This is a really good ghost/fantasy/tragedy film.
A young scholar seeking solitude takes refuge in an old house that is haunted by a beautiful ghost, played by a young and beautiful Brigitte Lin. I didn't even recognize her, as I was used to seeing her play the more manly women roles she became famous for. She was a knockout. As a reluctant ghost under the control of a demon, she has lured many men to their deaths but falls in love with the scholar.
The cheesy dragon special effects at the end are the only weak point, and the scenes are very quick. A great, unjustly neglected film, well acted and very, very touching. Two thirds of the way through the film, you will think the title should have been "The Ghost in the Well" as I did, but the title is correct. |
