| JET LI'S BEST MOVIE? (1447 views) | AUTHOR / DATE |
| This was one of the first Jet Li films I watched, before he started making all his Hollywood crap, and I'm not sure he's ever made anything that tops it. Lots of action, a little romance so your girl will watch it with you, and lots of awesome fights, and excellent training sequences. Finally it has been released on a DVD deserving of a movie of this caliber. Danny The Dog was probably Jet's best recent movie. Can anyone think of a better overall Jet Li film? | YoMama 9/22/2008 8:21 PM |
| #2 | To me Fist Of Legend and Tai Chi Master are his best films. I cannot put one above the other. Both of them are the very best of his career and part of the best that Hong Kong has ever released. | DongFangSue 9/23/2008 12:26 AM |
| #3 | Kiss of the Dragon and Danny The Dog are his best films. If I want to see a guy fly around on wires, I'll go to the circus. Bruce Lee had the right idea. | City On Fire 9/23/2008 2:43 AM |
| #4 | Fearless than fist of legend. Aside of all his hollywood garbage most of his films are A+ material. Once Upon Time in China and Tai Chi Master are very well deserving. | jincheng 9/23/2008 5:58 AM |
| #5 | Hands down, Fist Of Legend is absolutely his best achievement but Once Upon A Time In China is just about tied for greatest Jet Li movie. The choreography and overall specticle of both of these films has not been topped. Tai Chi Master had too much ridiculous line-flying but still seems to be a fan favorite. Fearless on the other hand recycled too much old school choreography and themes. It was well done but viciously over-rated. His best acting performances were probably Danny The Dog and Hero. | Bastard Ronin 9/23/2008 6:22 AM |
| #6 | City On Fire, I don't get why you consider Fist Of Legend to be so wire-heavy!? It was specifically made with minimal use of wires. It was actually somewhat reminiscent of "Black Belt" with its focus on simple karate-style moves for much of the film. | Choco 9/23/2008 9:19 AM |
| #7 | Agree with Choco--FOL is not wire heavy. It was shot purposely on sets with low and visible ceilings so that Jet Li and his opponents would be fighting toe-to-toe. Look at the fight scenes in the Japanese schools (beginning and end) to see it.
FOL is his best action film, while HERO and FEARLESS are his best acting performances. Disagree with Bastard Ronin--FEARLESS was not overrated. The Director's Cut version is a masterpiece. The edited and cut American theatrical version is not worth watching. | WuxiaFan 9/23/2008 11:39 AM |
| #8 | WuxiaFan, I TOTALLY agree! Thank you! My buddy over at City On Fire needs to get with the program and share the love! | Choco 9/23/2008 11:41 AM |
| #9 | Choco, i was more commenting on Jet Li's films as a whole (not FOL - even though this topic is FOL-based. So, my bad). However, FOL is ruined by ridiculous sped-up fight scenes... but I think it's more of Yuen Woo Ping's choreography than anything. I've always been a Corey Yuen guy. | City On Fire 9/24/2008 2:43 AM |
| #10 | But there's such a cool variety of styles on display here, how can you deny the love homey!? Plus, I'm unclear as to which parts were sped up here, to be honest. This is Jet Li we're talking about, the guy's freaking fast. | Choco 9/24/2008 8:05 AM |
| #11 | I would tell you what parts exactly... but, uh, kinda gave me DVD away. =) | City On Fire 9/25/2008 1:21 AM |
| #12 | In my opinion of all the movies that i have seen with Jet Li in them i'd rank Fearless number 1 with the Kung Fu Cult Master dead second and if a sequel would have been released this 2 part movie would have been fantastic. Fearless is a once in a lifetime classic movie that comes around and captures not only the essence of the story but it's historical value puts it on another level and it took Jet Li back to his wu-shu training. | djj2020 9/25/2008 7:23 AM |
| #13 | I thought Fearless was terrific, but Fist Of Legend has this angry ferocity that is just so raw. They're apples and oranges I guess...but I'll never stop trying to convince City On Fire that Fist Of Legend is pimp-diddly-umptious. | Choco 9/25/2008 8:06 AM |
| #14 | OK, now check this out. Since we can't agree on FOL being better than Fearless, let me ask this. Which is better, FOL or Drunken Master 2? | YoMama 10/14/2008 4:54 AM |
| #15 | Oh man, I'm not even gonna' touch that one! That's impossible. | Choco 10/14/2008 10:17 AM |
| #16 | Drunken Master 2. No contest. Heck, the first Drunken Master is better than FOL. In fact, Dance of the Drunken Mantis is better than FOL! | City On Fire 10/14/2008 10:44 AM |
| #17 | Wow, I think I liked them both equally, but to me FOL is more memorable. | YoMama 10/14/2008 2:30 PM |
| #18 | City On Fire, my friend Fist Of Legend for me is Jet Li's best with Once Upon A Time In China, and Fearless The Director's cut tied for a close second. This is taking into account all facets of these films including plot and supporting actors. I can see why you would choose Drunken Master 2 over FOL, this is probably Jackie Chans best over all film from acting to fighting! Dude The first Drunken Master and Dance Of The Drunken Mantis are not better than FOL. These are two great films starring Yuen Woo Ping's father Old Dirty, great action, great comedy, and great choreography, but over all not better than Fist Of Legend! Drunken Master 2 and Fist Of Legend are about equal in my opinion for Two All-Time greats like Jet and Jackie! | Sgt. T 10/14/2008 11:06 PM |
| #19 | I think me and Sgt. T are awesome. Let's have a little FOL-Bloodsport double feature :-) | YoMama 10/14/2008 11:17 PM |
| #20 | This conversation morphed from "is Fist Of Legend Jet Li's best" to "what is better FOL or DM2"? I must piggyback on Bastard Ronin's comment that FOL and Once Upon a Time in China are Jets best (tied). You could choose either as his best and I couldn't argue. I think Fearless and Once Upon a Time in China 2 are right up there as well. And there's no way I could choose between FOL, Once Upon a Time in China or DM2 because I feel those movies are near perfect but are as different as Jet and Jackie are. | William Giordanella 10/17/2008 8:34 PM |
| #21 | FOL is #1 IMO, Fearless is more like #1a (very close). Next are OUATIC, Fong Sai Yuk, and Hero. Unfortunately for the masses, The Forbidden Kingdom does not make my list for obvious reasons. I apologize in advance :-)
I agree with Wuxiafan's assessment. Jet Li is a far better dramatic actor in his recent releases than in the past. | AA19519 11/16/2008 3:46 PM |
| #22 | You know what drives me nuts? Its Jet's English voice. He needs to be a villain in his English language films because his voice is so messed up, it alone doesn't make him very likable. I agree his dramatic acting has improved, but in FOL, it was as good as in anything else he's done. He actually had a challenging role due to the romantic subplot with the Japanese girl. | YoMama 11/16/2008 7:44 PM |
