Ugh, I hate to say it but I liked this movie [holds head in dire shame] because of the conception of mental hypnosis, thought cunsumption and the action was eh. But I can't disagree, this was awful.
Goose Boxer (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I have watched some bad martial art comedies in my day, and this is one of them. This qualifies as a complete zero, but upon retrospect the ending made me laugh.

I should kick myself for liking this a bit more than you did. It's unreasonably stupid, but somewhat entertaining.
Hulk (product link) Action/Adventure / Thriller First off, the Hulk is a comic book character. It is hard to please everyone when you create a film based on comic characters! With that said, this movie was terrible! Eric Bana was horrible as Bruce Banner. Nick Nolte must have needed a check bad. The CGI Hulk however was entertaining and worth one star.
The main thing wrong with this film is that, other than the army, all the Hulk fought was gamma powered dogs and Nick Nolte transformed into a vengeful cloud creature! Bad movie, bad acting, bad directing, but good comic book character.

I made use of this joke before and I'll do it again. The Hulk in this movie looks like Sheik on steriods. Da-da che. Hate telling the same joke twice. urgh. Oh this movie was vomit! :)
Hot Potato (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts Beautiful cinematography! That's worth one star in this uninspired comedy/spoof featuring Jim Kelly as he reprises his Black Belt Jones character.
Recommended only for having a complete collection of Jim Kelly films!
The Absurd Brave (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I was very disappointed after viewing this 1969 Taiwanese made wuxia classic. The only redeeming features for me in this film were the colorful heroes and villains. The swordplay choreography was very basic and slow. I guess I've been spoiled by such wuxia classics as "The One Armed Swordsman" and "The Golden Swallow". The acting was okay but it was marred by the bad swordplay and inconsistent plot. The end was very disappointing due to the fact that a lot of plot threads were left dangling. It feels like a sequel or sequels were created to resolve the issues from the first film, and to continue the adventures of the main Hero, "Master Ou". Overall this was a bad film. I can only recommend this to the most hardcore old school wuxia fans, and only as an oddity!
Hand Of Death [1973] [5-Movie Set] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I viewed this film in my favorite grindhouse theatre as a kid under the title "Karate Killer". This film could have been a lot better, but it did introduce us to Jason Pai Pao. There are some disturbing scenes, such as the death of an infant and child torture, which were not necessary to the plot.
The plot is a basic one in which the Manchu Prince with his killer pigtail arrives in British-controlled Hong Kong in order to kill some escaped rebels. Unfortunately he runs into Jason Pai Pao. The fighting is okay and the villainous Prince steals the show. This is only for hardcore old school viewers, and childhood memories.

flat-out the worst kung fu film ever made and I've seen Crouching Tiger. Oops. :(
Golden Needles (product link) Action/Adventure / Crime Before Viagra there was an ancient Chinese statue that displayed certain acupuncture points that could renew sexual vigor and youth! Joe Don Baker is soon paid to locate and find said statue, thus setting off the chase from Hong Kong to Los Angeles.
Baker also gets minor assistance from Jim Kelly and Chinese cop Frances Fong. Fong wants to recover the statue for her government. Look for Burgess Meredith as the bad guy who wants the statue at all costs. Yes, Burgess Meredith!
This film was done by Weintraub and Clouse, who also brought us "Enter The Dragon" and "Black Belt Jones". It's not a bad action film, it has that seventies feel to it, and you get to see Joe Don Baker street fight against martial arts henchmen.
If you like seventies American-made action movies, then this one is for you!
Ringing Sword (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I probably would have given this 1969 Taiwanese wuxia feature two and a half stars for the colorful characters, but it dragged in places. This film was okay if you keep in mind the time it was made, but there are a lot better wuxia classics out there. This is for hardcore wuxia fans only.
Super Kung Fu Kid (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This movie is highlighted by good, old school action. Do not expect fast-paced fighting with great choreography! This is a seventies flick that was shown in grindhouse movie theatres as "Karado The Hong Kong Cat". The talents of Cheung Lik are great as he fights gang boss Bolo Yeung and brother-gone-bad James Nam. The dubbing and dialogue [on the English version I watched] are beyond horrible!
For overall action 3 stars, for everything else zero stars! Worth fast-forwarding to the fight scenes for old school action lovers.
The Thunderbolt Fist (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is one of those Shaw Brothers movies that qualifies as being so bad, that it is good. You have the Japanese versus Chinese theme; you have the maimed hero theme in which he has the use of one arm; and you have a bizarre blood-spattered ending. For good measure let's add almost the whole cast of "King Boxer", minus Lo Lieh. Put it all together with the average fighting, James Nam's hammy portrayal as a Japanese karate expert, with the beat-to-crap hero, and you may laugh as hard as I did!
Nine Demons (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I grudgingly give this film two stars for Chiang Sheng and some of the fight sequences. Shaw Brothers has taken chances and put out many strange and different films that have become cult favorites like "Super Infra Man" or the "Mighty Peking Man". This film clearly misses the mark plot wise and in my opinion was plain bad. This is not a Venoms film but may be worth a look to you on the premise that it is so bad it might be funny. Beware!

