I can see why this is a fan favorite, despite the somewhat lackluster fight choreography: colorful villains and heroes and a simple storyline that moves along at brisk pace to a satisfying conclusion. My fourth favorite Venoms film after "5 Deadly...", "Crippled Avengers", and "Invincible Shaolin". Even if "Killer Army" has much better choreography, I still like this movie better as a whole.

Not quite as good as the usual "Venom" flicks, but not bad at all. If you're a Venoms fan then you need to add this to your collection.

One of my favorite Venoms movies. The plot is okay, but the fighting with a wide assortment of weapons is fantastic. Wei Pei does a very good job as the arrogant, overly cocky swordsman. May "Agent Hi To" live forever!

This is the second film I saw starring the Venoms and is probably my all-time favorite Venoms film. The choreography is not the greatest, but I loved the characters! Kuo Chui gives an outstanding performance as a drunken government agent! Lo Meng is excellent as the villain Golden Arm! Let's not forget Wei Pei's portrayal of an arrogant master swordsman, with whom honor means everything. This film is one of the few starring the original Venom cast, namely Wei Pei ("The Snake"), who also appears in my third favorite Venoms film, "Invincible Shaolin". This film does not have the best fight sequences in a Venoms film, but it is entertaining with a bizarre ending to top it off!

Based on the fight scenes, they had to have been smoking something when it was choreographed... just kidding, but it really was not on point like usual. If you haven't seen many of the other films you'd probably say the fights were great! Anyway, this movie did have some good moments... not much, although, still enough to get it.

I had always wanted to see this film. I love the Venoms, and with Kuo Chi being my favorite Venom as well I had to buy this! This is also the only Venoms movie where Lo Meng is a bad guy. Lo Meng is a bad ass as Golden Arm! All of the Venoms are here, even Wei Pak ("Last Hurrah For Chivalry"), who plays a real ass in this film. Sun Chien's in here as well and has an awesome kicking fight with Kuo Chi! Lu Feng is the coolest charecter and he is sick with his silver spear! Wang Lung Wei and Chiang Sheng have supporting roles but don't do great deals of action. This film is good, the plot is okay, but the twist at the end sucks and is confusing. Lots of blood and the action is usual Venoms greatness, and it's cool to see Lo Meng and Sun Chien getting the main end action for a change instead of Chiang Sheng and Lu Feng. I would say go buy this film, but there are better Venoms films.

What makes this Venom entry memorable? The storyline is downright simple, with a little twist at the end. The locations are uniformly dull, where all take place in the Shaw Brothers studios. The kung fu fights are quite well-choreographed.

So the best thing about THE KID WITH THE GOLDEN ARM is the characters, the good and the bad, which have their own unique skills. Combined with Chang Cheh's deft direction, a different plot and a talented kungfu actors, you get good entertainment, especially for the Venoms' fans.

The story involves a desperate delivery of gold caskets for the needy by the government through a place named the Death Valley. The place is so feared that the delivery, which has no other option but to pass it, has to be escorted by a group of skilled fighters.

The Deadly Valley, so it is named, is a no-man's land ruled by an infamous robber, highly skilled- the Golden Arm (Lo Meng) with his gang: the Silver Spear (Lu Feng), the Iron Robe (Wang Lung Wei), and the Brass Head (Yang Tsiung), who are all aiming at looting the gold delivery.

But, things do not come as easy as they think. The government officers has sent Chief Security Yang (Sun Chien)--together with a group of fighters--to prepare an unexpected welcome for the adversaries.

Again the fighters on Chief Yang's side, are as unique as the baddies: Constable Hai To, the drunkard (Kwo Chui), Swordsman Li, the arrogant (Wei Pai), Heroine Leng (dunno her name), Long Axe (played by a cameo; should have been played by Wang Li, though), and Short Axe (Chiang Sen).

There are one-to-one mortal combats that are, as usual, exciting to watch- the one between Silver Spear and Short Axe,another with the Iron Robe and Constable Hai To, then the climax between the Golden Arm and Constable Hai To.

