If you are a fan of Chang Cheh's Shaolin cycle, then you will like this. You can see where Queertin Tarantino got his inspiration (but doesn't credit anybody) for Uma Thurman's character in "Kill Bill" from this movie.

I'm not gonna' get into the synopsis of this movie, as most people have covered it allready, but I do want to say Beardy did a convincing job of the iron skin technique as well as being stiff as a board in personality and demeanor. The guy looked menacing. Wang Lung Wei's technique was kind of comical in that people would punch his pooch, he would absorb the punch, and then bounce the punch back to the attacker where they fall six feet back and die from internal bleeding.

This movie was apparently the footprint for all future kf movies with the teacher/student dynamic. There are lots of drawn out training scenes (if that's your thing). It's worthy of a watch, but I can't see myself watching this repeatedly.

I don't know what all the hoopla was all about with this film. The sound effects were trash, the acting was good, the action was bad. I believe a lot of these reviews had to be about 20 years old because the level of the kung fu in this movie is by far sub-par.

Fu Sheng and Chi Kuan Chun are a great complement to one another. The comedic Fu Sheng, the stoic Kuan Chun are a solid team. Although a long movie, I didn't mind a bit. The action was well paced, and the training sequences were a great touch.

A classic for its time starring my favorite actor, Alexander Fu Sheng, and Shaw favorite Chi Kuan Chun. Together these two have made some excellent movies! This film is no exception. We have great training sequences, beautiful scenery, and great fighting. We also have Wang Lung Wei and Leung Kar Yan as two invincible Manchu fighters. Bruce Tong and Gordon Liu also appear as top Shaolin fighters helping to overthrow the Manchus. Some people may not care for this movie, but if you're a fan of Fu Sheng and Chi Kuan Chun, this movie is for you!

One of the early Shaw Bros. films that depicted the training of the "animal" styles. I thought this was the film where they trained within a Shaolin Temple, which it wasn't. Still I enjoyed the many fight sequences.

Not bad, but not really good either. I just couldn't get into this one. I felt Gordon Liu was wasted and Fu Sheng's performance was just okay. A lot of time between fights [was spent with] Fu Sheng flirting with a girl. Only recommended if you're a Fu Sheng fan or you're topping off your Gordon Liu collection.

If you like grueling training sequences, then look no further. Fu Sheng really knows how to put on a show when it comes to his training, and the "shapes" style of fighting was really groundbreaking for 1974.

Kung fu buffs will love this film (I know I did), especially the training sequences of Fu Sheng, with his trademark tiger and crane style. He really is adept with it. It is good to see Yuen Shao Tien (Jackie Chan's teacher in "Drunken Master" and "Snake In The Eagle's Shadow" films) in his youth as Fu Sheng's tiger-crane sifu.

A fun movie to lose yourself into with heroism, loyalty and idealism thrown in for good measure.

Good storyline (old school). Wang Lung Wei (my favorite villain) appears for the first time in this movie. Leung Kar Yan is young and also plays a bad guy. However, there is not enough fight scenes to my taste and most of them a bit too slow. 1-2-3 type of movements. The training scenes are boring. I was expecting much more with such a cast (Wang Lung Wei, Leung Kar Yan, Chi Kuan Chun, Gordon Liu, Alex Fu Sheng, Yuen Siu Tien). That's a superstars cast! It's worth to watch once when you like these actors (and who doesn't?). Secondary actors look like the same crew of HEROES TWO (which I liked way much better).

I was a bit tentative when I saw the year of production, as I like fast fighting in my movies. I must confess I was glad to have bought this movie as it featured all the right ingredients, nice storyline, nice fighting scenes, beautiful choreography nothing superficial and my favourite spectacular scenery. I don't know why but I love the music that was played at the river scene, it just sounded unique and original. A very good movie.

I absolutely love this film. When IVL finally released it i couldn't wait for my copy.

Shaolin Martial Arts is a Chang Cheh classic which not only bridges the cross over from one stable of action stars, but introduces new stars, who will go on to make kung fu in the 70's and 80's the stuff of legend.

The cast reads like a roster of who's who: Fu Sheng, Chi Kuan Chun, Wang Lung Wei, Gordon Lui, Tino Wong, Lui Kar Yung, and the introduction of my personal favorite, Liang Jia Ren, in his debut.

This is another tale of Shaolin kung fu experts under attack by the Manchu warlords and the film basically sets up it's forthcoming action by having the schools perform at a ritual with Manchus belittling Shaolin only as an excuse to attack them.

When they enlist the assistance of Wang Lung Wei and Liang Jia Ren as "invincible armour" fighters, the Shaolin brothers don't stand a chance. Chi and Fu Sheng are sent to learn Hung fist and Tiger Crane in seclusion, bringing about some of the best training sequences, pre Jackie Chan in Snake in Eagles Shadow, and Drunken Master. Their training takes about a third of the film, and when they finally do get down to the finale, ooh boy!!!

Chang Cheh knew exactly how to convey the spirit of the fighters, and the seriousness about their art. Drama depicted when Kuan Chun finally masters his skill leaves the audience more ready for him to take revenge than his own character!

This is one great Kung Fu film, from an era still being shaped by what was to come. Enjoy it for the first time, and you may well be hooked on Chang's co-horts!!!

Four and one half!!!
