Yamakasi All Content Used With Permission. ![]() I like Luc Besson movies. I thought "District B-13" was amazing, and "Leon" is one of my favorite films. But in "Yamakasi" there are a lot of things wrong, mostly dealing with the story. If you're gonna' showcase a movie about Parkour, why are you going to make it a sappy Robin Hood kind of story? I want to see people jumping off buildings and landing on other buildings, or even an amazing rooftop chase across the Paris skyline. Not in this movie. You get a sick kid and a group of suckers that want to save the kid, because they blame themselves for his accident. I just didn't buy that. It did have some nice stunts, but not enough. ![]() A fun little film. I give it three and a half stars because it has excellent production values, a fantastic soundtack, a surprisingly decent story, great action, and good acting. The basic story: a group of agile young men with almost supernatural athletic abilities--The Yamakasi-- is indirectly responsible for the near death of a young boy. This child and his friend were trying to imitate the Yamakasi who are known for scaling buildings in their spare time. The boy needs a heart transplant, but his family can't afford it. The Yamakasi, feeling responsible for the accident decide to steal from the rich to help the boy. This is a lighthearted movie that entertains throughout. Recommended, especially if you liked Besson's other films such as Taxi and Wasabi. -The Waterboy (see my profile)
![]() By the way, they are the same guys who acted as the ninjas in TAXI 2. I found the show touching, especially the part whereby they saved Aila's mother. A superb show. Everyone should watch it, unless you might be as ignorant as some people. ![]() Is it just me or does this movie feel like it's trying to be one of those 80s films like "Breakin'" where a whole group of young creative social misfits have to "band together" to fight "the man" (who is invariably plotting to build a mall or something on their dance turf or community center)? Thin characters, lame plot, and not much action either... Even those "ninja" guys from "Taxi 2" moved better than the Yamakasi, which is unfortunate since the physical antics of the Yamakasi are what are supposed to drive this film. I guess it had its moments, but I'd rather watch Turbo and Ozone over these guys any day. -Anonymous
