This confusing flick feels like part 2 of a 3-part story. The first 15 minutes is bogged down in TONS of backstory and exposition (enough that it could've been its own film), and then it ends abruptly with the main plot completely unresolved. Some explosive wire fu action, but the story is a headscratcher.

This is one of the greatest Wuxia movie EVER. Every movement of every character is done to perfection. The plot is not understandable if you don't know the story already, but since every single person in chinese speaking world knows this story, the plot didn't need to well explained. The camera/pose combination was just amazing, especially in showing off the villains. The rock monster is just plain cool and definly unique. The jinxes have a comic book style posing near the end of the movie when they are talking to zhang sanfeng; when one of them bent forward to talk the other was bend backwards, then they'd reverse. The pacing of the movie is incredibly fast, with the pace of the action just makes the movie plain exhilerating. To enjoy this movie, you must forget about plot, forget about theme, and think only about visual and motion art and think about what the film medium can do in terms of making impossible events come alive. This is one of the most underated movies because everyones brought up to the Hollywood tradition of movies.. watch it for what it is.

This movie is a revenge flick plus a whole lot more. Too much to get into, but you can get it after a few viewings. This movie is a cool blend of kung fu, magic, and wire movement. There's a lot of flying and magic, which is pulled off excellently old school style. Even the real hand to hand combat is some of the tightest of choreography and includes a lot of cool acrobat-ism (flips and stuff)... This is a must have for the Jet Li fans.

This movie shows off Jet Li's fighting abilities, with Sammo Hung fight chorography and some early Hong Kong special effects, which is definitely a good mix. The storyline is kind of complicated, and some of the events are kind of "out there"; but it is a movie telling the great story of a man who--because of society--loses everything, then is given to chance to make a difference.

Jet Li's parents die in front of him and he vows revenge to get them, but he can't because he can't fight due to something called "jinx palm". But he cures that later on and becomes a hero. There's a lot of wires and special effect in this movie, but I like Jet Li to much and there are a lot of good hand-hand martial arts scenes, so this was a pretty good movie.

When sickly Chang Mo Kei (Jet Li) is nearly killed by his brother, a flesh-eating kung fu master that rolls around like that huge boulder in Raiders of the Lost Ark not only cures the young man of an illness inflicted by the Solar Stance, but imparts powers that make him invincible. Chang retreats to a cave with comely Chingmy Yau, and love blossoms. In the meantime, armies from all of the kung fu sects nearly fall prey to a government plot to destroy the influence of the martial arts schools. The movie ends abruptly, which means that part two should be on the way. Epic battle scenes, scads of fun.

Based on a popular martial pugilist novel by Jin Yong, there must have been half a dozen TV series and movies based on it. Adam Cheng, the actor who portrayed Fong Sai Yuk's master (leader of Red Flower Clan), starred in the first version of the TV series about a decade ago. The basic plot starts with Jet Li's parents dying before his eyes and he vows revenge. Something about a magical sword. Something about a conspiracy of one "cult" getting the others to fight among themselves to total decimation so the first can take over. Jet Li is physically incapable of fighting, due to receiving the Jinx's Hand as a child, but he is cured and learns the Great Solar Stance with which he becomes a hero! Then he learns Shaolin kung fu and finally taichi (from the master who raised him, Zhang Sanfeng--get the joke?) in his efforts to unite the other "cults" against the common enemy.
