Raiders Of Wu Tang (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

It was a great surprise to see the crippled masters in this, but they do very little fighting. They help control the 24 bronze horses, which was different from your standard training scenes. It is easy to tell that they are wooden horses when they are supposed to be bronze, but it's a very low budget movie.

The monk who plays the Wisdom character I found to be the best character in the movie. There are lots of other great villains, leading to some great fights. A fun old school flick here.

One of my favorite Alexander Lo Rei movies. Very low budget, but don't let that stop you from seeing it. Chen Shan as usual plays a great villain role. Classic old school flick with plenty of great fights to please anyone.

Stroke Of Death (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Coming from the same director, this movie reminded me of "Five Superfighters"--a lot of same cast members and Hau Chiu Sing busts out some great drunken style, which he usually does in all movies I've seen him in.

It does start off a bit slow but picks up and packs a lot of fast-paced fights. I found it to be on par with "Five Superfighters". It features less training scenes but is still a fun old school flick to watch. Great backdrops, too, it's all filmed in outdoor locations.

Lion Vs. Lion (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Excellent fights and a great cast. The comedy I found clever at times (the comment about the swords), but it does pull away from the story near the middle.

It's different to see Lo Meng star in this without any other Venom members, but he still pulls off a great character like always.

The ending was a bit of a letdown. While it tries to be different from most other Shaw Brothers flicks, they just didn't pull it off that well. Don't let the ending get to you though, the fights alone make up for it.

Highly recommended. Don't pass this movie up.

Shanghai 13 (product link)
Crime / Martial Arts

The movie has its share of problems, but I found the fights more than made up for it. You're definitely not going to care for the plot, and it may seem slow at first, but just wait until the fight scenes kick in.

Lots of big names from Shaw Brothers movies and other familiar faces appear. If I had to pick one major gripe about the film, it's that there are too many stars. Doing this never gives any key roles to all the big stars. It really does move from one fight scene to the next with a new set of actors ready to get it on. A few other stars are also very under-used as well. Jimmy Wang only appears at the start in a non-fight scene. The production seems much lower compared to past Chang Cheh movies too.

Putting all of that aside, it still holds a lot of solid fights and a big cast of stars which makes it worth checking out. And just like a lot of Chang Cheh movies, the bloodshed plays a big part. This is one of the bloodier movies from Chang Cheh.

Shaolin Temple Strikes Back (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Another great old school flick from Joseph Kuo. While it's not one of his best, it's still a great one to add.

I had to take a second look at the drunken monk, it's Mark Lung! It's hard to tell with his head shaved and his beard. He does an excellent job playing as the drunken monk. The rivalry between him and Chen Shan plays well into the movie too. It sets it up for a great ending battle scene when all hell breaks loose.

Some of the slapstick humor near the middle slows the film down a little bit, but other then that it's a solid old school movie that any fan should enjoy.

The Thundering Mantis (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Crazy old school flick that only Leung Kar-Yan could pull off. Nothing too original as far as the story, but a very bizarre ending and that's what made the movie so damn awesome.

Chin Yuet Sang does a good job as playing the old master who teaches the Mantis Fist. The little kid who stars in this can be a little annoying at times but is still amazing with the type of talent he shows off.

Just an overall fun old school flick to enjoy. Great fights and an ending that sets it off. A must-see for Beardy fans.

Shaolin Prince (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Seeing this for the first time, it already tops my list as one of my favorite Shaw Brother flicks.

It boasts a solid cast and is a must-see for Ti Lung fans. I found the wirework to be very effective, working well within the context of the fights. It doesn't become so over the top that it takes away from the fights. Compared to a lot of other early films that started using wirework, I found the wirework in this to be much better.

There's so much else to like about the movie with all that they pack into it: the 18-man Lohan array, great weapons, and very creative ending fight. It's well worth getting just for the fights alone, of which there are plenty.

Dragon Squad [1974] (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

A great cast makes for a good old school flick. The story drags a little at times but the cast helps brings everything together.

One thing I liked about this is that, out of all the main cast members, none of them are invincible. It's not something you could compare to like a Shaw Brothers film where fights can go on for ten minutes without anyone getting hit. The fights in this are hard-hitting and everyone gets hurt. It isn't about trying to find an enemy's weak spot, it just comes down to who the smarter fighter is. It makes the fights seem more real too.

