Gender: Male
Location: New Zealand
Bio: Kung Fu collector/enthusiast for many moons, the golden era for me puts me in a mystical world filled with larger than life characters consisting of the most villianist villans you can imagine vs the most iconic righteous you can have, it doesn't get any better, plus for an hour and a half you are bewildered by vibrant colours against goregous stage sets and wonderful backdrops with the most inventive fighting choreography and weapon system ever invented, albeit never to be seen again..

7-Man Army (see film details)
Martial Arts / War

This for me was a risk. I wanted to see if Ti Lung and the boys could still hold it down in a flick with almost zero kung fu. Granted in the flashback scenarios we get glimpses of fu action, but it wasn't enough to satisfy my hunger. Ti Lung I guess is good in any role he plays--in fact I have nothing to complain about, they all acted extremely well. I know this flick gets good reviews, but personally it just wasn't for me. Give me all the actors again but in a solid kung fu flick and I'm sure it would be a five star rating.

Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

I had heard so many things about this fu flick that I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Unfortunately, when I was only 15 minutes through, I knew I wasn't going to enjoy this one. Being a big fan of Chen Kwan Tai, I was disappointed to see the fight choreography looking early 70's. The saving grace to get 2 stars was the last act.

Two Assassins Of Darkness (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Great cast and well-done suspense, should have been a top-notch fu flick--had everything going for it apart from the most crucial factor: choreography (for me anyway). This almost destroyed the movie for me. The fight scenes were shockingly weak for a movie starring Wang Tao and Chang Yi (who have fought against each other countless times in countless other movies). Don't get me wrong, it's still a good flick for the acting; but if you only like fu flicks for--well--fu, then you might just want to rent this.

Judgement Of An Assassin (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Standard fare with a good cast, including Chan Wai Man looking like one of the baddest mo' fo's around. I'm not the biggest fan of David Chiang, but I'll give him credit, he wielded his "batton" weapon very well. Ku Feng looked and acted great as per usual.

Young Hero (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Only if you are a Hwang Jang Lee fan must you pick this up, otherwise avoid it. It has some nice fu fight scenes featuring Kwan Yung Moon and other players, but because of bad editing, etc. it is really hard to get into. I was disappointed with Tino Wong in this film, as he looked a bit stiff and unispired by his duels. 3 stars because of Hwang's commanding performance. Without him, 1 star.

Shaolin Daredevils (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

I hope I don't get blasted for this review, but I have to say I think this is one of the weaker Venom flicks that I have seen--and I have seen them all!! I love Venom flicks. In actual fact they are pretty much up there with my favourite fu movies of all time, but this one didn't cut it for me. Wang Li (some people refer to him as the 6th Venom) was the stand-out performer to me. I know the flick was about acrobatic performers, but apart from Lo Meng's fight scene about halfway through and Wang Li's scenes, this just wasn't the best Venoms flick in my opinion--but I would still want to own it at the end of the day to complete the mighty Venoms collection.

Clan Feuds (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Enjoyable sword fu flick in the traditional manner, bolstered by the presence of Ko Fei playing a blind assassin--wicked.

The Deadly Breaking Sword (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Excellent flick. The ever present Ti Lung never does anything wrong--no wonder he has starred in 80+ fu flicks. Fu Sheng plays his usual character, but don't get me wrong, he is also gifted with the fu action. And then we have Ku Feng, who, like Ti Lung, has starred in 20,000 flicks as well. But for me it was Chan Wai Man: out of all the actors, he stood out for me. He played his character very well; he also looked wicked when he made the transformation to the grey locks. But for me also it's about the choreography, and apart from the use of some interesting camera work, I thought some of the action wasn't as good as other fu flicks from 1979. But in saying that, I still think it's a worthy piece to add to anyone's collection.

Along Comes The Tiger (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

I'm a sucker for Wang Tao fu flicks. He has the misfortune of starring in a lot of independent fu flicks that more often then not suffer from shoddy editing that takes away the impact of the fight scenes. But in saying that, he is up there as one of the best fu actors of his generation, intense with a capital "I"--dare I say almost on the intensity level of the great Bruce Lee. Every fu flick he is in is almost garanteed to get you emotionally involved with his character as you ride the wave with him on his path of destruction. This flick is no different. He is outstanding as a mute, and all bit players are good as well--Ko Fei is wicked as one of Wang Tao's first real fights and Tommy is equally evil as a Hunchback master of a gang. As a side note, I'm sure Tommy likes playing hunchback characters, as he has played this type before!! Strange. Recommended.

