Not the most engrossing storyline, but the martial arts choreography is a joy to behold.

Good action scenes, but some offbeat comedy slows the pacing quite a bit.

Another great 90's martial arts flick from the legendary Yuen Wo Ping. Michelle Yeoh is excellent and charming as Wing Chun, but Donnie Yen plays a very unusual role compared to his other films. For one, he's more clumsy and doesn't get to show any of his stuff at all in this film, except for one jump kick maybe. Our lead villain, Norman Tsui, is awesome as ever and does a great job as the intimidating bad ass. The action scenes are classic and will recieve multiple viewings. A great film overall and worth owning.

The story is kind of bad but the action is amazing! I've never seen a fight centered around a block of tofu! Highly recommended.

It is a great, funny movie with nice choreography. Yes there's not much of any real wing chun but it doesn't matter that much because it's ENTERTAINMENT--so the creators need to show some creativity, and in this case they really did. If you want to see reality then buy some instructional DVDs. But this is a great kung fu film.

"Wing Chun" is another example of Yuen Wo Ping's solid fight choreography and over-the-top humor. People who are expecting a serious film will be disappointed. But fans who enjoyed films like "Iron Monkey", and "Tai Chi II" will be thrilled with the amazing fight sequences and performances from HK legends Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen. Two thumbs up.

Great martial arts movie. I love Michelle Yeoh and especially Donnie Yen. Some very funny parts, too. A definite for 90s martial arts fans.

Pretty good movie with lots of action, but it got pretty slow and boring at points.

Yuen Wo Ping is everywhere! The prolific Ping has been involved in past greats like "Wing Chun" here and "Fist Of Legend", present blockbusters like "The Matrix" films and future films like "Kill Bill" by that Tarantino character. Good for him and definitely good for Ping pals (Sorry! I will henceforth abstain from alliteration! Sorry!) like myself.

At the outset, I must confess a slight distaste for the more wacky wirework (Sorry! This time I promise!) found in Mr. Ping's fight scenes. You know the stuff like when in "Crouching Tiger" a couple of the main cast were attempting to accost one another from their respective perches atop flimsy tree branches. No I do like the genius of the fight scenes that remain grounded. This movie has both types. It has more of the latter than the former.

This movie is of course kung fu comedy. And this is really where it separates itself from the rest of not only the kung fu genre but also the Yuen Wo Ping canon. The wonderfully strange characters are the main cause of this. One of my faves is the lecherous Scholar Wong. First of all, just what is this individual a scholar of? If his actions can stand as an indication, then I can safely conjecture that he has a bachelor's of science in ogling and a doctorate in pervert. I have to wonder at the extent of the emotional scars inflicted on the females who have had to endure his numerous advances! Also, where does he get his money? I am not aware of the current conversion rate from taels to dollars, but he is called upon at different stages of the film to divulge amounts that are given a context in which you can draw that this is no small amount! Does he get paid to harass members of the opposite sex? Despite these certainly (insert sarcasm) important queries, he is a funny character.

Basically you've got good martial arts action and silly hijinx to accompany it. You can't go wrong! Unless you don't like good martial arts action and silly hijinx. I am ashamed for you.

Sorry but I have had enough of wire fu. Where the heck has kung fu gone? Does anyone do wing chun? I don't remember there being anything in critea that taught you how to fly!!!!!!

Does anyone know what kung fu movies were like before Bruce Lee? Exactly the way they are now. It upsets me to think that I might never see films like "The Victim", "Odd Couple", "Project A", "Police Story", "Wheels On Meals". NO MORE WIRE FU.

This film is, in one word, excellent! It features a strong female character (Michelle Yeoh) in top form a-la "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" style, and has some great comedic performances. Michelle plays the role of the historic Chinese folk hero Yim Wing Chun, who was ostracized from the public to a certain extent for being a female training in the male-dominated world of Kung Fu and the fighting arts, but rises in adversity to save her friends and her village. A definite must-see for any martial arts fan.

Overall, film fighting choreography of its time, I rate this a 4/5! But for fans who like to watch Donnie Yen, then this is perhaps one of his worst films made, simply because he plays a co-star and is not the main star. To rate Donnie Yen in this movie would be 1/5, because his character plays a fool. I suppose he just wanted some extra cash so that he could produce his own future films. As for Michelle Yeoh, I would say she looked good and fought very well, especially with the complex wire fu techniques. WIRE FU in this film is TOP CLASS and used a lot! So wire fu fans should check this out as well as Michelle Yeoh fans and martial art movie fans!
