Decent but wholly unspectacular film. It would have been better if they cut the first half which is, all in all, boring; but the movie is saved by the second half that has some pretty decent fights. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Love Me Deadly (see film details) Horror / Thriller
A movie centering around a blooming necrophiliac and a cult of murderous necrophiliacs isn't probably the kind of movie you'd expect to find a romantic love story in--unless you too are a necrophiliac--but this is what "Love Me Deadly" attempts to do and unfortunately falls flat or maybe into its own grave. When it's working the murderous necrophiliac cult plot, it is pretty decent; but the love story is painfully slow and it makes up most of the movie. Technically it is a very solid movie, the director wasn't an amateur and it is very well shot with plenty of vivid colour and that swinging 60s atmosphere. But when you are putting all your promotion on wild exploitation and instead you focus your film on a rather bland love story, you've really missed your mark. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

My second favorite Jackie Chan movie right behind "Drunken Master 2". It's Jackie Chan at his fighting peak along with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. One of the best things about this movie is the wanton destruction of just about every set you see in the movie. Tons of fun for any fan of kung fu. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Blind Woman's Curse (see film details) Thriller / Action/Adventure
A blend of yakuza movie and horror movie with all the crazy flair that only Teruo Ishii could bring. My favorite part of the movie was the traveling freakshow that is signature Ishii: all the crazy colours and sights convey what madness must truly look like. A must for Meiko Kaji fans--she does a great job as a girl with a sword and an urge for revenge. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | La Sorella Di Ursula (see film details) Horror / Erotica
In the waning days of gialli, filmmakers had to compete with a slew of exploitation choices like nuns and nazis (first, last, and only time those two words will stand shoulder to shoulder I bet); so they had two choices: go the surreal nightmare route like Dario Argento, or go for seconds on the sleaze like in this film. It appears a lot of like a cheaper version of "Strip Nude For Your Killer" (yes, it is possible), where all the women you see in the movie eventually get naked and get killed--in this case by a wooden dildo (ouch all the way around). Make no mistake about it, this is the height of sleazy gialli filmmaking, but who says you can't revel in the sleaze just a little bit? This is only for exploitation fans--the average moviegoer whose film experience never strays from the local multiplex will be horrified, repelled, and disgusted by almost every second of this film (probably why I like it so much); but exploitation fans will find little to quibble over in this extra sleazy slice of the gialli pie. |

 | | | | The Brave Archer (see film details) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure
The first part of the ultimate kung-fu epic. A massive cast who all play wild characters which really helps keep them all apart. The kung-fu is excellent although Fu Sheng hasn't gotten to be an archer yet--brave yes, archer no. That really leads into the main problem: all four movies have to be watched close together. This isn't a good standalone movie because it ends much like a chapter in a book: you immediately want to move on to the next chapter. But if you have the time and the ability to pay attention, you will love this kung-fu epic, the "Lord of the Rings" of the kung-fu world. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Brothers Five (see film details) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure
Thrilling kung-fu revenge flick which is about 85 percent fighting. Surprisingly the fighting never got old or repetitive, thanks to a wide array of weapons and styles used. A strong cast of familiar faces, including a very young Sammo Hung in an early role. The final move is so reminiscent of Transformers Devastator, five becoming one, it made me laugh but it still worked well with the rest of the movie. If you want a decent if not deep plot and a movie that is pretty much a cavalcade of fighting, check this one out, you won't be sorry. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

Great gialli from Sergio Martino. While not as glamorous as his other outings like "Case Of The Scorpion's Tail" or "The Strange Vice Of Mrs. Wardh", it still does entertain in that special gialli way. It toured the US a great deal in the '70s and, with "Twitch of the Death Nerve", really helped lay the foundation for the modern slasher movie. While it does remove some of the whodunit in exchange for a more horror final act, it is still a gialli full of gorgeous naked women, crazy surreal 70s camerawork, and plenty of gore courtesy of a psycho with a knife. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

 | | | | Vengeance Is A Golden Blade (see film details) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure
I was rather surprised I didn't like this movie. It was a kung fu version of "Kramer Vs. Kramer". I think the biggest weakness in this film was the story and how they characterized Chin Ping's character as the most gullible heroine in kung fu history. The entire middle of the movie is people convincing her to do stupid things because she is angry at her dad, her dad forgiving her, and then her getting angry again. That was very aggravating, especially when I am much more used to Cheng Pei-Pei or Li Lili who were much stronger female leads out for revenge. Not the best sword-swinging revenge movie out there. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

Outstanding film. Kinji Fukasaku at his best. Exceptional tale of the Japanese men that wasted their lives in the sweltering jungles of the Pacific who were just men--tired, sick men, not the action movie villains we've come to see them as. One of my favorite war movies despite the fact that there is almost no depiction of actual combat anywhere in the film. The "Rashomon" style is used very well in the film, much like the French film "A Very Long Engagment" which is a much happier version of the same type of story. A heart-wrenching personal tale of the horrors of war delivered by one of the greatest directors of cinema anywhere in the world. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! | | AGREE? | READER COMMENTS | AUTHOR | | Y | I couldn't agree more with your review. This is a fantastic Kinji fukasaku picture, it really showcases his talent in this film. | JV47842 |

 | | | | Human Lanterns (see film details) Horror / Thriller
Decidedly grim kung fu horror story that really blends the kung fu and the horror exceptionally well. The colour in this film is exceptionally vivid, it reminded me of the gialli films from Mario Bava with the very distinct reds and blues. Lau Wing does an excellent job of being a complete asshole for the first 2/3s of the film, but by the end you really find yourself sympathizing for him despite all his rather obnoxious tendencies. Definitely a good movie to watch on Halloween if you're a fan of kung fu. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! | | AGREE? | READER COMMENTS | AUTHOR | | Y | you're right i found the film very entertaining. | kung fu kid |

 | | | | 99 Cycling Swords (see film details) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure
So-so kung fu film. The fights were often too loaded down with gimmicks. At first some of the gimmicks are amusing, but far too quickly they make the fights drag out and soon become the bane of the film. Too many long comedic sections as well, which really cut away at what could have been a decent film in the right hands. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |
