A film I can watch over and over again, for the many varied fighting styles and the detail of their depiction. A minor quibble is the main character's attempts to win over his master, which detracts from an otherwise solid film.

The overall balance of the film could have been better with a little more of the superb fighting and a little less drama (which was not bad, but over-extended). The final fight, while enjoyable, was mildly artificial because the opponents survived hits which had hereto been lethal. Nevertheless, this is a fine movie.

A good film spoiled by overly-long and excessively melodramatic rememberances. On the other hand, authentic sword choreography, intriguing plot, and the rival swordsmen's depth of characters redeem the film.

Operation Scorpio (product link)

Novel scorpion style and fantastic kicking. However, too much of the film is wasted on boring comedy and amateurish acting. Good 10-minute fight sequence at the end.

Re-watchability: annually.

Collection: Toss out.