Snake In The Monkey's Shadow (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

One of my all time favorite movies to display the snake style. The snake, monkey, and drunken style make for a lot fun and creative fights.

While the story is nothing new and it's got your regular slapstick comedy, Wilson Tong and Charlie Chan make a great villain duo. This leads to a lot of good fights with these two teamed up.

This movie is a must for any fans of the snake or monkey style fighting.

Drunken Arts And Crippled Fist / Horse Boxing Killer [DOUBLE FEATURE] (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Drunken Arts And Crippled Fist
Another good Sam Seed and Li I Min movie. I really liked crippled fist fighting style but I wish it was used more during the film. You only see it when Li I Min learns it and then during the final fight. The story isn't much, but still there are plenty of great fights.

Horse Boxing Killer
Same Seed's role is very small in this and he isn't used much as far as fighting. The rest of the movie is still solid. The lead villain uses horse style fighting which makes for some great fights. It's your average revenge story, but the fight scenes more than make up for it.

Incredible Kung Fu Mission (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

It doesn't get much better than this classic old school flick. Loads of great fight scenes, and John Liu's kicking skills are on full display. Compared to other John Liu movies, his character is a bit more serious in this when he trains the five men. It's got some comedy bits at the start, which is something you expect but doesn't bring the movie down much. After the training scenes the movie picks up right away with lots of great fights. Robert Tai makes a great lead villain no matter how odd he looks. Good twist at the end too. Highly recommended.

A pretty good old school movie. I wouldn't say it's Lee Yi Min's best, but he was still good in it. Some good fights, good end fight as well.

The story is a bit different and can be really confusing at the start, but everything gets explained towards the end. A great one to add to any martial arts collection.

Hit Man In The Hand Of Buddha [DOUBLE FEATURE] (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Hwang Jang Lee is much better off as villain, but he still does a good job in this. Lots of great fights, some creative ones too like with chopsticks. Slows down a little bit towards the middle but it doesn't last too long and picks right back up.

[Spoilers] Fan Mei-San's role isn't big in this, he really only has one short fight scene. What I didn't like though is how he gets involved in the final fight. I won't give it away, but I thought it was weak how Hawng was able to win the fight. They could have come up with something a bit more creative or just let Fan Mei finish the fight. [End Spoilers]

Overall a good old school flick that any fan should enjoy.

The Mystery Of Chess Boxing [Tai Seng] (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Great cast and characters. Lots of silly wigs used but it just adds to the movie and makes it even better. Plenty of great fights. Some of the comdey bits do drag it down for a bit, but it's not that bad.

For a Joseph Kuo film, this is right on par with "Born Invincible" and "7 Grand Masters". A lot of regular castmembers were used in all three movies, so any fan of either of those movies will enjoy this.

Sting Of The Dragon Master (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Very similar to "Hapkido", and most of the same cast returns. Angela Mao does what she does best: kick ass. Jhoon Ree has a much bigger role than what he had in "Hapkido" and shows off more of his skills. Anne Winston was to new me but I really liked her character in this.

I don't think this was quite as good as "Hapkido" was but still a good film. It's the same style film, so if you liked "Hapkido" then check this out.

The Lady Constables (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Great cast with Angela Mao and Chia Ling. Angela Mao, as in most of her films, gives a good tough girl role.

I'd really like to rate this movie higher but the fights have way too much cut and paste going on. By that I mean it's very easy to tell all the cuts were made during the fights--you can tell when the camera stops and starts again. This is common in a bunch of old school flicks but it happens far too often in this. It can really hurt the fights because it just makes them look cheap and silly. It may not bother everyone, but for me it does when it gets used so often. The movie is also a bit to long due to a few scenes that drag it down.

Snake Deadly Act (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

Great old school flick. I've always enjoyed Wilson Tong movies that he's directed. They usually have a decent story and this was similar to what "Daggers 8" had as for a plot twist.

Some really good training scenes and plenty of good fights. Angela Mao's role is small in this so don't expect to see much of her. Other than that this a true classic. For any fan of the snake style or lobster--yes lobster--style, this is a must-see.

