Never one to miss an opportunity for a sequel Wong Jing delivers the next installment in the series that began with Naked Killer. This may not be original but at least you know you're not going to get bored.

The story, such as it is, involves three serial rapists who have joined together (hence the title) with the intention of raping a novelist and her friends. To this end they move in next door and spy on her. Oh, and they have a dungeon in their basement where they keep their other victims. The novelist's boyfriend, meanwhile, is a cop investigating a number of rape cases (lucky coincidence) and he, of course, ends up coming to the rescue. This is definitely one of those films where it is best not to examine the plot too closely and just suspend your belief in reality.

The look of the film is farely glossy especially during the opening credits where there is a montage of silhouettes of couples making love in soft focus. There's also a few seconds of Chingamy Yau cavorting about but she doesn't appear again during the movie. These first few minutes provide the only erotica seen in the film as the sex scenes that follow are definitely not erotic but purely exploitative (but this is a Wong Jing film). The violence of these later scenes is quite tasteless but surprisingly the film only has a category IIB rating or maybe I was watching a censored version (Vcd version from Universal).

Another thing about Wong Jing is that he's never been adverse to nicking other peoples' ideas or 'paying homage to other film makers' and there is a standout (like a sore thumb) scene in this movie that borrows heavily from 'Scream'. Complete with scary white mask and big knife the protagonist spends about ten minutes stalking the heroine around her luxury house in the dark. It's not badly done but I wouldn't go as far as to say I was on the edge of my seat.

There's also a big nod to 'Silence of the Lambs' in the form of Anthony Wong as former sex offender who the police consult to obtain a profile of the rapists. Anthony stands out (as always) in his understated role, while the performances of the other actors appear average in comparison. There's a fair amount of overacting on the part of the villains and this just makes the whole thing seem even less believable.

As I mentioned before the plot falls apart if you inspect it too closely (or at all). I'm not saying it never happens but the way in which the partnership of the rapists is portrayed in the film just seemed totally unconvincing. Also the fact that two of the rapists were aided in their escape from prison by the third is just glossed over with no real explanation of how it all came about.

To summarise then: another example of Wong Jing exploitation. Don't expect anything else.
