| Fighting For Love is very cute. It stars Tony Leung and Sammi Cheng (who also stars in Love on a Diet) as two people who meet by accident and end up falling for each other. Tony Leung's character has a girlfriend who is a spokeswoman for all sorts of products and he seems to be her assistant more than her boyfriend. He runs a restaurant as well. Sammi is a savvy business woman who doesn't take any guff. Anyway - I don't want to give anything away - it's just a simple love story. The acting is pretty good - Tony is ok, but Sammi is fantastic. She's so quirky... if you like that sort of thing. It's just a cute fluff romantic comedy movie... not very dramatic, some funny moments and it leaves you feeling good.
The Universe DVD is a pretty clean transfer and good sound and includes a making of and a music video. It's 2001 film and the production values are pretty decent. These two are also two of the hottest stars right now in that genre - and I don't think they've ever been in a movie together before this. I give it a thumbs up and I'd say 7-8/10. |

| There's two ways to look at a movie like Fighting For Love, and I could easily fall into either camp depending on the mood I'm in. The first and more critical view is that FFL is a slapdash, meaningless romantic comedy with an utterly unsurprising plot, visuals that, save for a few choice shots, are generally uninteresting and use a muted color palette, and not nearly enough solid laughs to carry the film. The other view- the one I was inclined to take, given my low expectations for the film and otherwise uneventful afternoon- was that FFL is a testament to the importance of star-power and audience goodwill. Tony and Sammi give, as expected, excellent performances, and "sell" situations that are otherwise uninspiring. Their initial "meet cute" scene is particularly impressive, being one of the most adverserial in recent memory. Although many character arcs and situations seem to go unresolved and underexploited, the actors can make you forget, at least while you're watching the film, that it's all so illogical. A particularly impressive scene almost screams to be seen on the big-screen in order to see the tears slowly well up in Sammi's eyes. Standout moments like these from the leading actors, as well as a few decent gags and one or two genuinely surprising and funny (if inconsequential) reversals make Fighting For Love a reasonably enjoyable one-off viewing, even if it is a letdown as a potential romantic blockbuster. |

Tung Choi (Tony Leung), the shop owner of the "Lucky Brisket", clashes with Siu Tong (Sammi Cheng), after a car accident. While feeling down about their respective love lives, they decide to meet and resolve the incident peacefully. Instead they both get drunk, and have a one-night stand. Afterwards, Siu Tong finds herself growing quite fond of Tung Choi. But there is a problem: he is already taken by another girl. Does she dare to interfere for her own benefit? The answer is yes.
