YOU DON'T SEE MOVIES LIKE THIS ANYMORE (152 views)

The Shaw studio pulled off this sweeping epic without the use of cg or too many wires. And when the wires are used it is only to show the power of the actors and is believable. It is a little annoying to see the wires in several places but this was 1969. The film only worked because everyone, from cast to stuntmen put in their best efforts. I would have liked to see more of Ti Lung. Someone mentioned doing a remake. I don't think it would have the same intensity because so much would be done now with computers.
I definitely agree that having real "in camera" effects is always going to be more effective than CGI. Even if you're not particularly a fan of wirework, you can't deny that it's more impressive to watch someone physically perform something rather than watch basically a drawing of someone performing something! :)
Any late 60s/early 70s CHANG CHEH flick is the sh*t in my opinion. I really love the string of bloody bell-bottom fury movies he pumped out. What a filmography.
