B13: Banlieue 13 (see film details)
Action/Adventure / Martial Arts

Parkour (free running) and Kung Fu together at last...if you don't count most Jackie Chan films. Add in a bit of "Escape From NY" nonsense and you've got a pretty fun ride.

A Brief History Of People's Republic Of China (see film details)
Documentary / Historical

Propaganda history on crack. These rapid-fire reports look like they might have been sandwiched between TV shows. Kind of like Schoolhouse Rock, only with industrial-communist vignettes instead of animated songs about English grammar and US politics.

Operation Scorpio (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Okay maybe, just maybe, Scorpion Style isn't the most effective martial art ever. It is probably one of the most fun though.

The plot offers tweaks on the themes of "no good deed goes unpunished" and "young pupil seeks master\training."

Kim Won Jin is a blast to watch (even with his "period" hair style). Lau Kar Leung, as always, is fantastic as well. As the callow youth, Chin Kar Lok, does a good job.

Overall it's a stylized, over-the-top, and all-around fun flick!

Bio-Zombie (see film details)
Dark Comedy / Horror

This is a fun zombie comedy. The undead are western-style (non-floating/hopping) corpses. Most of the humor is verbal but comes across well in the translation. The underlying moral is that video-game playing will save us from the apocalypse.

Azumi (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

I remember enjoying this movie. I don't remember anything else about it though, which isn't that good of a sign.

A Better Tomorrow (see film details)
Action/Adventure / Bullet Ballet

Frickin' awesome! You already know that though because you've seen it or read all the other reviews.

The Blade (see film details)
Swordplay/Sword(s) / Action/Adventure

I caught this movie at a Hong Kong film fest in the 90's. I really dug it. I bought the Jimmy Wang Yu "One Armed Swordsman" box set plus "One Armed Boxer" films while searching for the one I'd seen in the theater. I really enjoyed those of course, but still couldn't find Tsui Hark's "One Armed Swordsman." Little did I know it was simply called "The Blade." Thanks HKFlix for helping me find it!

Chinese Super Ninja (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

The name says it all: Chinese. Super. Ninja.

Does it get any more badass? Nope, not really.

Drunken Monkey (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Lau Kar Leung and Gordon Liu in a movie called "Drunken Monkey"?! This should be fantastic!

Well, maybe my expectations were too high. Lau Kar Leung and Gordon Liu are both excellent. The younger stars are fine too. The fights are great. The pieces are all great. The sum of the parts, however, seems a bit lacking.

Shaolin Kung Fu Master Collection [8-Disc Set] (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Shaolin Kung Fu Master Collection is the Instant Old School Library!

I have been burned by kung fu box sets before. Sub-par movies that have been cropped, bad dubs without subs, and really bad transfers.

This set is just the opposite. Great movies that are true classics. Celestial did a fantastic job with the disks too. They clean, clear, and crisp. The colors pop out at you. The audio is good. The subs are fine. Nice packaging and notes.

Home Theater Tune-Up (see film details)
Instructional

All-in-all this is a great value. The actors do a good job of presenting the info needed to calibrate your system. They can be a little grating at times but luckily you can just skip to the tests and tools if you know what you are doing!

The Invincible Kung Fu Guy (see film details)
Comedy / Martial Arts

The Invincible Kung Fu Guy delivers just what it should: The Epic Grandeur of The Martial Arts Masterpiece of All Time. Move over Drunken Master, Fong Sai Yuk, Shaolin Master Killer… Make way for the Invincible Kung Fu Guy!

The Holy Virgin Versus The Evil Dead (see film details)
Erotica / Martial Arts

Great title! I was hoping for "so bad it's good" but it was just kinda stinky.

Dragon Fight (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Good fights and funny Americans. Plus, it was cool to see young Jet Li and Steven Chow in a movie together (with Dick Wei!).

Drunken Master 2 (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

One of the best action movies of any style or geography. Period.

I saw this in a theater years ago and it blew me away. Whenever I watch it again I am reminded how great it is (even though Jackie is just a -little- too old to be playing Wong Fei Hung at that age).

Tai Chi Chuan [Instructional] (see film details)
Instructional / Martial Arts

Not as good as a Tai Chi class, but significantly cheaper.

This moving ruined all Western action movies for me.

Yes, it is fantastic. Check it out and see what all the fuss is about.

The Victim [1980] (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

This is a great Sammo flick, but... The Victim's particular mix of comedy, blood, and High Drama (though common in Chinese cinema) left me a bit cold for some reason.

Wing Chun (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Michelle Yeoh, Donnie Yen, and Yuen Wo Ping deliver a great action comedy with this one!
