A film about lies, deceit, betrayal, brotherly love, and all the shit you expect from a Chang Cheh piece.

Indeed one of the best Venoms films ever for the reasons that this film excels in conception, characterization, and story, with excellent intricate kung fu weapons action. This is why the Venoms films are the best, because they are imaginary and don't have the usual garbage in kung fu films--lion dances, yeeesh!

The best thing about "Flag Of Iron" is the characterization. I loved the 10 assassins in the film, from the guy who shoots abacus beads and utilizes the remains as a deformed nunchaku, to the fat butcher, along with the four killers who use metal connectors and mini scythes. The best was the Eagle Clan. They are like kung fu Indians with feathers in their heads wearing leopard attire.

The kung fu action of course is phenomenal--as I said, utilizing intricate weapons, but the main theme is the flag spears. This stuff has been done before this film but I think this film pulled it off the best.

Some people may find the pacing of the film a bit slow and perhaps feel that this film doesn't have enough action to make up for lost time, but it depends on your attention span. But then again who cares about you? :)

Along with excellent cinematography and blah blah blah, "Flag Of Iron" ranks at #5 for best Venoms film ever for me. Highly recommended unless you are devoid of good taste in film. Tee hee.

If you liked "Masked Avengers", you will probably like this. You don't typically see flagwork being done as a legit weapon in most kung fu movies, but this one sure pulls it off (also, check out "Life Gamble") without being corny.

The basic premise is that the leader of a clan is abruptly killed in a rival clan dispute. To take the heat off his clan, Kwok Choi takes the rap and goes into exile. In the end, he finds out who the killer of his master is and how it has drastically changed his clan.

Good balance of drama and action for Venoms fans.

Fun and thrilling Venoms kill 'em all. I liked the various assassins whom occupy the middle of the movie. They were an excellent, varied lot and all their fights were good. Excellent entry into the Venoms library and a must-have for Shaw Brothers fans.

By-the-numbers Venoms film. Betrayal, search for who's really bad and who's good, some teams and loyalty through death displays, long rambling plot.

Pro: As usual with Venoms, there are some great fatalities.

Con: Choreography in many of the scenes is unexciting. Also, multiple use of Chang Cheh's most annoying convention (to me): the creation of a new weapon with a trick mechanism that is actually really stupid.

Verdict: If you're a big Venoms fan you won't be disappointed. If you just want a good old school flick, there are better.

Another excellent Venoms movie. Lu Feng is the deceitful madman and he kicks some serious ass at the end! The movie is a bit slow to start but picks up well after. Nice authentic Chinese choreography with the use of the flags and spears. Very colorful and well choreographed. Definitely a must-see.

I thought this was a pretty good Venoms movie with Kuo Chui and Lu feng taking the lead roles. Lu Feng is great as a villain taking unifying two gangs and trying to get rid of Kuo Chui, who is a worthy member of one of the gangs. Look for the Baby Venoms as the Ten Killers hired by Lu Feng to kill kuo Chui! Some fans think this one was just okay, but it was one of my favorites!

Not one of the best, but a furious climax makes up for the slow-moving plot.

The finale pits the treacherous Lu Feng, the eldest master of the iron flag clan, against Kwo Chue, the second master, Chiang Sen, the third master, and Lung Thien Siang, the notorious silver spear assassin.

The story has its twists and the costumes, as well as the weapons, are typical of a Chang Cheh's Venoms movie--macho, gaudy costumes and unique, lethal weapons, the spear in various sizes.

The death scenes, as in most Chang Cheh films, are gory. Watch how one of the protagonists meets his death in the final fight !

Not the best Venoms movie, but still worth seeing. The action scenes are very good, but the constant dialogue slows the movie down. Venoms fans will see a lot of familiar faces.

This Venoms film only features three of the Venoms (Kuo Chi, Lu Feng and Chiang Sheng). Because of this, the Baby Venoms get more of the limelight, which in my opinion really works for the film. The story is quite complex as it involves two rival gangs: one is destroyed and the boss mudered, one of the members (Kuo Chui) takes the blame; when he finds out that Lu Feng's charecter is using the money for gambling and prostitution, he goes back for revenge or something like that. Helping Kuo Chui's character is fellow gangmember Chiang Sheng and the mysterious white spearman (played by Lung Tien Tsang, who would go on to feature in a few Venom films--his best film outside the Venoms is probably "World Of Drunken Master", where he fights Lee I Min or the obscure "Dragon On Shaolin Tower"). Lu Feng is great as the evil boss, also Wang Li and Chui Tai Ping get bigger roleas and both have a great fight against each other. Venoms superkicker Tam Jun Tao replaces Sun Chien and is good and shows off great kicks. I don't think the film would really work with Lo Meng and Sun Chien as it is mainly weapons-based fights. Kuo Chi, my favorite Venom, gets the most limelight and deserves it--he is the ultimate good guy: he's a superb martial artist and a great acrobat. Chiang Sheng gets to show off a bit but is really a sidekick to Kuo Chui. Special mention goes to Sai Yuk and Chi Tai, who play good guys, and two Baby Venoms that never really get mentioned but do a great job. Also features the famous fight scne where Kuo Chui takes on ten killers in a long running of fights, the best against Baby Venom Lau Fong Sai. It's not the best Venoms film and can be a bit slow in places but is definitley worth buying for kung fu fans as the Venoms were arguably the most gifted set of actors in kung fu film history.