A little twist at the end is the appearance of a mysterious character the Iron Feet, known to be one of the deadly duos of the Deadly Valley before the Golden Arm established his reign of terror. He, too, demands his share of the gold.

Who, then, will be the last man standing ?

"The Kid With The Golden Arm" was off the damn chain! Golden Arm, played by Lo Meng (who is also my favorite Venom star), was a cool character. I liked the way he fought. He made his enemies' weapons look like they were nothing when they bounced off his invincible arms. I'm glad I ordered this movie from this incredible website. (I wish I didn't previously buy a cheap bootlegged version of this movie from the gas station! Besides the video quality looking bad, some scenes were also cut short, especially the death scenes.) Anyways, I'm glad I got the HK version of this movie, and if you are a Venom or a Lo Meng fan, this movie is for you!!

Rates number 7 as one of my favorite Venoms films ever. The fights were a bit too choreographed, but overall the movie was a cult classic. I love this stuff.

For some bizarre reason, many of the actors were stiff throughout the film, rambling dialogue like emotionless string puppets even though in other films before and after they were full of life. However, putting aside that, this "Kid with the Golden Arm" is a Chang Cheh film with the Venoms. Though the fights do tend to look more choreographed than their other films, they are entertaining to watch. Like any of Chang Cheh's films, there are plenty of plot twists and surprises and of course many unusual ways the heroes and bad guys get killed off.

While this is not quite so good as the very best Venoms films ("Crippled Avengers", "Five Deadly Venoms", "The Flag of Iron"), it is a very worthwhile, enjoyable movie. It's nice to see Lo Meng featured as a super-fighter, as that role so often goes to Kuo Chui and Lu Feng, but he could have been in more of the film. This is definitely not Lu Feng's picture - except for one excellent sequence, his remarkable gifts are well hidden. I've liked Kuo Chui and Chiang Sheng better in other projects, but they do well here. Certain developments regarding Sun Chien seemed entirely arbitrary and unsupported by the previous storyline, but that's just the way he is so often treated, it seems.

This isn't a masterpiece, but it's among the best of the second tier of the Venoms filmography.

The plot is far more coherent in the uncut, non-English dubbed Hong Kong version than the edited dubs. I had found it difficult to enjoy my previous, Ground Zero, edition due to technical and linguistic failings.

Classic Shaw Golden Arms Wow. Silver Spear cunning loved those darts he uses on long axe and short axe. Agent Hi Tow or Kuo Cho the wine drinker I guess he had to cheat to win he had no other option. A true classic not in my top 10 but my top 20 no doubt.

I enjoyed this movie. Cool costumes and characters make this a classic Venoms film. Theres a little twist at the end (however, the explanation behind the "face" is a bit lame). Lu Feng has the best weapons in this movie, next to Chiang Sheng's Short Axes. Lo Meng, just like in 5 Element Ninjas, has no need for weapons but uses his arms instead. If you are a Venoms fan, go get this!

In my eyes this is a great film with a good story. The action is fantastic and bloody. Lots of people die a terrible death with poison needles, etc. Shaw Brothers at their best.

Simple story: a group of good guys escorting gold to a famine area through a very rough valley with known bandits.

This was my very first Venoms film, and I knew from the opening scene that things were going to be a bit different this time around. I had seen many kung fu films before this one and usually the bad guys didn't show themselves until the end...not these guys. There was no guesswork here, these bad guys were totally in your face. As a matter of fact the films starts with the baddies sending a little message to the escort service that will be escorting the gold through their territory...a message carved in the back of one of the escorts.

The good guys didn't really fit the mold either; how many good guys did you see with a side bet as to who could kill the most bad guys? Good or bad these boys enjoyed what they did.

This film had some really good fights; the showdown between Lu Feng and Chiang Shien, the completely over-matched Wei Pai who pushes his luck one time too many with Lo Meng, the showdown between Lo Meng and Kuo Chui and who could forget Kuo Chui and Sun Chien matching kicks...good stuff.

