| Sam The Iron Bridge Part III, as it was called when I saw it originally, is an unusually well-made "hands-on" Boxer Rebellion era film in martial arts.
If one comes for the fighting and not philosophy or plot then I suggest you get a copy sharpish! What makes this film outstanding is not the lead part of Sam (To Siu Chung) but on the boss part of Prince Hing (Chiu Cheung Gwan). This is an apparently great wushu master who is badly utilised in the parts he acts. He is unique here in that he heals himself when harmed and so effectively cannot be killed, thus there was a lot of opportunity to develop his character but it was sadly under used.
I suggest that the producers cannot do better than this film due to the limits of their budget but also due to the attribute that they use too many actors and therefore find it difficult to focus on improving aspects of the film which can take it a step forward. Simply the best kungfu film ever. |
