| ONE OF MY ALL TIME GREAT MARTIAL ARTS MOVIES! (372 views) | AUTHOR / DATE |
| Actually it is one of my all time favorite movies period! The film could have become just another training and revenge story. But not with the acting debut of Sifu Lau and the absolutely phenomenal Hsiao Ho! What can I say I love! this movie! Though I have seen it....well let's just say more than ten times it still amazes me! There are training and fighting scenes in Mad Monkey I have never seen before! I still laugh when Little Monkey goes to the brothel - from "Your mother" until Chao realizes who he really has as a guest. And there follows some of the most extraordinary fighting, acrobatics and stunts to be filmed! Anyone agree? | Cinema! 9/23/2008 10:30 PM |
| #2 | Definitely one of the best Shaw movies made. No question about that. | YoMama 9/24/2008 1:01 AM |
| #3 | Yes! It's insane that Hsiao Ho's star didn't rise much higher based on his performance here. Just amazing. | Choco 9/24/2008 8:03 AM |
| #4 | Yes , this is one my All-time favs too! I agree I thought Hsiao Ho would have been a big star after this film. I recently bought the re-mastered version, i luv it so much. I was really young when I first saw it & it was one of the films that masde me fall in luv Fu films. | RP6082 9/25/2008 5:05 AM |
| #5 | A masterpiece. One of three Lau Kar Leung-directed films that I see as the absolute pinnacle of martial arts filmmaking (the other two are Eight Diagram Pole Fighter and Heroes of the East). Hsiao Ho was a charismatic lead and it's too bad he didn't get more starring roles. | TheDenizen 9/25/2008 9:48 AM |

| #7 | It's good to know there are so many people who can see this is a masterpiece! So why was Hsiao Ho NOT recognized as a physical genius? His moves were mind boggling! He can act as well and has a gift for humour. He signed on with SB after MMKF was a major hit. He stayed with SB until (don't quote me)1985? or so. Lau Kar Leung and Gordon Lui also left about the same time. Some folks don't know that the Manchurian Soldier in Drunken Master II is Sifu Lau and he directed it as well. So again I have to wonder why Hsiao Ho was not swamped with offers? Was it just timing? Did the over all decrease in people loving to watch kung fu just stop watching? Kara Hui ended up in tv as did Donnie Yen. Still Hsiao Ho seemed to fade away. The last I knew he had recently (last year or two) signed to work with Lau on a new film but Lau was ill and I don't know how things worked out. Does anyone know? I realize it has been years since MMKF but I bet he could still do amazing things! | Cinema! 1/20/2009 2:33 PM |
| #8 | Another question about this movie ~ IMO This is the absolute best film where there is a Sifu and student training. Hsiao Ho's strength, agility, power, grace, skill - I have never seen anyone come close, and I think they make the perfect Sifu and student!
anyone have an opinion? | Cinema! 2/23/2009 1:17 PM |
| #9 | I have nothing bad to say about this film. It totally blew my mind the first time I saw it on a barely-visible crappy VHS bootleg, and with each re-watch it just gets better. | Choco 2/23/2009 2:28 PM |
