 | | | | A little slow at the beginning but it picks up quick for a nice romantic ride. Tony Leung is hilarious in his bit part and Jackie plays the older millionaire love interest quite well. The few fights included were fantastic but dragged a little long in spots. A must for Jackie fans and a great night for everyone else! | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

| Tremendously touching and heart warming tale about a middle aged millionare business man/martial arts expert who falls in love with a country bumpkin that is young enough to be his daughter. Ha! I'm just fucking with you, it's not touching or heart warming. The other creepy and off-puting stuff is true though. Dispite the mushy psuedo-pedophilia undertones of this romantic comedy, it is quite entertaining. But, let's face it, we're here for the fu. It's a shame that Jackie cannot or is just not allowed for some reason to make a decent kung fu movie in America (with the exception of the "Shanghai" movies), but every time he returns to China after a stint here and there he seems to bust out another crowd-pleaser. That is the case here where Jackie returns in top form (or about 85%) and shows he can still dish out the goods.
The real eye catcher of this flick is Brad Allen. He is a member of the Jackie Chan stunt man team and has two stand-out, high quality throwdowns with the Chan-man himself. These battles resonate with the energy and sharpness of the classic Jackie vs. Benny "The Jet" fights.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SLICK AND FAMOUS: There is a dope fight involving Jackie, some guys and bunch of baseball bats. Nice. Brad Allen is still an unknown and it's a shame, because with his clean technique and fierce agility he can probably hang with all the big boys. In the end fight versus Jackie, Brad executes a jumping QUADRUPLE front kick! No strings attached. Seriously.
FINAL WORDS FROM A BASTARD: Ignore the lame love story and get it because you like to see people kick and punch each other. And that is your right. Power to the people! I need more coffee, I'm losin' it over here... |
| | AGREE? | READER COMMENTS | AUTHOR | | N | the fight with Brad Allen was good but the rest of the film is subpar | AH1706 | | N | This was a Jackie Chan picture for women and it was a let down. I miss the Jackie Chan pictures that had more action & better heart. I thought Gorgeous was awful with one great fight to offer-its a big let down. | Rhonda Bale | | N | Aside from one or two decent films, Jackie Chan stopped making good movies in the 1970s. This one is no exception, and his aw-shucks demeanor tends to wear. But still, any movie with Shu Qi is worth at least a couple of stars on her presence alone. | MS10197 | | Y | Agree.... awesome fights, Brad Allen is a beast! Didn't care about the story. Although Shu Qi is a prime piece...! | JAY LEE | | Y | Totally agree with your review-This is a great Jackie Chan film and one of my favorite fight scenes Jackie against Benny- The whole love thing is for the ladies but the fights are outstanding. | JV47842 |

| When Bu a girl from a small fishing town in Taiwan finds a glass bottle with a romantic message, she travels to Hong Kong to find the writer of said note.
But when she arrives in HK, she finds out that her prince is not all what he seems. It turns out he's gay.
Heartbroken, but not defeated, Bu carries on with her life in HK. She later meets C.N. (Jackie Chan). She falls deeply in love with him , but C.N. has fears of commitment.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say " THIS IS ONE OF J-CHAN'S BEST MOVIES EVER!!"
I know a lot of people will disagree with me on that, but it is. I love seeing Jackie pound the heck out of people, but ever so often you have to make a movie that showcases your other talents.
Other thing I like about this movie, Shu Qi. Man is she hot!! This is the first movie I saw her in. I fell in love with her in an instant. Just thinking about her makes me fell all warm and fuzzy inside.
For those of you who like to see J-Chan fighting, don't worry there is some and its good too. Jackie takes on one of his students that he trains in Australia. A really short, fast guy. He fights him twice, and both of the fights are roughly 10 minutes long.
You know, this movie is a great date movie. your girlfriend can enjoy the romance between Jackie and Qi, and you can enjoy looking at Qi Shu and the fighting. |

 | | | | Gorgeous is the first romantic movie that Chan has acted and directed. It is full of action and drama with Jackie Chan, Shu Qi and Tony Leung. We also got to see a great fighter named Brad Allan. Buy this movie!! | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

| With the Rush hour series involving group fights, I decided to rent a Jackie Chan movie hoping there would be a one on one fight scene because I hadn't seen Jackie do this for while and the Rush Hour fights did not satisfy me. As watching Gorgeous I was surprised and glad to see Jackie have such an intense and exciting long lasting fight scene again. It turns out that theres only 2 good fight scenes in this movie, which is Jackie VS Brad Allan. The rest were simple and the usual Jackie Chan style group fights.
However there weren't many fights, instead more story, romance, disney drama, fairytale contents, comedic actions e.t.c. so this movie is worth a rental just to see if you really like those two particular fights I mentioned. If you do then it is worth buying it so you can watch them again and again, especially with the DVD version where you go straight to the fights.
As usual the quality of the movie is at its best and the plot is good because they used a different story and setting this time. Its good for a change, instead of just seeing violent Jackie films, we see fun, disney, action comedy type.
Jackie plays a business man, apparently this is the first time he has played this character role, so thats interesting. The romance stuff happens with Shu Qi and the scenery and setting of the film is rich, wealth and clean.
There nothing more to say really, so just rent the movie first to see if you like it just for the fights or both the fights and the different story. Either way the fights will always be memorable especially with the music that accompanies it. Perfect in my opinion. e.g. musical notes is played as movements are made. This is good work.
Brad Allan is a good martial artist Jackie has to defeat. Just watch it to obtain your own opinion! |

| My sister rented this movie because it was a Jackie Chan film and Tony Leung Chiu Wai was in it. I have always like Tony Leung in the TV series such as 'two honorable knights', 'the grand canal' and 'the heaven sword and dragon sabre'. What bothered me was Tony Leung acted gay. The tale starts off with Boo, who is a fisherman's daughter. She is very playful and her supposed boyfriend, Louis proposes with an oyster shell because the jewelry store was closed. She told him maybe. Her very close friend is a dolphin named Abu. She finds a bottle with a note that says something like I will always be with you or something, signed Albert. She lives in Taiwan. So because her mother was from Hong Kong and said it was beautiful she went to Hong Kong to find Albert (Tony Leung). He's nice to her but he tells her he's gay. Poor her. To make it up to her he takes her on a ride with him on a boat for a photo shooting session. While there, she sees seine (Jackie Chan) fighting and it's love at first sight. She helps him escape and they end up spending a lot of time together because she crashes the boat they were escaping on. Seine is rich and his greatest enemy or most best friend is Howie (Emil Chow). The two were always competing but somehow they cared if each other got hurt. Their competition is to the extreme. Boo comes to Albert and tells him about Seine and how she likes him. Albert tells her that Seine is a player and that he will drop her like he dropped every other girl in his life. Boo doesn't listen but also pretends she is a gangster's missing girlfriend. The only reason she could do this is because she looks like the gangster's girlfriend. She and Jackie spends a lot of time together. Howie wants to play with Jackie, so he has a boxer from across the seas come to challenge Jackie. That is where the best fights are. In the end, Boo ends up with Jackie but that is only when he realizes how much he loves her. |