The special effects and several of the performances are just bad. This isn't the martial gallantry of Chang Cheh's early period of the thrilling machismo of his next, but the unfocused strangeness of his last..
Maniac Cop 2 (product link) Thriller / Horror Not a bad low budget horror flick, but it could have been better. After Robert "The Face" Z'Dar's apparent demise in "Maniac Cop", our hero Bruce Campbell is cleared of charges but must first meet with beautiful police psychologist Claudia Christian in order to be put back on active duty.
Enter subplot of a serial killer that targets strippers. Police Lieutenant Robert Davi however is on the case. Guess what? Robert Z'Dar is not dead! He returns and gets help from the serial killer to complete his agenda of revenge on the men who framed and disfigured the one-time super cop! Only Robert Davi can put the pieces together to stop the maniac cop.
For me it was slow and the only time it was interesting was when Robert Z'Dar was onscreen. Truthfully, besides Z'Dar, the only other interesting character was Robert Davi. Claudia Christian did look nice!
Dr. Wai In The Scripture With No Words (product link) Martial Arts / Fantasy What can I say? I'm a big Jet Li fan, and I love the "Indiana Jones" movies. With that said, enter Jet Li Jones! This adventure is a story within a story as Jet Li and his writing staff cobble together a weekly or monthly adventure of the great Dr. Wai!
During this, Jet is going through a messy divorce with Rosamund Kwan. The twist is that Jet and company let current events reflect in the story. The movie direction is a bit cheesy and uneven but overall it has a laugh or two! Recommended only for die hard Jet Li fans!

probably would of gone to zero stars but I guess this has some nice stuff. or whatever
Black Belt Jones 2 (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Jim Kelly stars as an insurance investigator hired to find a stolen diamond. During his investigation he clashes with Tan Tao Liang, the number one henchman of Chan Sing. The only reason Tan works for Chan Sing is because he is in love with one of Chan's women. Ultimately we watch Kelly battle Chan Sing as Tan Tao Liang finally rebels against his boss. Look for Bolo Yeung and Lee Hoi San as more of Chan's fighting henchmen!
Obviously this film has nothing to do with "Black Belt Jones". Jim Kelly is portraying an entirely different character. This film is cheesy, but it kept my interest watching Kelly fight against Tan Tao Liang and Chan Sing. The fight scenes are okay as you watch the taller Kelly against all the familiar HK faces. Recommended only for hardcore fans of both Kelly and Tan Tao Liang!
Bruce Li: The Invincible (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Not the best Bruce Li (Ho Chung-Tao) film, but one that I would call unique cheese. This feature falls into the category of being so bad that it is funny. Chan Wai Man uses his martial arts skills for evil purposes. After being forgiven by his master (Bolo Yeung in a wig and beard), he starts fresh in Malaysia.
Old habits die hard as Cheung-Lik's cousin is kidnapped by Chan Wai Man and his gang. After losing a fight to Chan Wai Man, Cheung-Lik sends for help in the form of Bruce Li and Chan Sing. The action begins as the three fight to end Chan Wai man's evil ways.
Again, a strange film, especially the fight with the kung fu apes! If you like Bruce Li and cheese, this film is for you!
Fearless Dragon (product link) Martial Arts / Comedy Considering the cast, this film fell short of expectations. Leung Kar Yan and Phillip Ko have done much better. Add Wang Lung Wei and you should have a good martial arts flick. However, too much comedy was put in the script for actors whom we generally see in dramatic action roles. It was interesting to see Leung Kar Yan and Phillip Ko in comedic roles, but it just did not work with this script. The grand finale at the end with Wang Lung Wei was the best part of the film! If you like kung fu comedies, this is worth a look.
The Angry Guest (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure A sequel to the much better Chang Cheh-directed "Duel Of Fists", starring the team supreme of David Chiang and Ti Lung. In this feature our heroes, who are brothers in the film, are blackmailed by mob boss Chang Che, in order to get them to work for him. Yes, Chang Che makes a cameo as the head of a big criminal organization in Japan.
Yasuaki Kurata, making his screen debut, is Chang Cheh's number one enforcer. This film for the first half starts off pretty slow as the plot tries to develop. Kurata does okay but the action could have been better. This is strictly for fans of David Chiang and Ti Lung.

