White Book Of Love (product link) TV Shows/Movies / Drama Wonderful, heart-tugging story of five college friends (three boys, two girls) that explores their friendship and the loves borne from it. I enjoyed this from beginning to end! This well-written romance-drama will capture your attention from episode one and won't shake you loose until the very end. Here's what happens: what!? No way am I going to tell you! Get "White Book" and enjoy it firsthand!
Dream Lover [1995] (product link) Drama / Romance A wonderful, hilarious movie! Friends Shing and Man are deliciously funny. If you like "man pursues woman"-themed movies, this movie won't disappoint. Viewers are led into a tale far richer than is initially expected, with a climatic ending that keeps your gaze glued to the screen and your heart hoping that Shing will get his girl.
Escape From Poverty (product link) TV Shows/Movies / Drama This engrossing rags-to-riches story theme, Japanese style, has never been portrayed better. With its emotional highs and lows, "Escape From Poverty" is a vibrant, heartwarming, and often comical episodic production (Dorama).
From the start, it invites you to cheer for Ogawara (Yuji Oda), who struggles to overcome poverty and debt and provide a financially sound future for himself and his two younger brothers. Power, hard work and determination leads to an intriguing transformation. But if you're a Dr. Shiba fan ("He's Always There"), I warn you, you won't be seeing much of his personality in "Escape From Poverty".
I love Yuji Oda, but this isn't one of his better movies. When this performance is compared to doramas he's been in like "He's Always There", "Is Life Wonderful" and "Justice For All", this movie is a disappointment, but it was still interesting. The movie was lacking in excitablility, and Oda looked slightly aged. The movie's potential to be good was there but Nomura's (Oda) weak personality didn't give the film the much needed pizzazz it lacked. Its characters were basically lifeless.
Oda's character wasn't nearly as arrogant and strong as I've come to like about my favorite Oda portrayals.
"Star Reformer" has a slightly lackluster ending and the sudden appearance was unbelievable. Usually doesn't work well in American movies and soap operas, either. Overall, it was a decent flick and worth the price, but anything over $15 bucks, and the plot won't give you your money's worth.
