| WORST JAPANESE FILM OF THE PAST DECADE? (355 views) | AUTHOR / DATE |
| Given the critical and audience acclaim of Battle Royale, it was probably an impossible task for the sequel to live up to all the pre-release hype. However, I think most everyone was unprepared for the abject awfulness that is Battle Royale 2.
This movie has it all: horrible acting, a muddled plot, a terrible soundtrack, laughable special effects (think Saving Private Ryan directed by Ed Wood)etc. And while many movies have intelligently critiqued American foreign policy, Battle Royale 2 contains perhaps the most juvenile anti-Americanism I have ever seen in a movie. To top it all off, it is an absolute snoozefest.
I am interested what everyone else thinks of this dreck and if you don't believe it is the worst Japanese movie of the past decade, what is? | MS10197 10/1/2008 10:38 PM |
| #2 | I totally agree. This film is awful. | Apix1 10/1/2008 11:06 PM |
| #3 | Horrible, dull, and uninspired movie. Interestingly it doesn't have nearly that bad a rating on IMDB, with nearly a 4.7/10 rating on almost 7,000 votes. This seems to indicate that many people didn't find it that bad. | YoMama 10/2/2008 1:07 AM |
| #4 | It wasn't nearly as good as Battle Royale, clearly, but it was an ok flick. Certainly NOT the worst Japanese film in the last 10 years...have you never seen any J-horror? Garbage like Infection, Shikoku, Ju-On, etc, THAT stuff is universally abysmal. | TheDenizen 10/2/2008 9:09 AM |
| #5 | I do agree about J-Horror films. Once you have seen one, you have seen them all. Another film that may compete with Battle Royale for the title of worst Japanese film of all-time is Casshern. It is without a doubt one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. Furthermore the plot is a muddled mess. | MS10197 10/2/2008 10:42 AM |
| #6 | Well, here I agree 100%. I literally couldn't make it through "Casshern." I wouldn't call the plot a "muddled mess," but that's only because I'm not sure the damn thing HAD a plot.
By the way, I hope you meant to type "Battle Royale 2" above, rather than "Battle Royale."

| #7 | Everyone hates on this moive. While I don't think it is amazing, I still enjoy watching it. Seriously, there are worse films out there. | cacomistle 4/10/2009 3:05 PM |
| #8 | I really enjoyed the start of the film, the beach raid scene was awesome. After that it just goes down hill fast. The movie really doesn't go anywhere when they all hold up inside the building. Its really nothing like first movie besides taking place on an island. I've seen worse Japanese over the years but BR2 does get quit boring.
The big reason the filmed turned out to be a mess was Kinji Fukasaku passed away right when they started filming. He only directed one scene and then his son took over the rest. | Rubberlegs 8/31/2009 10:10 PM |