David Chiang's charm eludes me, and early '70s fashions stink. Ti Lung's usual competence and Yasuaki Kurata's premiere are not enough to make this much good.
The Shadow Boxer (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Frankly, this movie started out with a lot of promise, but did not reach its full potential. The lead actor, Chen Wo Fu, who committed suicide before this film was released, really tried. Using the teachings of tai chi we watch our hero get continuously beat up, his best friend killed, his master murdered, and his girlfriend raped, before he finally fights back. With the lovely Shih Szu portraying his master's daughter, we finally get to the action, which is about the last twenty-five minutes of the film. Frankly, I felt a big let down. Not even the villainous performance of Frankie Wei could save this film from a lackluster pay-off! Lots of slow motion and average fighting.

Right again Sarge. Plus the fact that the kung fu wasn't very interesting didn't help. It's basically watching a guy get the tar beat out of him for 82 minutes.
Vengeance [1970] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This film was not what I expected, but it was entertaining. This is a pure revenge movie as David Chiang avenges his brother Ti Lung's death at the hands of some unscrupulous individuals, for the sole purpose of taking his wife. Chiang gets his vengeance but at a costly price. Look for an appearance by the great Chen Sing as a hit man hired to kill Chiang.
It was said that spaghetti was a dish originally created in China. With that in mind, we have the old East meets West formula in the persons of Lo Lieh and Lee Van Cleef. The plot is simple: Lo Lieh has one year to locate his Uncle's missing treasure which turns out to be money given to him by the ruling Chinese Warlord to invest in America. Unfortunately, the Uncle is killed and the money is gone. Our hero goes West and partners with Van Clief as his guide to find the treasure. Naturally, a psycho preacher and a super strong Native American are also in search of the missing money!
This feature has comedy, gunplay, cheesy spaghetti sound effects, and dubbing. We also get some kung fu action from Lo Lieh, but not enough to qualify as a kung fu movie. Instead it qualifies as an episode of the series "Kung Fu", only made in Italy! An enjoyable feature which I recommend only for spaghetti western fans and hardcore Lo Lieh fans.
Do we have two of the greatest screen martial artists of all time paired together for the first time? Do the two fight and then team up to help good conquer evil? Do we have great choreography by Yuen Woo-Ping? This film has all of these elements but still does not live up to the great expectations placed upon it for the first meeting of Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Why? Because the film is about our reluctant hero, portrayed by Michael Angarino.
If the producers could have found a better actor, I believe the film would have been better. Not by much, because fans were expecting Jet and Jackie to be the main focus and not supporting characters on a mission of destiny for Michael Angarino. On the plus side, I thought the cinematography, costumes, and supporting cast in the fantasy world were good. The real world scenes left a lot to be desired due again to Angarino's personality. The plot was ambitous, about a teen transported to a land of immortals and tasked with freeing the imprisoned Monkey King. He is helped by a misfit group of companions in his quest and learns about not only kung fu but also friendship, loyalty, and life.
The Hollywood influence is clearly felt on this film. It was not what I expected, but it did keep my interest. As others have pointed out, if I saw this back in my sense-of-wonder days as a child, I would have loved it. Upon seeing it as a jaded adult, I expected more, but I did manage to enjoy what was there.

