CHOCOLATE- IS SHE REALLY THE FEMALE TONY JAA? (298 views)AUTHOR /

Don't get me wrong..I think that with some more time and experience under her belt Jija or whatever they are calling her...might be up to the the superstar status of Cynthia Rothrock, Michelle Yeoh(80's versions folks) I think this because the majority of her fight scenes consisted of I hit you, I knock you down,I hit you, you hit the ground..and so on...I didn't feel like she was challenged in the movie like Jaa has been in his movies. True; Jaa has had those moments but they were few in his movies. In Tom Yom Goong (the protector in the states..ugh! Wasn't that a Jackie Chan movie in the 80's..get original!)Can she do the almost 20 min long shot(no cut aways!) of Jaa going up the hotel levels and then face an opponent that tests her limits? We'll see...but what do you guys think..is she the next coming in action stars? Kelly Hu has a movie called the Tournament that's supposed to be great. Are we seeing a renassiance of female action stars?EH21620

#2 I'd argue that female stars have never really gone out of style, even if there hasn't been a "big" female action name recently (Zhang Ziyi is probably the closest thing). But movies like Azumi, Machine Girl, Princess Blade, etc have kept female-led action alive the last few years. Jeeja has some promise, for sure, it'll be interesting to see where her career leads.

Oh, and for the record, the scene in Tom Yum Goong with Jaa fighting his way up the stairs without any edits is just under 4 minutes long, not 20. ;)

#3 I love female heroines. I thought Jeeja was awesome in Chocolate. As for being the "female" Tony Jaa, she doesn't have the experience or maturity yet. For a debut film, she gave a great performance in Chocolate. I look forward to her next film.WuxiaFan

#4 I have to disagree. Jaa needed that 7 foot tall Scottish dude to challenge him. For Jeeja, a comparative fight would be normal looking 6ft man. That last fight was magnificent. I found Chocolate to be just as impressive as Ong Bak.YoMama

#5 Nathan Jones is Australian, not Scottish, for those keeping score at home.TheDenizen

#8 Comparing a newcomer to last season's "it" fighter is kind of putting the cart before the horse. The thing is that considering her age and relative inexperience in front of a camera, our little Jeeja shows an insane amount of promise.

Her skill is absolutely undeniable. What I think most people are missing in her fight scenes is that she is playing a borderline catatonic. She's kicking people's asses yet still performing her incredible action sequences relatively straight-faced. That in and of itself is an accomplishment in my book, and she's only going to get smoother. Give her some time.

I'm certain that there will be a backlash within her next few releases, but give her some time to hone her camera skills. I'm thinking she's going to blow everyone's mind even more.

#9 Thanks to all of you (and the time corrections)(theDenizen) for your timely responses! I have faith that she will accomplish much or have a burn-out like Jaa..lol...all in all it'll still be fun to watch!EH21620

#10 I'd say Jaa's "burnout" is just a temporary blip. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until he does something completely off the wall.TheDenizen

#11 That is the first thing I taught to myself "are they making her to be a female Tony Jaa?" And the scenes that she is watching Ong Bak did not help in taking that taught out of my head. But I think that a part from being a nice looking girl of course her fighting style is different enough from Tony that after a few more movies the comparisons will stop. I don’t now what kind of money Chocolate did in Thailand but I hope it was enough that we will see Miss Jeeja on the screen pretty soon.Bless01
