Fist Of The White Lotus (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure A killer sequel to "Abbot of Shaolin" and "Executioners from Shaolin". I would consider these to be the sequel to "Invincible Shaolin", as well, but that's just my opinion. Anyway, this movie totally kicks butt. Basically a rehash of "Executioners from Shaolin", but bad-ass nonetheless.
Executioners From Shaolin (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Bad-ass movie that is totally ridiculous and over the top. I can't really say there is anything that I dislike about this movie. It's so cheesy, but that's what makes it so amazing. It's the quintessential kung fu epic that confuses Chinese history with fantastic absurdities--that and all those awesome hard zooms.
Drunken Master 2 (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure A cool Wong Fei Hung movie, somewhat more in the vein of "Once Upon A Time In China," than that of "Drunken Master." The direction of Lau Kar Leung in the early sequences of the film really gives this one a late 70's/early 80's Shaw Brothers feel. Kind of like if "Drunken Master" was more like "My Young Auntie" or "Mad Monkey Kung Fu". The choreography has not come a long way in the past 20 years, in my opinion. It really reached its peak in about 1978/79, but I digress... Great ending fight sequence.
Dance Of The Drunk Mantis (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure A weird, yet awesome, movie that I consider to be the proper sequel to "Drunken Master," as opposed to Jackie Chan's sequel. Almost the entire cast and the director are included, all except Chan. Not much of a loss there, as Corey Yuen is a really charismatic hero and excellent martial artist--not to mention Wo Ping's choreography is top notch. I loved the sequence at the beginning of "Drunken Master" featuring Corey Yuen vs. Hwang Jang Lee, and this is more of the same.
The Chinese Boxer (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure An excellent early Jimmy Wang Yu film that has that campy style perfected later in his magnum opus, "Master of the Flying Guillotine". This one is a total cheese fest, but the action is totally awesome and the story is enveloping. The fighting sequences are directed well, but the choreography is really dated. Still, one of the best for Wang Yu fans.
The 7 Grandmasters (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This movie has excellent kung fu sequences. There's something like nine fighting sequences over the course of the movie; and each one is long, so most of the movie is pure action. The kung fu is top notch, so if you enjoy that sort of thing I highly recommend this one. For fans of "Mystery of Chess Boxing", "Born Invincible", etc.
