| I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A SERIOUS DISCUSSION OF IRON FISTED MONK (193 views) | AUTHOR / DATE |
| This movie is not the absolute best or worst of anything. But many people have watched it over the years and have some definite opinions. Some of my questions and comments would be considered "spoilers" so does that make the idea of a fully open discussion of the film a good idea or a bad one? | Cinema! 3/20/2009 9:57 PM |
| #2 | Rock on, Cinema! As long as people are warned of spoilers, let's do it. :) | Choco 3/21/2009 9:02 AM |
| #3 | Greetings To All ~ I would like to do something a bit different than the usual discussion. This film seems to have a number of ethical considerations, and evokes strong emotions and comments from viewers. Those issues are virtually lost because of the high level fights with and directed by Sammo Hung.
I would like to explore some of these issues where everyone can speak freely and not worry about spoilers and I think this is the perfect place. Instead of a few words I'm sure some people have a lot more to say and hopefully we can engage in some extended discussion. Two things:
1) ASSUME SPOILERS FOR ENTIRE FILM. If you don't want to know just make your comment and read no further.
2) BE NICE. There are a number of ways to express opinions without being mean. Use them. :)
LET THE DISCUSSION BEGIN!

| #4 | This was Sammo's first time at directing. Clearly in some places he was struggling. By taking over every major department did he over-extend himself?
I believe the rough first half had more to do with Sammo simply never being completely in charge of directing before. It can be a difficult role. Could this movie have been made better with another action director? | Cinema! 3/21/2009 1:22 PM |
| #5 | Why was it necessary to throw in not one but two graphic rape scenes, one with more than a bit of nudity? Did Sammo think that would get more viewers? Did it spoil the film? Did it help the film?
I won't share the reason behind these posts until some other folks make their ideas and feelings known! | Cinema! 3/28/2009 11:10 AM |
