URGENT NOTE: This is basically a re-packaging of the HK documentary, "This Is Kung Fu". It has some extra Jet Li footage tacked on the beginning in place of some location/scenery footage from the original, but otherwise it appears to be the same. The opening sequence (the tacked-on Jet Li footage) is in 2.35:1 widescreen, the rest is full screen (with excessive pan and scan). This version has English dubbing and no subtitles, which we feel is an improvement over the laughable, out of synch, and hard-to-read subtitles of the HK version.
This documentary features countless martial exhibitions that are simply amazing. A teriffic overview of many different hand-to-hand and weapons styles throughout China's history through the present.
"This is Kung Fu" is one of the best documentaries about Wushu (Chinese martial arts). It features dozens of demonstrations of modern and traditional Wushu. Many empty hand styles (Chang Quan, Nan Quan, Tanglang Quan, Ditang Quan, Yingzhao Quan, etc.) and lots of weapons. Some of the performers are Li Lianjie (Jet Li), Hao Zhihua, Zhao Changjun, Yu Shaowen, Li Xia and many others. There are also some old masters, one of them is performing Yia Quan (Duck Boxing)! The documentary also features some very nice locations in China and an excellent soundtrack with traditional Chinese music. HKFlix.com Recommended!