Well stated, bro. Your reasoning was honest and spot on.
Oh gosh, Sgt, people hate on this movie.. Thanks for givin this the correct rating and explaining your reason. You are a pure gem [an addition] to this website!
I was hugely disappointed in "Forbidden Kingdom" and thought it could of been a success. I agree Angarino sucked and only liked him when he mentioned classic old school kung-fu films which surprised me a bit.
"Lethal Weapon 4" was produced by Joel Silver, with choreography by Corey Yuen Kwai, and stars Jet Li going up against Glover and Gibson. Now Joel Silver uses Jet Li as his lead actor in "Romeo Must Die", after his introduction to your everyday western audiences who may have not seen any of Jet Li's HK productions. Jet stars as an ex-cop that escapes prison in China in order to investigate his brother's murder. This leads him to America, where he must find the answers as his father's gang is embroiled in a war with Delroy Lindo's
gang. Asians versus African-Americans with a hip-hop atmosphere! Very ambitious.
I actually enjoyed the film as a whole. Some of what Silver was shooting for worked and some things didn't. I thought the talented supporting cast did an excellent job in this film. Aaliyah in her first acting role was cute and funny. Isaiah "Drum Line" Washington turned in a convincing portrayal as Delroy Lindo's right hand man. Anthony Anderson was the comic relief, and Russell Wong was an excellent gang lieutenant for the Asian gang headed by Jet's father. I even liked DMX's line about guns don't kill, people do. What did not work was the limited use of Jet Li's fighting ability in the film. The x-ray sequences of breaking bones were annoying, but I guess if it worked in Sonny Chiba's "Street Fighter", why not here? I also thought the growing relationship between Jet and Aaliyah could have developed more. They could have at least let the man kiss her! Jet did his best in his second English-speaking role but he did seem limited by the script and his command of the English language at the time of this film.
With all this said, the total package for the script was entertaining in this mix of hip-hop stars and martial arts. Recommended for hip-hop fans, Joel Silver action fans, and Jet Li completists only.