Really enjoyed this. Not a bad story, and with a good twist to it at the and. Wilson Tong plays a good villain like always. Meng Yeun Man also puts on a good show. A really good cast and it's always great to see Lo Lieh playing a villain--though I couldn't help feel bad for him by the end of the movie because of the outcome that happens with his character. While the fighting may not be some of the best, it's still decent enough. What stands out are the weapons and again a good cast of characters that helps fill in the gaps. Not a bad story either.

Girls With Guns / Martial Arts

Your typical HK from back in the day. Off the wall stunts that would land people in hospitals and a silly plot. The second half of the film definitely makes up for it since that's were most of the action is. Cynthia Rothrock is great in it, her HK movies were always her best stuff. It's also funny to see Fan Siu Wong in this. He's a skinny little kid compared to how he looks in "Story Of Ricky".

The Sword Stained With Royal Blood [1981] (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

It was great to see Kuo Choi take the lead and some great action in between the film. What bothered me though was most of the movie takes place in the same location throughout most the movie. It even looks like the same area used in "Invincible Shaolin". A lot chatter about the story that I really couldn't get into and slows the pace of the film down. Still not a bad movie, but not one of my favorite Venom films.

Shaolin Iron Claws (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

The fights definitely make up for the movie's faults. The two kids become annoying and you would think they would learn their lesson from stealing since they get caught each time. Another problem was Chan Sing, he appears at the start and then you never see him again. He would have played a great lead villain but for some reason disappears. Aside from that, it's all about the fights and it has plenty. Great old school stuff for Wong Tao fans.

You can't go wrong with the cast. Ng See Yuen usually puts together a dream cast and "Invincible Armour" is no exception. Plenty of great fights, my favorite being the spear fight at the end. Good production value as far as the costumes, story, locations, and some great music. Lots of other classic scenes (the egg scene) just make it a classic. Don't pass this up.

The Bare Footed Kid (product link)
Martial Arts / Action/Adventure

I really disliked Aaron Kwok in this, just his acting in general. He puts on a good show towards the ending, but too much drama and other things drag it down. Ti Lung also took a back seat--while he has plenty of scenes and plays his character well, very little has to do with fighting. The ending still makes up for some of it, but I still wish Ti Lung was used more. Just don't expect fights scene after scene and more of a slower-paced film.

YI agree with the 3 star rating, although I don't think it was Kwok that hurt this film, I think it was the overall storyline. A better story and more Ti Lung would have definitely helped.William Giordanella

Great lead younger actors who really show their talent throughout the movie. Hwang Jang Lee plays a great villain as he usually does. Starts off slowly, with a lot of comedy bits at the start, but once Fok Yun Gap is grown up all that is thrown out. Very tight fights scenes that really show the talent from the entire cast. I found the best scene to be when Fok Yun Gap fights the eagle claw master, great stuff. Everyone is at the top of their game in this, as is also Yuen Wo Ping for directing.

I expected more from this just from the great cast it had. It picks up a bit halfway into the film when the fights become better, too many scenes at the start that take place in the dark.

Seven Swords (product link)
Martial Arts / Swordplay/Sword(s)

Much better than I thought it would be with all the negative comments and reviews it got. The fight scenes are top notch and old school style, and I never saw a problem with the editing--only at the start there's one confusing scene. It's a long movie, but the fight scenes, while there aren't a lot, last for a good amount of time on screen that will hold you over until the next scene.

Only problem I have is that the movie has such a good cast it was hard for them to add any type of depth to the characters. There's really only a couple you get know while others hardly have any lines and you never know anything about them. But I guess that's what we get with all the extra scenes they had to cut out from the original version. Hopefully they will release an uncut version some day.

Overall this is a great movie for any old school fan of HK films back in the day. Don't listen to the negatives about this film, judge that for yourself.

Great old school horror film with some good monster effects. It's got a lot of great cheesy funny scenes and some very bad acting, but that's what you get from an 80's horror flick.

Found this movie very boring at times and the zombies in this really aren't zombies, more like ghost's. They can appear and re-appear in front of people or behind them which they always do. Its got some gore but there's so many times when the zombie type people always appear behind people and pull there brains out. Gets kinda old after a couple times.

The Twins Effect 2 (product link)
Science Fiction / Horror

Mmmm Charlene Choi without her this movie would have been even worse.

The original Twins Effect was great it had some good fighting and it was funny. Twins Effect 2 really has nothing to do with the first film rather only having the Twins to star in it again.

