| Gamera(1965) was the first Gamera film that I saw. It was also the first episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 that I watched. I think Joel and the Bots had fun riffing on the movie. The friendship between Kenny/Toschio and Gamera was appealing to me. Kenny/Toschio was an introvert with no friends and a fondness for turtles.
There's a US English dubbed "Americanized" version of Gamera. I found a budget DVD copy at Borders. It has footage of English speaking actors spliced in.
There's a second US English dub from King Features with no insert shots of US actors.
I own region 1/NTSC DVD copies of the Gamera movies from the 1990's. The US distributor was nice enough to keep the Japanese audio track as an option. Gamera the Brave looks like it's worth seeing. |
