ALTERNATE SYNOPSIS:
One of the most controversial Korean films ever made, HAPPY END is a story about an ordinary man who was dealt a hard blow with the loss of his job. As a result, his career woman wife finds happiness instead in the man who used to be her first love. The love triangle soon brews murderous intentions, leading to an unexpected, shocking ending.

INTRO:
Chun and Joo are entangled in a passionate lovemaking scene (R-rated, but for a Korean audience, it'd be NC-17). We discover here that this duo are together for their own individual reasons. Next scene, we meet Choi--Busy looking for work. Laid off for some time now--starting to reluctantly get used to caring for all the house needs...and for his and (wife) Chun's 5 month old baby.

BODY:
Chun genuinely loves Choi, but she's apparently missing the excitement from her marriage and has found fulfillment outside her marriage with her "first love" (Joo)--who now happens to work with her in their field of education. (I think they run a daycare center or a elementary after-school program--not relevant.) Choi comes to suspect (by happenstance only--he really loves and trusts his wife) that she's involved with someone. He sets his mind that he's going to Love her out of it (without her knowing that he knows). But rage gets the best of him, and he sets out to find out who it is she's seeing. He does--in the most unexpected way.

CONCL:
Choi solves the problem and is left with a "HAPPY END" - (or is he?).

Tho'ts:
FANTASTIC MOVIE!! It's played as an ordinary family going through ordinary circumstances. Jealousy, rage, anger, mistrust, love, passion, self sacrifice, introspection....it's got it all. And it's very believable. Not a "movie of the week" feel. More of a Fatal Attraction feel--in terms of acting...way different story. I'd give it a 3-1/2 star out of 4 and "Two thumbs Up". Great Dramas seem hard to come by these days. But this is well worth your money. Just a word of caution though, the first 3 minutes of the movie may lead you to believe that you've picked up a cheesy gratuitous sex movie and not worth watching. Don't make that mistake. There's only 1 other love scene and it's filmed like a PD-13/Cat.IIB 15sec scene. The opening is very important to the movie.

If you're into true-to-life dramas, this one's a keeper.