One of my top 5 favorite Venoms films. Sufficient mystery story (kind of) with great characters, costumes, and bad-ass martial arts fighting.

Another amazing Chang Cheh film starring three of the Five Deadly Venoms and a great cast of supporting actors. Intrigue, murder, iron flag spears, and excellent choreography made this very enjoyable for me. Although slow at times with exhaustive dialogue, the overall effect is excting and compelling. A film for any gongfu enthusiasts, especially for fans of Chang Cheh and Venoms collabos.

Another great Venoms film, although Sun Chien and Lo Meng are not present. Lu Feng shines once again as a manipulative villian, while Kuo Choi and Chiang Sheng play the heroes who are caught in the middle of a treacherous plot where Lu Feng assumes control of their clan after their master dies. Lung Tien-hsiang also provides a key supporting role as an assasin who we dont know is really a good guy or bad. As always, the Venoms choreography is top notch and the use of a "Iron Flag" is pretty cool and not typically used in most kung fu movies. If you liked the trident fighting in Masked Avengers, you will definently like this movie. Venoms fans, add this to your collection!

For many years, I thought of Venoms films as showcases for Kuo Chui's skill and charisma. To a large degree, this is still true; but after repeated viewings of them all--most particularly "The Flag If Iron", I think Lu Feng is absolutely essential. His acrobatics rival Chiang Sheng's, his acting rivals Kuo Chui's, and his weapons skills exceed any other Venom's. Lu Feng's patented role, the former friend turned evil by ambition, is central to this very enjoyable film. See it.

"Flag Of Iron" is certainly a must-have old school Venoms classic. One of Chang Cheh's memorable films for its clever use of huge flags/banners as weapons. It's certainly one to get.

Another Shaw Bros. Venoms classic! Phillip Kwok is outstanding as usual and the fights come fast and furious. The beginning of the movie lags a bit and doesn't set up as much intrigue as I'm sure it was meant to, but the action sequences from the middle of the film to the end are an ample payoff.

The film has the same story as "Duel of the Iron Fists" with David Chiang and Ti Lung, although it is set in a different time period. Two rival gangs, one benevolent, the other malevolent are planning to make peace. However, the peaceful gathering is only a cover-up for a double cross. One gang plans to ambush the other at this meeting while the other group, knowing it's just a trap, hire an assassin to kill the leader of their rival gang. Both leaders are killed and the rightful heir to the benevolent gang (Philip Kwok) must take the blame for the incident and flee. While he's gone, the new leader (Lu Feng) turns bad and even sends men to kill Kwok. You can guess what happens next.

The story was poorly written but it does have some cool fights and lots of bloodshed but no LO MENG or SUN CHIEN and not enough Chiang Sheng who shines in the small parts he is in. 3 and half stars, stars. Try "Masked Avengers".

This was another awesome Venoms flick. From the opening reel to the astounding finale between Lu Feng, Philip Kwok and Chiang Cheng it was topnotch fighting and moviemaking at its very best.I liked the beautiful settings and costumes displayed throughout this flick. The story was predictable midway the movie, however, the acting was superb and kept you interested. This is another collector's item for Venom fans, and I urge the fans to cash in on these deals, I am certainly practising what I preach. I would love for another great Venoms movie "Masked Avengers" to be offered in anamorphic condition that would make me and other fans out there extremely happy.

Not a bad Chang Cheh film--some cool fights and sweet deaths, but it's bogged down by heavy and uninspiring dialogue. But still, you can't help but be impressed by the awesome costumes and sets!

Similar in many respects to Masked Avengers, the weapon of choice here is the spear and its variations, ie short spears, long spears, flag spears, etc. In Masked Avengers, the trident was the featured weapon. Also, as in Masked Avengers, this is a bloodier gorier Venom flick. Also, as in Masked Avengers, the plot is rather convoluted (does it matter?) and Lo Meng and Sun Chien are nowhere to be seen (though they are listed on the box). The fighting, under Chang Cheh's masterful direction and camera work, is mind boggling and nearly every conceivable "spear move" is explored. Hand to hand fighting is sparse. I'm not a big-time spear fan, therefore I was not thrilled enough to give this a 5, but the movie nonetheless is a solid entry into your Venom collection.