Sorry Sarge, but I'm non-compliant. Aside from the hippity-hop garbage and uninspiring story, the film ultimately fails in the action. The sloppiest wire fu ever concieved and it made no sense to put it in a film of this nature. And the x-ray scenes suck!
The Incredible Hulk (product link) Action/Adventure / Thriller In comparison to the disaster directed by Ang Lee, Louis Leterrier did a much better job with the pacing. I thought Norton was a good Bruce Banner and had good chemistry with Liv Tyler. The CGI Hulk in this feature had a transformed CGI Tim Roth as the Abomination to smack around as well as the army!
Not the best movie based on a comic character, but entertaining for comic fans. If you are a fan of the old television series, Lou "Hulk" Ferrigno has a cameo appearance!
For me at least this was an entertaining low budget adventure. It is a mixture of spaghetti westerns, cheese, late eighties and early nineties straight-to-video action flicks, early MTV pop/disco with updated but bad special effects, and lastly extra-cheese!
Main star and choreographer Marko Zaror has some nice moves! For his first starring role I thought he did a good job. Even Jean Claude Van Damme shouted "No Retreat No Surrender" before he moved on to better screen projects. The plot has many holes and the pacing is slow at first, but there is a certain charm as you learn the crux of the story through flashbacks from Zammy (Zaror), and the villain of the story, Max Alba. Not an action extravaganza, but if you take into account the total package, you might like it.
Where else can you see a beautiful Korean schoolgirl, a dwarf leading a secret sect, a cane-wielding villain, and some good bad acting?
Fists Of The Double K [DOUBLE FEATURE] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Henry Yu Yang stars as a newly graduated police officer sent on a deadly mission to arrest a dangerous criminal mastermind. Unfortunately for our hero, the mastermind has surrounded himself with a gang of ruthless bandits.
Not the best old school classic, but there is plenty of action. The action is not always quality but it is entertaining. John Woo directed and Yuen Wo-Ping did the martial arts choreography. This effort is clearly not their best work and was done early in their respective careers before each honed his craft. Recommended for hardcore old school martial arts lovers only!
This is a great deal for two mediocre films that were actually popular in my old neighborhood movie theatre. As a kid, I thought these films were great! As an adult they rate between one and a half to two stars. With that said, this is a good bargain for old school lovers, complete with coming scenes and intermissions.
In "Chinese Hercules", Chan Wai-Man thinks that he accidently killed his girlfriend's brother in self-defense. He runs away, swearing to never fight again. However he soon has to fight the local mob, with Bolo Yeung as their main enforcer, in order to stop them from taking control of the local docks.
The problem with this is that the whole movie is a build-up waiting for Chan Wai-Man to finally fight.
In "The Black Dragon", Jason Pai-Piao portrays a naive country bumpkin that lands a job working for some opium dealers. It takes Ron Van Clief (in his first screen role) to show him that the people he works for are the bad guys!
I am partial to both films for nostalgic reasons, however make no mistake, they are both average and cheesy. The action is okay, and both films do tend to drag in places. Again, this is a bargain for both.
For a film directed by Chor Yuen and choreographed by Yuen Wo Ping, I expected a little more. Tsung Hua stars as an orphaned bumpkin searching for the parents he never knew. Lily Li portrays a little beggar that befriends and falls in love with Tsung Hua.
Our hero, ignorant of the ways of life, is soon framed for a murder committed by the lookalike brother he never knew. This is all orchestrated by his evil rich father who in fact raped a maid that turned out to be his mother. The father is willing to sacrifice his bastard son in order to save his favorite son at all costs!
With this said, I thought the story, direction, and acting were good, especially Lily Li. Tsung Hua was just a little too naive for me, but that's how his character was scripted. There are some fight scenes, but you mainly get most of the action in the last twenty minutes of the film. Overall a good feature but I thought it could have been better. A nice drama for some, action lovers beware unless you fast forward to the end.
The Weird Man (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I am not a big fan of martial arts films with a supernatural twist, but this feature did have entertainment value. The plot, about a beheaded priest's spirit seeking revenge, was bizarre at times but interesting. The costumes, characters, and sets were well done and the fight choreography was excellent. If you want to see Ricky Cheng in action, this offering is by far superior than the later supernatural based feature "9 Demons".

i don't do drugs but i could only recommend this film to potheads or junkies. Flat-out weird, man! NURT! :Op
Heaven And Hell (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Shaw Brothers Studios tries just about anything! Sometimes it works and sometimes it misses the mark badly! This was better than "Nine Demons" but just as strange. We see many familiar faces, such as David Chiang, Alexander Fu Shing, Karie Hui, and of course the Venom Gang.
The movie chronicles the adventures of Lee I Min as he falls from grace from heaven to earth, then his redemption as he battles his way out of hell. This movie has great action, very bizarre and surreal sets, and some good acting. If you like to try different things, I say give this a look. If you are expecting a martial arts film, this is not for your viewing taste; this movie is more of a martial arts musical/horror film done in the Shaw Brothers style! It keeps your interest by the strange plot and not the action.

i found the dultish satire to be appealing but indeed this films pacing was tedious
I would have rated this a little higher because I greatly enjoyed this film. Yes, it is very weird and parts are highly stylized, but it does have some great action and is worth watching solely for the "what the hell is this" factor.
Dragon Squad [2005] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Considering the all-star cast, this film could have and should have been a lot better. I think the director tries to do a little too much with the characters. You have a crack team of police specialists, led by a reluctant Sammo Hung, going up a against a team of trained terrorists, led by Heo Jun-Ho and Michael Biehn. To me the director tries too hard to get the audience involved with the main characters of both groups. He uses a lot of slow motion and glitzy MTV-inspired flashbacks to tell the various stories of the characters. There is plenty of action but it could have been done better. The biggest bright spot is the acting of Heo Jun-Ho, and the two fight scenes with Sammo Hung! This and the uninspired scenes of Maggie Q as a sniper for the enemy, equal up to about three stars. Decent police drama that cannot quite pull all its pieces together.