The Treasure Hunters (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Let me explain why I am rating this movie four stars: plain and simple, the action!! If you ignore the comedy (and there is a lot of it) and concentrate on the "high calibre" action sequences, you will come out by the end of this fu flick exhausted! The last 20+ minutes are high octane fu fighting. Excluding your regular ass-kickers Gordon and Wang Lung Wei, I thought the standout was Yeung Jing Jing with her double blades--truly wicked! You also get a nice fight scene with her versus Wilson Tong earlier before the finale. Highly recommended (minus the comedy crap). I tell it like it is.

Gang Master (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

I knew nothing about this movie but am very happy I picked this up. I thought the main character (Austin Wai Tin-Chi) performed his fight scenes exceptionally well. I would recommend this fu flick if you like the fight scenes more than plot--which in hindsight wasn't as confusing as they normally are! But let's face it, we only get these for the action right?

The Martial Club (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Wow, what can you say? You have all heard this before: the end fight scene in the alley which gets smaller as they proceed further while combating each other with the sickest moves you'll ever see!! Gordon and Wang Lung Wei serve the audience up a treat. No need to say any more. Just do yourselves a favor a go and buy the damn thing!!!! It's worth owning.

Super Power [PanMedia] (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Excellent flick, even better I thought then the highly rated "Jade Claw" and that flick is cool as well. Billy Chong, what can you say, marvelous form, ferocious delivery and intense acting... Recommended.

Opium And The Kung-Fu Master (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Ti Lung is top-notch in this flick, featuring excellent acting and action of the highest order. Ko Fei is as good as ever as one of the henchmen--on that note, almost any movie with him in it is sure to be of high quality standards. And let's not forgot one of the other greats, Chen Kaun Tai, with another stand-out performance. Highly Recommended.

Bastard Swordsman (see film details)
Martial Arts / Swordplay/Sword(s)

Heard a lot about this film, finally got to see it and it was everything it was meant to be. Great cast, including Wilson Tong and Lo Meng, awesome action--if not a bit over the top--but still an excellent flick. Recommended with popcorn and a few mates.

Ten Tigers From Kwangtung (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

A particular favorite of mine from Chang Cheh, boasting a star-studded cast with the fu action coming from every angle. You get colorful characters, weapons galore (one strange one!), and a plot that after two minutes you will be scratching your head saying "wtf?" The last segment of the flick is my favorite though, the choreography steps up a few notches and really delivers. Kwan Feng looks wicked with his spear; and, as you would expect, he uses it like a true master. Another important piece of kung fu history that should be added to anyone's collection without hesitation.

The Avenging Eagle (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

There is no use mentioning anything about this flick, it has already been said a thousand times over: classic flick, wonderful cast, excellent acting, iconic bad ass baddie leader (Ku Feng), chemistry between Fu Sheng and Ti Lung is top notch, etc... A definite classic from Sun Chung and Shaw Brothers. A must own!!!

Dance Of The Drunk Mantis (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

I loved the shapes by Corey and co. in this one. Hwang Jang Lee performed surprisingly well considering his trademark kicking style was absent--instead his version of Northern Mantis well and truly made up for this. Everyone in this fu flick kicked a**, including Linda Lin Jing. A Yuen classic, not to be missed.

Lady Kung Fu (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Man, this flick is the s**t!!! Who cares if it was made in the early seventies (1972)? Who cares that the choreography is dated? I reckon Carter Wong never looked better (apart from "Born Invincible"). All players, in my book, looked and acted brutal, all kicked a**!!, and Angela, well, she was down with the wickedness for sure!! 'Nuff said. Go and get a copy of this now, you won't regret it, I sure didn't. Highly Recommended.

Grand Master Of Death [Ground Zero] (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Solid entry from Fu Sheng and company. This movie is a shining example that it doesn't matter what year a fu flick is produced (1976). If handled correctly (I'm talking about the fight action), it still comes off wicked and intense, it doesn't have to be intricate and flashy as long as it has the intensity--especially the finale between Fu Sheng and the baddest of bad, Wang Lung Wei. Not only are the fight scenes good, but the actual plot and acting is top notch in my opinion. Highly recommended.
