Liu Chia-Liang/Lau Kar-Leung depicts the genesis of Hung Gar, using the magnificent Chen Kuan Tai and the amusing Wang Yu. It's a bit of a stretch to believe Wang Yu's character could defeat Lo Lieh's when Chen Kuan Tai's can't--it's a matter of Hung Gar!

I love it! Excellent action and storyline. Pai Mei is one of my favorite Shaw Bros. villains.

Great movie by Shaw Brothers, once again. Another tale of revenge, and some very funny parts, mixed with lots of kung fu action. This is a classic movie for collectors of kung fu flix.

This movie probably goes #2 on my top-ten favorite kung fu movies. Lo Lieh playing Pai Mei is my favorite character. I mean, I know you're supposed to cheer for the good guys, but Pai Mei was the shit. I wouldn't even give it a 5 [stars], this movie is a 20.

This is a good picture, but not the best. The middle of the film does seem to slow down and we get forceful humor along the way, but the action sequences are really the showcase in this film, and I enjoyed my time watching the action. Like I said the replay value is in the action.

Started out fantastic but dragged a bit in the middle, followed by corny humor. But the action was really good, for what its worth.

The movie is good but not great. I love the Chen Kuan Tai training sequences and of course the two battles with Lo Leih. My feeling is "Fist Of The White Lotus" does a much better job on the delivery.

NIt is hard to know where to begin when disagreeing with your lenghty review. But this movie is boring as can be, and the fights are subpar.MS10197

I know a whole lot of people will disagree, but this film is vastly overrated, to say the least. If you are truly interested in this story, purchase the Lo Lieh-directed "Clan of the White Lotus" instead; that particular film is vastly superior in every way.

Aside from the absolutely remarkable fight scene involving Gordon Liu near the very beginning of "Executioners from Shaolin", there is little else to recommend in this boring film. Even its greatest asset, Lo Lieh, is given scant few minutes of screen time.

The flaws in this film are numerous. The film is so dominated by scenes of Chen Kuan-Tai's extremely mundane domestic life it almost makes the revenge scenario against Pei Mei feel like an afterthought. What little fight action that does occur is slow and uninspired. Moreover, Chen Kuan-tai is never even remotely Lo Lieh's match, even after 17 years of training. The sheer one-sidedness of the fights makes them more tedious than exciting; I won't even go into the absurdity of Pei Mei's kung fu style. And to make matters worse, the training sequences that occur prior to the Hong Xiguan-Pei Mei showdowns are boring, consisting mostly of Chen Kuan-tai banging away on an immobile bronze dummy, when he isn't busy ripping the bark off trees.

But far and away the biggest flaw of the whole movie is the character of Hong Wending, played by the perpetually annoying Young Wang Yu. Regardless of the film, whenever Liu Chia-liang used Young Wang Yu as his comedy relief, it always produced the same annoying-as-hell slapstick result, and this film is no exception. The fact he is portrayed as an exremely effiminate, almost girlish, buffoon with a pronounced lack of kung fu skill does not help matters. That he is able to beat Lo Lieh at the end, after his father had failed twice at the same task even after two decades of training, is an insult to the intelligence of the viewer. This movie is utterly disappointing and completely forgettable.

I dislike this movie. Chen Kwan Tai, Chen Kang Yeh and in some scenes even Lily Li are somehow annoying in this one. Fights seem to be slow and even the training with the iron man is boring. I have watched it several times to find something likeable but not very succesfully. "Challenge Of The Masters" is a much better film.

YI agree that something is missing from this film, and Wong Yue with an off shoot Princess Leia hair style does not help. Challenge Of The Masters is the superior of the two!Sgt. T
YI have to agree. This film is grossly overrated. The "remake", Clan of the White Lotus, starring Gordon Liu, is vastly superior.MS10197

Second installment of Bi Mae. A true classic. Find the weak point if you can. Tiger style to go with it but in the end he gets cheated by Wong Yu. A must-have.

Bad-ass movie that is totally ridiculous and over the top. I can't really say there is anything that I dislike about this movie. It's so cheesy, but that's what makes it so amazing. It's the quintessential kung fu epic that confuses Chinese history with fantastic absurdities--that and all those awesome hard zooms.

I must say I really liked this movie! The fights are great. (The first fight is a breathtaking fight with Gordon Liu - a shame that he dies here and doesn't show more of his skills!). The story is OK, too. Some characters were a little annoying and the end is a little weak. But it's a real good movie overall.

"This ranks as one of the best from Shaw brothers" It says this on the back of the DVD, and I totally agree. If you liked "The Men From The Monastery", you'll love this. Hung Hsi Kuan TIGER STYLE!

Executioners From Shaolin, Executioners Of Death, Shaolin Executioners...no matter what name you hang on the great Shaw Bros. movie, it's simply one of the greatest output from great director, the late great Liu Chia Liang ("Master Killer" Gordon Liu Chia Hui's older brother), with the most spectacular, absolutely great display/execution of the Shaolin tiger's claw on film to date. Rounding out a who's who of an all star-cast are Lily Li and Wang Yue.

Not a big favorite of mine, but nonetheless a decent Shaw flick with some great fights and cool training sequences.

I felt it dragged a bit in the early part, with the opera boat and wedding stuff. But picks up again when Chen Kuan Tai starts training for his revenge on master whitebrow. And speaking of... the evil Pai Mei is probably Lo Lieh's best role ever, I always liked him better as a bad guy. And one of the most memorable villains in kung fu cinema.

So, apart from the slow spots and the fact that Wang Yu looks like a girl due to some questionable hair and wardrobe choices, this movie is pretty cool. I do however prefer FIST OF THE WHITE LOTUS over this one.

This is the one movie that I always remember from my childhood of watching kung-fu marathons. If you are looking for the best example of a student seeks revenge flic, then this is one one. But the fight scenes and story rises a step above that clique`. Really, get this one if you want to enjoy a great kung-fu story.

A great movie! This movie got me hooked on Chen Kuan Tai and Pei Mei. The fighting scenes are realistic and well choreographed. The viewer really gets an opportunity to root for the good guy then root for his son. A very satidfying movie for great martial arts as well as a plot that keeps you interested. Lo Lieh is awesome as the main villian!!!

NOTE: This review refers to the DVD by Ground Zero and we have not verified any of the allegations contained in it.

I have only seen the old VHS version of this movie. However, the reason that i've decided to post a review is because of the reviews i've read, each one states that the final scene ends abruptly. Unless i'm mistaken, the DVD doesn't show what happens to Bai Mei. Please e-mail me if i'm not correct! What's strange to me about that, from what i remember of the the original movie, is that the final scene does conclude:

The young man finds Bai Mei's weak spot on top of his head! Using the crane's stregth in the legs, the young man latches onto Bai Mei's shoulders and squeezes him so that he does not fall (the way he used to when he was a kid!) Finally, he uses both beak ha
