This is the reason why many Chinese filmmakers stopped making kung fu flicks and started making cop flix with heavy stunt work. Jackie Chan wowed audiences everywhere and showed the world that you didn't need a huge Hollywood budget to make an engaging action movie. The stunts in the film made your jaw drop, the fight scenes were totally different from what you'd expect from a Chinese film, and the film entertained the hell out of people. Jackie is the reason why people had to change their ways of filmmaking if they wanted to keep up. The kung fu, hand-to-hand combat got played out and Chan revolutionized filmmaking with his originality and new concepts. I believe Jackie Chan was the reason why Chinese filmmakers abandoned kung fu action and went for a more raw and real style of action. This film started it all, and the films that came afterwards had to top the previous. A classic, and even after multiple viewings you'll see why the man is a legend in his own right.

Awesome flick! The stunts have to be seen to be believed--great humor as well. I was honestly blown away by this movie.

Terrific death-defying stunts and a few vicious fights featuring glass destruction with the human body. A very enjoyable movie with minimal gags (which was appreciated) and a few slow spots. I can still watch this movie again and again and never get tired of it.

Well, what can you say? This is my all time favorite Jackie movie. And to me, the perfect combination of comedy, crazy stunts, high energy action and awesome fights.

The JC stunt team really earned their pay on this one. And the stunts have been copied in several other movies. But they ain't got nothing on the original. The level of innovation and intensity that Jackie put into this movie is astounding. And I never get tired of watching stuff like the shantytown showdown, the bus chase, the mall fight and so on.

This was the movie that made me a Chan fan. And I still love it as much today, as I did as a kid way back in the 80's.

A full five stars.

Die-Hard stunts and good fights like only Jackie can deliver. I like Jackie but sometimes the humour is so annoying. Example, the situation with Maggie Cheung in the film. Anyway, for a low the price it's worth buying. For a high price, not sure.

Like most others that have rated this movie, I agree wholeheartedly that the final scene could be one of the most exciting and dangerous on film. I'm sure all actors involved had to take time off to recover! I thought the middle of this film was a little slow though. IMHO the less clowning in Jackie's movies the better and this one has minimal clowning. I highly recommend this movie, but lack of action in the middle prevents this from being 5 stars.

What can be said about "Police Story" that hasn't been said already? This film is just that damn good. Plot, script, acting, comedy, flow of film, action and of course the stunts are all incredible. The lengthy beginning and end action sequences are phenominal and the middle ones are very good too.

The fact Jackie Chan used his own money, house, car, health insurance even adds to how great this is in his already impressive legacy.

My favorite Jackie Chan film hands down!

The first 20 minutes alone are worth the price of the DVD. Then it just keeps getting better. One of Jackie Chan's very best, this movie has lots of genuinely funny situations and incredible action/stunt work.

Great film, an action classic, and in my opinion the best Hong Kong action film of the 80’s. Good fighting and awesome stunt work by Jackie Chan and his stunt team.

After the failed PROTECTOR film, Jackie did it right this time. All action, especially the finale. Get your remote ready for slow motion because you will want to see this many times.

If you are new to HK film, this is the place to start. Great action and a good story. Stay away from the dubbed versions such as POLICE FORCE. You can watch this many times, especially the finale.

[Police Story 1-3] represent some of the more serious works by Jackie Chan, and all are filled not only with exciting fights but plenty of incredible stunts, such as when he jumps onto a moving bus in Police Story, or the fight on top of a train in Police Story 3.

I tend to prefer Jackie's older work such as Drunken Master, where he uses more traditional martial arts with fancy names for every move. None the less, I still enjoyed the virtually non-stop action.

I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good action flick. The story was ok, a little too dramatic at times, but the fight scenes and the stunts make up for that. Somebody get Jackie Chan a Tissue, I give the film a B+.

This is my personal favorite JC film. It's got it all. Big fights, big stunts, and the best collection of outtakes. I don't believe any of JC's other movies have ever topped this one. It's simply un-toppable!

A classic, any way you look at it. The film is one of the best action films of all time, one that should appear on the top 100 films of time. It won't, because this was jackie saying to western films makers 'i am the best and your crap'. Needless to say Western film makers didn't like that and have ignored the film and have called jackie chan a CULT hero. Think I'm wrong, watch the film and see for yourself.

You didn't watch it? SHAME ON YOU!!!! This film is probably Jackie's best film yet! It has everything: a story, stunts, and action. What more do you want?! It is so good that even Jackie said "I am amazed when I watch this film again; the stunts and the action choreography really set an entirely new level for me!" Don't bother renting it, just buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jackie Chan as policeman Ka-Kui. First in a series of (at least) 3, with Maggie Cheung as his hapless girlfriend. Unbelievable stunts and very funny comic elements. More breaking glass than you'll ever see elsewhere.

(9) An excellent movie that features some truly amazing stunts. The one with the bus stopping suddenly went horribly wrong. The two guys who went through the windscreen were supposed to land on specially padded cars in front, however the bus stopped short and they landed smack bang on the road, OUCH

(***) A tough Hong Kong cop is given an assignment of protecting a key witness in a drugs trial, in this simple-minded but enjoyable mixture of martial arts, comedy and action genres. Chan does his own stunts most of which are incredible. Switch the brain off and enjoy this one.

First in the popular series, features some amazing stunts. Very good entertainment; a good introduction to Hong Kong cinema. Most English dubbed versions are shorter, because much of the comedy has been cut out.
