Zebraman (see film details)
Comedy / Action/Adventure

Sometimes lags but it's a funny spoof movie about Japanese TV shows.

Killer's Nocturne (see film details)
Crime / Drama

"Killer's Nocture" is one of Nam Nai Choi's more serious films before he started doing the awesome weirdo films like "Seventh Curse" or "Story of Ricky". This movie is about a kid whose father is coerced toward suicide after being beaten and humiliated by a gangster leader in a (Chinese) gambling game. He now lives in total misery after a girl he fell in love with gets killed and is forced to leave the country. He must now habituate gambling and seek revenge against his father. (Forgive my silliness of telling the plot line.) The story is really good. There are moments of ridiculousness, like when the kid fights a kangaroo, and some of the death scenes are funny--violent on the level of "Seventh Curse", but funny. The action was good as well. I totally recommend this one.

Men From The Gutter (see film details)
Crime / Thriller

This is one of the best films ever. This movie has a ton of action with a lot of blood. It's a complex yet understandable story about these cops on the hunt for a hitman who is seeking revenge against a triad gang. This film is directed by Lam Nai Choi ("Story Of Ricky"), who is now one of my all time favorite directors. I really must recommend this movie. It's fast-paced, a bit weird, with bloody and well choreographed action and editing (it won an award for best editing from some trivial movie awards thing).

Dororo (see film details)
Action/Adventure / Fantasy

A movie about an artificial samurai who is on a quest to retreive 48 of his body parts from demons with the help of the obnoxious Dororo. My feelings about this movie are ambivalent. The film does have good moments like SOME of the fight scenes, and some of the story is good, like when the artifical samurai went into a town to stop cannibalistic demons, or the part when the samurai was at infancy and being simulated by the scientist. But this movie is too pop culture-esque. First, the film drags. I'm agitated with that Dororo character, yelling and acting retarded throughout the movie. It was poorly acted. The overall story was weak and dull. I love the concept of it all, but it just lags on to the point where you just want to see the action (in which I hate). The cinematography I'm ambivalent towards. Some certain things are cool, like the infant scene because I have a thing for artifical hybridizing simulations or flesh machine fusion (through malignancy or by other means). But other parts are dull. So I'm not clear as to whether this film is a must-see or not. I like it just fine. I can only guess I was devastated because I expected better.

Chinese Super Ninja (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

This is one of my favorite films. It's about this martial arts clan who are given a challenge by the 5 element ninjas after defeating a samurai from a rival clan. Of course the martial arts clan lose and are wiped out by the ninjas. one man survives and learns ninjistu from some old master and takes revenge. A lot of fights and all of it good. No doubt one of the best.

Avenging Warriors Of Shaolin (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Another great Venoms film (hear an echo??) about three working-class chums who all are kung fu masters who help an icon Shaolin rebel from the evil Lu Feng and his band of weirdos. Great fights and the story is tolerable.

Shaolin Challenges Ninja (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

The movie that started the whole ninja thing in China (I believe). Regardeless, this is yet another great movie by Lau Kar Leung. I like the fact that they cast Japanese actors and martial artist to played the fighting opponents for Gordon Liu. All the fights were great as usual.

Suicide Club (see film details)
Mystery / Thriller

A fun and happy movie.

The only other movie to ever give me a kind of feeling that is unexplainable and ecstatic was "Tetsuo: The Iron Man". This movie achieved that feeling with such asperity. But the thing I hate about this movie is the logic of suicide. There is no logic in suicide. You simply die. I can never see the beauty in deaths like these Mansonites in this film. If you kill yourself, you die.

But despite my slant on things this film was a mind bender, very original and bloody. But this film does get to me, and 80% of it would have to do with the fact that I had a music partner who threw himself of a bridge. I don't take death too well, even with my animals.

Judgement Of An Assassin (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

This movie has got some great and intense action. The story is okay, nothing appealing, but it's good enough.

Invincible Shaolin (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Though this film does somewhat lack kung fu action (only three short fights in the beginning and in the middle and a 15-minute long one at the end), I did like this one.

Full Moon Scimitar (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Another weird yet captivating Chor Yuen film of murder, mystery and beautifully crafted sets. The settings in this film are wonderous.

The Magnificent Ruffians (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Another great Venoms film. This one tells the story of an evil man who yearns to fight martial artists to death and consume the land for prosperity, but Lo Meng ultimately refuses. The fights are great as usual.

The Fatal Flying Guillotines [3-Disc Set] (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

A ton of kung fu action, a decent story with a weird ending. I mostly liked this film because of the conception of the flying guillotines. But it's a good film overall.

The Trail Of The Broken Blade (see film details)
Swordplay/Sword(s) / Martial Arts

Nothing beats a 60's classic Jimmy Wang Yu and Chang Cheh film. I love these films for the bloody swordfights and the great stories and cinematography and this one has it in spades.

Return Of The 5 Deadly Venoms (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Aside from "Five Deadly Venoms", this is by far the greatest Venoms film ever made (in my opinion, that is--I don't care what you like). Great kung fu action, the crippled concept is original and innovative and the story is great.

YDefinitely agree, this was the best after the original classic!Sgt. T

Shaolin Vs. Ninja (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

I love these exploitation Shaolin vs. Ninja movies. This one is really good though. The fights were really well choreographed and the story is enough to keep you interested.

New Tales Of The Flying Fox (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

I perfer the Venoms version of this movie. Yes this movie is either a rip-off of "Legend Of The Fox" or perhaps a three-years-later new version of this film. I'm not ever sure if it's based on a book. Well at any rate, the movie does have a ton of kung fu action. The story was just too dumb.

NIt is called a remake, like Fist of the White Lotus was in regards to Executioners From Shaolin. The story was basically the same.Sgt. T

Mad Monkey Kung Fu (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Although the kung fu action is a bit lacking, the story does more than make up for it. This movie has great comedy, drama and the fights were good.

The Kid With The Golden Arm (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Rates number 7 as one of my favorite Venoms films ever. The fights were a bit too choreographed, but overall the movie was a cult classic. I love this stuff.

House Of Traps (see film details)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

A decent way to end the whole Venoms saga with "House Of Traps". I wished for more fights, but what was there was really good. Story is okay.
