I can see why this is a fan favorite, despite the somewhat lackluster fight choreography: colorful villains and heroes and a simple storyline that moves along at brisk pace to a satisfying conclusion. My fourth favorite Venoms film after "5 Deadly...", "Crippled Avengers", and "Invincible Shaolin". Even if "Killer Army" has much better choreography, I still like this movie better as a whole. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

Four stars might be a bit high for a silly Chopsocky movie, but [the Pathfinder Pictures DVD had] a very fine print, Chinese, English Dub, and commentary track so I'll round up half a star. Jimmy Wang Yu achieved fame at Shaw Brothers for his portrayal of the One Armed Swordsman in 1967. By the beginning of the 70s he left Shaw Brothers, presumably to have more artistic control over his films. What I like about Jimmy is he always makes his movies entertaining. If this movie isn't as over the top as "Return of the Chinese Boxer" and "Master of the Flying Guillotine", it's still a lot of fun. Also, unlike those classics, it's not a period piece but a contemporary (1973) story with a feel similar to the Bruce Lee movies "The Big Boss" and "Way of the Dragon", but goofier. Not to say it's a kung fu comedy, but there is something about Wang Yu's movies form this period that gives them an underlying winking feel. Also worth mentioning is an early appearance of the great Yasuaki Kurata as one of the three Japanese brothers who have been trained by the "lady with a iron fist", a short tubby woman who proves to be Jimmy's greatest challenge (and the inspiration behind the movie's most hilarious moments).
In short, if you are looking for an early 70s kung fu flick with a contemporary setting, you could do a lot worse than this flick. |

Ti Lung, Fu Sheng AND the 6 Venoms!? What a cast. However the story is not as interesting as "5 Deadly Venoms" or "Crippled Avengers". Quite the run-of-the-mill Ming Rebels vs. Ching bad guys. But the end fights with the next generation (Baby Venoms? I'm not sure) is quite good. Not essential but not a bad addition to your Shaw Bros. collection. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |

This is a stand-out film for Shaw Brothers. It's always mentioned that nobody gets killed in this, which may be a first for the studio, but besides that I found the husband and wife rivalry very refreshing. The fact that Gordon has to fight 7 separate fights against 7 different styles of Japanese martial arts is by itself worthy of making this a must-see classic. | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! | | AGREE? | READER COMMENTS | AUTHOR | | Y | There's so much about this film that's refreshing...this film is just amazing. | Choco |

 | | | | Shaolin Intruders (see film details) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure
This is another solid Shaw Brothers production with two likable protagonists (the straight man and the devil-may-care gambler) who are out to prove that four maurading bandits are actually Shaolin monks gone bad. Lots of excellent fight scenes ensue! | | LOG IN TO COMMENT ON THIS REVIEW! |
