August Underground's Mordum (product link) Horror / Thriller Recently in horror films that make it into the theaters the term torture porn has come up. It was mainly in response to the film "Hostel", and also the "Saw" films. Now in regards to those films I don't think it's suiting, since they have an actual story behind them. "Mordum" on the other hand is complete Torture Porn. There is no way around it. There's no real story to be found. No social commentary. No real entertainment value. If you want to see people getting tortured then see it. That's all you get. I gave it 1/2 'cause it had more gore than the first one, and wasn't as boring.
The Card Player (product link) Thriller / Mystery Probably not Dario's best, but I still enjoyed it. The death scenes were a bit lacking though. The story was pretty good, there wasn't much suspense to it till the end though. It kind of creeps up on you. I'd suggest giving it a view.
Bone Sickness [Extended Directors Cut] (product link) Horror / Thriller This film didn't have as much gore as I was expecting. The plot was kind of lacking as well. Very much a b-movie that isn't too enjoyable. Though if you liked "Dark Harvest" you'll enjoy it.
Blacula (product link) Action/Adventure / Horror Now this is far from the best film in the world, but I found it to be quite entertaining. The back story's quite lame, but the rest of the movie had moments of comedy (not all intended) that kept me watching. At points it seems to take itself a bit seriously, but those points are rare.
Bride Of Re-Animator (product link) Horror / Dark Comedy Out of the three "Re-Animator" films I think this was the weakest one. The story didn't seem as coherent as the other two. I was quite disappointed with it. Pick up the first one before you even think of seeing this one if you plan on it.
American Gothic (product link) Horror I don't know what I was expecting when I viewed this film. I figured it was a horror film, since I'd seen it in the horror section at stores. I'm not sure that it can be put into that genre. It seemed like a music video that never ended. I actually had to turn it off 'cause I was so bored.
Dawn Of The Dead [1978] (product link) Horror / Thriller This is probably one of my favorite films in the zombie genre, though out of the series "Day Of The Dead" was my favorite. If you haven't seen this film and enjoy zombie films, then you should see this. This is not a film for weak stomachs though.
August Underground [SE 2-Disc Set] (product link) Horror / Thriller The idea of the snuff film has been thrown around so many times, and has failed almost every time. While the film does give the sense of a snuff film, that's about all it does. I don't think I could really recommend seeing this film.
Three...Extremes: Three Stories (product link) Dark Comedy / Horror I enjoyed all three films in this collection. Though "Dumplings" was a bit hard to stomach it was still a good film. "Cut" was a little more traditional horror, though the ending was a bit disappointing. "Box" was my favorite out of the three. "Box" had the best atmosphere about it, almost a constant state of dread seemed to hover around it.
Audition (product link) Horror / Art This film was a little too slow for my tastes. I'm use to the other films of Takashi Miike that are more action packed and faster paced. The ending was quite creepy like most of Takashi Miike's other films.
Aftermath / Genesis [DOUBLE FEATURE] [BANNED GRAPHIC COVER] (product link) Horror / Thriller These short films are put together well. "Aftermath" is a little hard on the eyes, but "Genesis" presents a very poetic vision. I liked "Genesis" out of the three. "The Awakening" was a little disappointing compared to the other two. The DVD is probably Unearthed Films' best so far.
