Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Classy swordplay movie that's consciously styled after Italian westerns. Cool movie that hasn't been hyped to death on the internet until it recently became available with the Celestial/IVL DVD. It's worth seeing if you like older swordplay or Shaw Brothers movies.

King Of Kings (product link)

A must-have for fans of early seventies swordplay films. Joseph Kuo's direction is assured and on a higher technical level than much of what was being filmed in Taiwan at the time.

The melodrama is a bit overdone but the visuals are well conceived and the fight choreography ahead of its time. Worth the time for fans of the older wuxia movies.

The Eight Immortals (product link)

This is not a kung fu movie, something that reading any synopsis would easily lead you to believe. Judging this movie as such is silly.

"Eight Immortals" is a fantasy film, and a pretty enjoyable one too. Well worth checking out if you like the Shaw Brothers' "Journey to the West" movies like "Land of Many Perfumes" and "Cave of the Silken Web". Also has a smattering of hilariously blatant political allegory.
