| ANOTHER REMAKE (152 views) | AUTHOR / DATE |
| I just read that Cronenberg is talks to remake this 1986 remake of the 1958 classic. He'd always resisted the idea of doing it, but now he wants a chance to update the flick using modern special effects and CGI.
Remaking remakes? Is Hollywood so devoid of ideas that they can only regurgitate stuff we've already seen with flashier digital effects? It saddens me.
Speaking of dumb remakes, I also read today that they are writing a sitcom remake of Three's Company...it's still going to have two girls sharing an apartment with a guy, but for some reason it's going to be set in Washington DC and they are all going to be MEMBERS OF CONGRESS. | #2 | NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
I feel ill, seriously.
The Fly with Vincent Price was perfect. What the remake and any more remakes will be is putrid half - assed crap with inane special effects, zooms in and out - trash.
What was so striking about The Fly was Vincent losing his human - ness. I saw the movie the first time as a little kid and I remember it made me think about not being a human being anymore, as well as scaring me half to death. When I watched it again as an adult I was amazed what good acting was going on as changes ripped away what used to be a man. I don't really think of it as a horror film more of a drama.
Denizen I have no understanding why people do remakes. There are so many good writers struggling to get their work noticed and these brain dead people and studios just want to do what they did before because it made money.
BTW there is supposed to be a remake of the Wizard of Oz to start filming within the year.

| #3 | Egad! That's what happens when I post on the fly! ;) I have Vincent Price with the fly head!
Let me start once again.
'The Fly' was the 1957 - 1958 film about a scientist working on teleportation and experimenting on himself. He inadvertently had a partner - a fly went with him. He split and there was the human body with a big awkward fly head. The other was a fly with the human head. The fly was
Andre Delambre. He did put in a good performance, all things considered. Vincent was great at putting into words not just the obvious er.. problems but about losing one's human - ness. It was thought provoking. It's a very good movie.
Still no reason to remake it yet again! The original is perfect!
I'm sincerely sorry for posting wrong information. Usually I am quite certain before I send any message but I was in a hurry and it shows!

| #4 | I think that Cronenberg's remake of The Fly is the best version of the movie. I am not sure on a new remake. If Cronenberg does the new remake also I have some hope that it will be a good movie. | django 9/26/2009 2:37 PM |
| #5 | David Cronenberg had the ideal cast and very creditable special effects in the 1986 remake. Obviously he is still at the top of his game, but I doubt he could find such well-cast actors this time around.
Jeff Goldblum: Perfect for the part at the time. He would be wrong now, and no one as appropriate comes to mind.
Geena Davis: Very good, but it is not beyond belief someone else could do at least as well.
John Diehl: He's probably a bit too old for the part now, but I don't know who could do better. | Jeffrey Frawley 9/27/2009 6:05 AM |

| #7 | All horror movie remakes suck. Even if I've never seen them, I know they will be bad.
BUT THIS..... Ugh! | slave 2 (the ressurection) 9/29/2009 8:35 PM |
| #8 | Did anyone see The Fly II, the follow up to the Cronenberg/Goldblum masterpiece? Great cast; John Getz was the only actor to return from the first movie. Eric Stoltz and Daphne Zuniga as the Son of the Fly and his girl friend chased by the military (or something...).
Anyway, while a remake of the '86 version is completely unnecessary, but hopefully won't be worse than the '89 cash-in, er I mean, sequel. | Lewis 10/1/2009 9:43 PM |
| #9 | I actually own the follow up (cash in). Its not as good as the first one but its still in my opinion a good movie. At least I really enjoy it. | django 10/2/2009 8:21 AM |
| #10 | "The Fly II" is a tolerable conventional creature flick, with none of "The Fly"'s wit, excellent performances or visual flash. | Jeffrey Frawley 10/5/2009 1:35 PM |
