A super-fun popcorn flick with surprisingly good martial arts sequences, "Blade" definitely deserves more credit for expanding the genre than it usually gets, having been overshadowed by "The Matrix".
"The Blair Witch Project" is the perfect horror film. It proved that it's not what you show, but what you don't show that matters. Innovative, fresh, and superbly constructed.
Although director Wes Anderson didn't really get much hype until 1998's "Rushmore", this 1996 film is much funnier and doesn't have the awkward, self-indulgent bloat of his later films.
The blurb describes this film as "oddly gripping", and that's really the perfect description. The characters and dialog are surprisingly rich. Unfortunately, it has a "made for TV" feel. Someone should definitely re-make this one.
