 SHOULD HE OR SHOULDN'T HE? (189 views)AUTHOR /

When Jackie made this movie in the US it was shot in English. When it didn't do well it was sent back to Hong Kong and dubbed with English subtitles. The problem with people's mouths moving with the dialogue was different but still present. The director, Clause supposedly made a lot of promises to Jackie and told him he would make him the next Bruce Lee. Unfortunately Clause didn't know much about Jackie's style and talents and tried to make him into a one - two punch you're dead star and it just didn't work well. Jackie did get to do a bit of humour and all things considered I think he should have made the movie and that it did garner him some fans. So folks, what do you think?Cinema!

#2 It was understandable that they wanted to try and translate Jackie's stardom in Asia to North America, they just chose a pretty terrible film and a weak director to do it. It was also a little too soon, everyone still wanted the next Bruce Lee, instead of the next better thing. Jackie suffered for being different from the expectation.TheDenizen

#3 Better introduction than his second attempt: The Cannonball Run. BCB’s on par with Jet Li's 1989, "The Master" (Wong Fei Hong '92).

Battle Creek Brawl, however, distinguishes itself with the best use of 1970's roller derby in a film set in the 1930's.

#4 Lewis you are definitely correct about Jackie's second try in America but I won't even mention the name. There aren't many things that really disgust me but pretty much everything in that movie was despicable and insulting, one way or another. I think "The Master" wasn't quite as bad but then I haven't watched it in a long time. Perhaps better not too.

From the category of "What were they thinking" ..... why did Clause decide to have a "roller derby"??? Jackie couldn't even skate nor could most of the actors. Jackie only fared a little better than most probably because he could do so many other things and had been told to do things before with no experience. Still it leaves me wondering what was Clause thinking.
