Mad Monkey Kung Fu (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This film was incredible! I almost gave it 4 1/2 stars simply for the scene of monkey abuse, but I soon realized that dealing out a double dose of revenge on the bad guys made me give it the full five stars. Lau Kar Leung and Hsiao Hao have some amazing training scenes in classic monkey fist. Once again, Lau never lets us forget that he is a master director and martial artist. The story becomes even more endearing when one witnesses the bond between master and student growing. A truly bad ass movie!
Return Of The 5 Deadly Venoms (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Don't let the U.S. title fool you. This IS NOT a 5 Venoms sequel. However, that does not mean that this movie should not be added to your kung fu movie collection. Chang Chieh directs another masterpiece with this tale of brotherhood and bloody revenge. Each of our heroes learns to work around their disabilites with deadly results. Keep an eye out for the ultra-destructive force of the iron-legged hero. I bought this movie sight unseen, and was very glad I did. DON'T HESITATE - BUY THIS DVD!!
Five Deadly Venoms (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This movie was incredibly entertaining, and a little creepy. The legend behind the Venom house is pretty gripping, and leads to some nice plot twists. Figuring out who has good intentions and who has evil intentions is pretty cool. My only complaint was that I though there could have been a little more action, but what action Chang Cheh directs is great! This one is indeed a classic, and not to be missed.
The story is somewhat comical, but turns deadly serious when Gordon Liu sends a letter to his new Japanese bride that is misinterpreted as a challenge to Japanese martial arts. The subsequent fighting sequences really showcase both the Hung Gar style and Japanese martial arts as well.
A load of very entertaining and extremely well coreographed fight scenes throughout! This leads to the final showdown between kung fu and ninjitsu. Another great movie with a timeless message at the end. Enjoy it - I already have many times!
