Iron Monkey [1993] (see film details) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure
I originally saw this film in the theatre and forgot how good it is. The story follows a Robin Hood type character called the Iron Monkey. He fights against the corrupt and inept government to help out the citizens.
Then enter Wong Fei-Hong and his dad, Wong Kei-Ying, played by Donnie Yen. Mistaken as the Iron Monkey, Kei Ying must capture the real Iron Monkey to save his son. On top of that, he must also fight a corrupt Buddhist monk and his minions.
The end battle on the logs was great; this is the climatic fight you hope for. I really like the fight with Miss Orchid and the 4 Buddhist monks. The way she moves and uses the cart are clever and fun. Mostly, I watched this film for Wong Fei-Hong. Ever since “Once Upon a time in China”, I have tried to watch movies and read as much as I can about his life.
Directed by Yuen Wo Ping, Iron Monkey is a great kung fu movie with wall to wall fighting and a great story too. It is a must watch movie.
