#2 Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, of course, have had the greatest international impact, and thus, its hard to argue with any claims made on their behalf as "greatest contributors to Kung Fu". That said, - though not a martial artist himself - Run Run Shaw has to be recognized as the greatest of all contributors, as without him, the martial arts genre might not exist. Also of vital importance is Lau Kar Leung, director of many of Shaw's most respected films.PK1840

#3 Jackie Chan is the greatest post-Lee popularizer of Asian action - although what he does is hardly orthodox kungfu. That's fine, because Bruce Lee's Jeet Kun Do was a syncretist blend of whatever worked, rather than rote repetition of a time honored form. Jackie Chan essentially took his Peking Opera training and made it accessible to the whole world.

Lau Kar Leung/Liu Chia-liang's contribution to martial arts cinema is the demonstration of Hung Gar and other forms onscreen less altered for the screen than had been seen before.

#4 jackie chan and jet li of course tony jaa has the potential to take the torch from these guys he needs more movies and exposure though i consider chuck norris part of the same era as bruce lee jackie chan was relatively new when bruce lee came out. but overall i say jackie chan. good point with run run shaw he has to be up there also and gordon liu as well with a host of others.AR17235

#5 For me Jet Li's performances are more captivating and commands the attention of all audiences with his style and power. Jackie is special in his own way, however, I believe Jet Li is a touch more magical with his moves giving you different shapes whilst Jackie is one dimensional comedy. Also mention must be made of Hwang Jang Lee who made a great contribution to the genre after Lee's passing.Noel 'Bravo' Francis

#6 You make very good points about Li's and Chan's capabilities. I'm not sure I could make a convincing defense of Hwang Jang Lee's breadth, but his contributions to the genre are invaluable. When one has seen a lot of his bootwork Tan Tao Liang seems no more than good, and John Liu not nearly that. His speed, elevation and power were truly superior.Jeffrey Frawley

#7 Looking over some of my collection you can't deny the genius of yuen woo ping. Hollywood has taken note of the capabilities of him but the thing I find really irritating is the fact that it takes years before Hollywood sits up and takes notice of how good these people are. You only have to look at Jackie Chan and the ignorance of studios to take a risk on him while he was in his prime. Digressed a little from the original question there but there you go!

Yuen Biao kicks ass too, just watch anything with kung fu brothers sammo and jackie!

#9 No way is Jackie Chan or any traditional kung fu flavor one dimensional. Its more multidimensional as wushu has wider more simplified hand movements vs. traditional hand shapes of Bak Mei, Wing Chun, Choy Lee Fut, preying mantis and other styles that do not translate into wushu. Lots of people will argue that wushu forms are too flimsy and pretty lacking power structure and coolness of intricate hand movements the OG movies used to have. I remember years ago I ask Ip Choi Nam a Hong Kong stuntman why the movies are more wushu and less like the 70s movies. His answer was...people aren't that creative anymore and the angles to make the intricate hand motions look cool is a lot of work. He also noted that the new generation of stuntmen/actors cannot remember that many moves ahead for one shot.Chinesehero
