An excellent film, though one desperately in need of some editing. No one can deny that Kitamura has a hell of a visual flair; and this film is a great example of his abilities, self-indulgent though they may be.
This film exemplifies what good filmmaking is all about. It's a story of people finding meaningful connections with each other in a small Japanese community in the late '50s, as even the country itself is re-defining itself. Brilliant direction, acting, effects...a beautiful score, it's got it all, a true gem.
An engaging look at one man's life at a mercenary air strike squadron. Beautiful, technically accurate drawings of various fighter jets and equipment, and a storyline that keeps you hooked from beginning to end.
Vicious yet beautiful, you'll be surprised how many angles this film plays effectively--violence, love, terror, revenge, faith... An unforgettable viewing experience.
