The main actress, Reiko Ike, is quite charismatic in her role of an ex-gambler turned into a yakuza. It's a shame that a lot of the screen time is not devoted to her.
The cinematography is beautiful and the music is the kind you would hear in a Tarantino film.
Thriller: A Cruel Picture (product link) Thriller / Crime The directing is sloppy, the camerawork is amateur and the actors are bad, but the movie is never dull. There is something compelling in each of the three acts.
I was afraid that the explicit sexual content would be misplaced and unnecessary, but that is not the case. It does add impact to the heroine's poor situation and all she have to endure.
Overall, it's not the best revenge film, but a good one. I'm glad I saw that one.
Unimaginative directing, bad editing, inappropriate music, boring script... I still can't believe I paid to see that movie, which was supposed to attract western audiences to Korean films. With a story so confusing (except if you have studied Korean history), it's not surprising that I never heard of it before purchasing it.
Of course, not everything is bad in it. The acting is ok and the costumes and the settings are great. But does that make a good movie?
