| DO WE WANT ACTORS TO BE THE SAME IN EVERY FILM? (193 views) | AUTHOR / DATE |
| Sometimes it seems as though people expect an actor/martial artist to do the same type of movies they did when fans first saw them, the type of roles they are used to seeing. Is that really fair to the actor? | Cinema! 9/24/2008 5:21 PM |
| #2 | No, it's not fair. Plus, as people get older (Jackie Chan and Jet Li), you can't expect the same types of physical stunts from them. They're in their 40s! And both have had serious injuries. We should be fortunate that we get to see them on film at all at this stage of their life. Remember, that if Bruce Lee had lived his full life, he would have shifted away from pure hard hitting martial arts films as well! | YoMama 9/24/2008 6:20 PM |
| #3 | It's not fair but I really love the characters played by Jackie Chan. It really never gets old. I also think in Rush Hour his role was sort of different and he was funny. Not as good as in the Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, but good. Maybe that's just what roles they like playing. I mean I'm sure they're famous enough to get any role they want and they would have if they really want to. | samurai_goemon 9/24/2008 8:44 PM |

| #5 | Jackie has complained that he always has to be a good guy, usually a cop and that audiences won't accept him if he changes roles. I really don't think that's true. There were a lot of fans who liked Rob B Hood and he was a "bad guy". But the years and injuries have taken a toll. On his web site Jackie said he could no longer do a standing flip but had to run or hop to do them now. That's part of life as a stuntman and action hero. I enjoyed Crime Story very much and there was very little in the way of stunts. Jackie doesn't need to jump off an eleven story building to win over his audience! Fans can be a pain sometimes and I have read and heard guys mocking Jackie for not being able to do the same things he did 20 years ago. Those people will discover things change. He will always be considered one of the very best! Let him do the roles he chooses and not ones someone tells him he needs to make. | Cinema! 9/27/2008 1:35 AM |
| #6 | most actors are not good enought to disapear into the roles they play, with the result that they are very similar in most of the movies in which they apperar. while Jackie Chan is a much better actor than he is generally given credit for, a Jackie Chan movie will always be a Jackie Chan movie, whatever the content. | chanfan 9/28/2008 8:19 AM |