There really wasn't much story but this was a fun film. Lots of fights, lots of blood and lots of attitude. And ladies, the hunk factor is just through the roof in this one. From Lo Meng's gold chain that holds a piece of cloth to his back, to Lu Feng's peak-a-boo silver vest and see through silver genie pants, and let's not forget Sun Chien's black and silver chain outfit...and the forever handsome Wang Lung Wei.

The only gripe I have about this one is Helen Poon. Why oh why didn't they put a female in that role who could actually take on one of the Venoms? Ching Ching, Young Pan Pan, Hui Ying Hung or Lily Li just to name a few.

Movies branded with the name Chang Cheh and a cast formulated of the widely known and very popular Venoms are usually movies any martial arts fan would give up time and good money for.

Having enjoyed kung fu flicks for awhile now, I recently began picking up as many of the classics starring Lo Meng and the gang as I possibly could. Of course with praises sung from many a rooftop about the Venoms' releases, I opted for one in particular: "Kid With The Golden Arm".

The plot is a standard affair. An escort service of kung fu masters is hired to protect a large amount of gold being transported to a specific destination. Of course this ensures that a gang of bandits--lead by Golden Arm (Lo Meng) and consisting of Silver Spear (Lu Feng), Iron Robe and Brass Head--are also out to get the gold.

What I immediately gathered from watching "Kid With The Golden Arm" is that it feels rushed. Everything from the simplified plot to the shallow characters to the awkwardly choreographed fight scenes.

Sure there is the typical comic relief provided in the form of a drunken monk, played by Phillip Kwok, but even his attempt at lightening the heart of the film feels lackluster. Past characters of drunken kung fu experts have been done excellently and badly, and unfortunately this one is done badly. A man carrying a pot of wine does not equal a character anywhere near the likes of, say, Yuen Siu Tien's iconic turn.

"The Kid With The Golden Arm" tries and tries but fails to improve on traditional Venoms movies. The action is more like badly coordinated dancing than the hard-hitting violence we've come to know from Chang Sheh and the mob.

The inclusion of a female character does nothing to sustain any originality that might be salvaged from its haphazardness. After all, she practically does nothing throughout the film's duration.

To wrap this up "Kid..." is a must for fans itching to add to their Venoms collection, but it's entirely too sub-par to be considered anywhere near a classic in my humble opinion. With blocky, awkward fights reminiscent of Chinese opera, bad characterization and a rather ridiculous try-hard ending, this outing for the legendary group is a little below average.

Again, one of [producer] Mona Fong's best accomplishments. However, because there is so much happening in the film with so many characters, I wish that the movie would've been somewhat longer. You have Yin and Yang (Long Axe, Short Axe) Lee Chi Meng and his girlfriend, agent Hi Tao, and the escorts. Then you have Brass Head, Silver Spear, Iron Robe, and Golden Arms, and in addition, the Seven Hoods. I am really surprised that with all of the brilliant fighters that anyone actually got a chance to fight. However, I did feel a little sad for Ms. Lee. She gained all that gold and lost her husband (?). Well anyway those are the breaks.

I rank "The Kid With The Golden Arm" a superb martial arts flick for any occasion. It is witty and action-packed. And the art is well choreographed.

Whoever dislikes this film is high! This is a kung-fu classic! I was in a theatre with my brother when this movie was playing 20 years ago, and the building was burning down! I could see the flames through the screen and it still wouldn't make us leave! We were forced to leave by the owners! I didn't see the rest of that film until about 3 years ago, and it still remains one of my all-time favorite martial arts films of all time!!!

Mostly weapons fighting in this classic Venom outing, which I sadly found a bit slow and lacking intensity in some scenes.

The story is pretty straightforward, but the characters are cool--especially my man Kuo Chui as drunken agent Hai To and the colorful members of the dreaded Chi Sa gang.

The cast is mostly made up of the Venom boys (all six), apart from bit players, the annoying Helen Poon, and bad guy extraordinaire Wang Lung Wei.

There is a lot to like about this movie: sweet weaponry, deadly traps, cool costumes and an unexpected (at least for me) twist in the end. There's also a great final fight between Kou Chui, Lo Mang, and Sun Chien, all bringing their "A" game to round off this beloved Venom classic.
