| A FILM THAT CHANGED HONG KONG ACTION (113 views) | AUTHOR / DATE |
| In a review I wrote - This movie made me love no holds barred bullet ballets and none were better than "A Better Tomorrow"!
This is true. Certainly it was not the first triad movie nor the first to rain bullets. However CYF and Ti Lung were terrific and Woo kept the action ramped up to a new level. It really was, and still is a special movie to me.

| #2 | Definitely unique and brilliant but still nothing beats Commando.
I'm not sure of this but I think this film reinvented the wheel of gunplay. Basically the guns fights were choreographed as fighting styles or something pertinent. Giving the art of the gun a higher significance with the notion that the gun is the extention of man.
Of course, something like that was said in a film called Death Wish but it pertains to male productive organ. | slave 2 (the ressurection) 10/15/2009 6:10 AM |
| #3 | A Better Tomorrow was indeed awesome, though I prefer the sequel. Also, LOL at slave's response. Commando is a cheese classic. | TheDenizen 10/15/2009 10:33 AM |
| #4 | I love the A Better Tomorrow movies. The second one has the best action though. CYF rules and John Woo is a great directer. | django 10/16/2009 12:02 PM |
| #5 | I think the first film is a much better told story, but the second is a tremendous thrill ride. It and "Hard Boiled" have the most exhilarating gun battles I have ever seen. "Bullet in the Head" is my pick for best film overall from John Woo. | Jeffrey Frawley 10/18/2009 8:44 AM |
| #6 | I loved the first two A Better Tomorrow movies, "A Better Tomorrow 3" missed the mark for me though I loved Anita Mui's performance. As Jeffrey stated the first two A Better Tomorrow movies, "Hard boiled", and for me "The Killer" are my John Woo favorites. | Sgt. T 11/1/2009 1:59 PM |
