| 8 DIAGRAM POLE FIGHTER.... WOW! (630 views) | AUTHOR / DATE |
| I saw this movie years ago (full screen, dubbed version) and hated it. Watching it in its original form sheds a lot of light. It's a masterpiece. I really can't find the words that describe how awesome this movie really is. This is solid proof that the best kung fu movies ever made were in the 70's and early 80's. Period. | City On Fire 10/1/2008 3:15 AM |
| #2 | This is my all time fave martial arts flick (I own about 200 and have seen easily a couple of hundred more). Gordon Liu's fiercest, most angry performance ever. With the death of Fu Sheng during production, it seems an air of bleakness and depression has seeped into the fabric of the movie, giving it incredible emotional weight. You have to admire a movie that BEGINS with a massacre. | TheDenizen 10/1/2008 9:06 AM |
| #3 | Yes , this is defintely a great, great film one of Gordon Liu's best, which is really saying something, since he has sooo many terrific films. I did not know that Fu Sheng died during the making of this movie. That's really too bad! Imagine all of the great flicks he could have made if he had lived ?!? | RP6082 10/1/2008 10:06 AM |
| #4 | Yep, there are several scenes featuring Fu Sheng in 8 Diagram Pole Fighter, but his character just mysteriously disappears about halfway through the film.
Fu Sheng did get his share of roles, he was a contract player for Shaw Brothers from 1972 or 1973 until his death in 1983. He performed in more than 30 films during his brief career. | TheDenizen 10/1/2008 10:42 AM |
| #5 | Yeah... I'm surprised they didn't pull a "Fearless Hyena 2" and just use a body double to have his character killed off or something. So, let me ask you guys, if Fu Sheng didn't pass away, how was the film supposed to originally turn out? Was Fu Sheng the original star? | City On Fire 10/1/2008 12:49 PM |
| #6 | I could be wrong here, but my understanding is that Fu Sheng WAS originally going to be the brother who trained in the Shaolin Temple for revenge, but this role was switched to Gordon Liu. Sheng was killed in a car accident during filming, so I believe they had to do some "on the fly" re-writing to fit with the scenes they had already shot. | TheDenizen 10/1/2008 1:04 PM |
| #7 | In the film, Fu Sheng goes mad after the Yang massacre but then vanishes without an explanation. | TheDenizen 10/1/2008 1:05 PM |
| #8 | The eight diagram pole fighter is one of my all time
favorites. It just shows that Liu Chia Liang was right on
the money with the fight/action choregraphy. | TF7379 10/1/2008 2:53 PM |