Storywise its about men are slaves and women rule. The twins along with Donnie Yen and a few other main characters set out and try and find this sword. Once they have it there able to kill the queen with it. The queen over powers people everyone is scared of her and no likes her.

Charlene Choi one of the twins probably kept me from not turning it off. She grows on you and really did a good job she's cute and can be funny.

Donnie Yen is in this and has a cool intro scene at the start and yet there's not much else he really doesn't have that huge of a role. There is a fight scene between him and Jackie Chan which was kinda pointless but still was an alright scene. It wasn't to original and there wasn't anything special about it.

Jackie Chan son is also in this probably cause Jackie Chan help worked on the movie. His son does nothing and isn't the best actor he does no stunts or fights. Just tags around with on of the twins.

The costumes lol wtf? There horrible the women wear these purple get ups that look ugly and can ruin the film.

The choreography is so-so its no were near as good as in the first Twin Effects. Besides the Donnie Yen fight scenes there's a couple more but there's not a whole to say about them. The twins fight at the start which seems slow paced same with the other small fights that break out during the film.

The one thing that kills this movie is the CGI its bad. There's a couple good effects but they over did it. Instead of the good ol wire work they just replaced everyone with CGI bodies whenever they do some high jump it looks really bad.

They could have used that money and focused more on the choreography.

This was a let down but thank god for the Twins. It also could have been a lot worse there are some funny scenes and the fighting is OK.

See this if your a fan of the first Twins Effect or a fan of the Twins. Besides that your not missing much go see or watch the first Twins Effect again.

The Princess Blade (product link)
Martial Arts / Swordplay/Sword(s)

Saw this awhile back ago and I was hyped to see it being that Donnie Yen was the choreography. It was a bit of a let down there's not a whole lot of fighting in it most of it is sword play which isn't bad but there's only one good scene that takes place near the middle that's worth watching it.

Choreography is nothing new you see a lot of the same moves they could have mixed it up more.

The story itself was alright but the ending wasn't great I didn't know why they would end it like that. Makes you think that's the best ending they could come up with? It doesn't even end like an ending should. I would have rated it higher if the ending was better.

Good transfer on to the DVD all the colors look well like a DVD should. They got some great camera work like at the start of the film just the tone of light that was used. Also the settings that were filmed mix well with the movie there's a few different locations that look nice.

Id rent this before buying should be easy to spot a most rental stores. The choreography could have been worked on more and with a better ending it this could have been a better movie.

I've seen lot of Donnie Yen flicks this is one of his weaker films that he's worked on but not his worst.

Zatoichi [2003] (product link)
Drama / Swordplay/Sword(s)

Now I've never seen any of the older Zatoichi films but after watching the newest one in the series it makes me want to watch the rest.

This movie is outstanding and very entertaining. The story it starts out showing the bone setter (Zatoichi) coming to this small village nice little fight scene at the start. He uses this stick which is really a sword its slick looking. He moves a bit slow when walking but is fast with his sword, he's a machine!

After he gets into town you kinda see that the village is very poor cause of other stronger type people that make people pay monetary fees pretty much taking there money.

You learn a little bit more about the bone setter, he gambles and is good at it he never loses cause he is blind so he listens to the sound of the dice, the game they play is a type of odd & even type game with some dice.

Anyways the bone setter meets a brother and sister who are set to avenge there family's death. There not sure on who killed them cause it was a group of people who did the group so they kill pretty much who ever they can. The bone setter helps them out which leads to a lot of great sword fight scenes.

All the blood in the movie is cgi which I wasn't to surprised cause Takeshi did the same with battle royale which I know same people hated that but I didn't mind I thought it looked good but there is some scenes you can tell the blood is clearly cgi.

I was also surprised this movie is filled with a lot of humor and its great it mixes well with the movie. When they get to a serious scene the scene is serious, but when they get to a part that has humor you laugh so they did a good job with that.

Overall I was stunned by this movie cause it was so well done. The humor, gore, bone setter who is slick and does a job. Also a great ending. A must see and a must buy for all fans and collectors of Zatoichi movies.

This probably the worst of the Venoms movies I've seen. The so-called zombies/vampries in them jump around looks really dumb. I won't blame for the effects because of how old this movie was. It has one good fight scene in it; the rest are very bad and slow-paced, and there are few fights in them.
