Hopefully this doesn't get to ugly. I'm just stating a point of view. No such talk of right and wrong or all respect is devoided.

To comment against what was written below my review of this film, the difference in story is that this is an art film, intricate and poetic as to where a film, for example, 5 Venoms isn't. Art films are always complex to a degree in which I can not comprehend. As I said, I don't get art films. The stories keep going all over the place with idle chit-chat and it's impossible to follow. Poetic stuff is too perplexing and is like a foreign language to me unless, of course, I write it myself. Plus should also mention in which I wasn't clear upon that the way art films tend to pace is slow and uselessly. It's just how I feel about it. It's not my thing.

5 Venoms on the other hand is a complex film but not in a way like Crouching. It's complexing pertains to mystery, revelations and plot twists. Difference is it's very coherent. If art aspects exists then it's due the costuming or the cinematography but a film like this lacks, if not non-existent, poetry and intricate verbilization. As far as other kung fu films are concerned, it's usually revenge driven chaos or kung fu school vs. kung fu school sort of stuff. How can you not follow that?

The weird thing is that I get films like Videodrome or Psycho and I enjoy this garbage, thoroughly. The psychology/psychological horror stuff interests me. Of course I'll admit that some of the psychological films can be paced tediously but it different to me. This is how I function. But of course you called insane (I loved it, by the way) so there -- - and I said "I was fat", not the bugs.

I have no quarrel with those who like this film. It's fine, I don't think you're stupid for liking these kind of films. I know I will get viseral, venomous opinions (keyword) to berate my dumb-ass review in the future and I welcome it will loving grace. Simply put, however, nothing will convince me that this film is great and I'll stick my guns ... er swords. :)

... and I hope I didn't say anything bad 'cause I'm unaware of my own offensiveness. It's normal to me. :(

#2 So you didn't enjoy CTHD, no big deal, it's not a crime.

I think the reason it was so popular was because it had some awesome fight choreography (say what you will about the story, but some of the action scenes are incredible) and a couple of babes so guys liked it, but it also had a mushy love story, which girls liked. It became the ideal date movie (extremely high production values helped).

CTHD is one of the few martial arts flicks that has found a significant female audience, which I think has skewed some people's perception of it as an "artsy" film. All the fancy magic and flying swordsman stuff had been part of the genre forever before CTHD.

#3 I totally agree that the fights were fantastic but for me, good fights don't justify a good movie. That's just how I feel. I always favor story, conception and character first and its probably why I didn't like this film as much as most people did. slave 2 (the ressurection)