I'm conflicted whether to give a Y or an N. The veteran Chinese performers are good (I can't say that of the American), but the younger are less than pale reflections of them. I don't like most of the models turned actors who confuse posing with acting.
The Killer [1972] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure An old school Shaw Brothers flick with plenty of action and a bloody finale. Our hero, portrayed by Chung Wa, is duped into helping a Chinese smuggling ring, which in actuality is controlled by the Japanese. Chung Wa is soon reunited with his childhood friend, now a customs official, and they soon battle their way to the truth. Look for the great Ku Feng as the secret leader of the gang, a Japanese samurai! The cheese factor is in full effect, but this is worth a look.
The Supreme Swordsman (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure With a film starring Jason Pai Pao, Derek Yee, and the great Ku Feng you should expect a pretty good movie. This one delivers on character and plot developement, but does fail in one important aspect. Some of the fights are sped up to ludicrous speed! I give this feature three stars for everything but the super speed sword fights. Some of the fighting is normal and quite entertaining. Its a shame that the creators of this film thought super speed was the answer, but Shaw Brothers will try anything. Sometimes they hit and sometimes they miss!

I totally agree. This film would have been excellent if the fights had not been sped up. What a shame.
The Kickboxer (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure An entertaining film directed by Wu Ma and starring the always underrated Yuen Biao. Biao stars as Lau Zhai, a wannabe student of Wong Fei Hong that runs into some nasty drug smugglers. This film is a cross between "Once Upon A Time In China" and "Heroes Among Heroes". It's not bad but could have been better, it is worth a look!
The Himalayan (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Okay martial arts feature that could have been better considering the cast. It was good though some fight scenes were sped up. Chan Sing actually makes this film good, as the despicable villain who will do anything to grab power from the local clan chief. Mao ying and Tan Tao Liang do a credible job, however the movie drags in parts. Still for the period this was made in it is worth watching.
The Magnificent Bodyguards (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Very interesting seventies kung fu from Jackie Chan in his Jacky days, and James Tien. James Tien made a career of being a villain as he got older, but it is good to see him as a no nonsense hero swordsman along side Chan's character with the lightning fists. This film was originally meant to be seen in 3D, however the sight gags and wire-fu were quite entertaining! It is an old shool classic, so the special effects etc., are dated, it is worth watching.
The Heroic Ones (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure From what I was able to see of this film, it was an okay adventure. David Chiang, Ti Lung, and Ku Feng had some great acting moments. Overall the action was not bad as we have barbarian brothers led by Chiang up against rebel elements going against the government. Not the best Ti Lung/Chiang movie, but not the worst.
Rage Of The Masters (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure An old bloody revenge flick brought to you by the deadly hands of Jimmy Wang Yu. The singular plotline seems to be revenge drenched in blood. A must-see for Wang Yu fans!
Shanghai Affairs (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure The stars of "Iron Monkey" return as Donnie Yen and Yu Rong Guang square off once again. This time Donnie is a doctor settling in a poor town, to take care of the needy villagers using his medical skills learned in the West. Unfortunately Yu Rong Guang and his axe gang want the village's land for a casino project. Also Throw in the fact that Yu Rong Guang's sister portrayed by the lovely Athena Chu, falls in love with Donnie after he restores her ability to speak. All this culminates into great martial arts action with an explosive end match between Donnie and Yu Rong Guang.
Vamps [4-Movie Set] (product link) Horror / Erotica A couple of these vampire flicks are worth watching. The acting and special effects are not the greatest, but they are still fun if you like vampires.
