Batman And Robin (product link) Action/Adventure / Crime Terrible, terrible tripe. The last of the original run of "Batman" movies, "Batman And Robin" takes a huge leap backwards and returns the series to its cornball tendencies established with the 60s cartoon show. Everything is overly gaudy, from the set design to the costumes to the acting, and the story is too unbelievable to be entertaining. Skip this garbage and watch "Batman Begins" instead.
Miracles (product link) Drama / Martial Arts Another action comedy classic from the master! This is a wonderful period piece that's somewhat light on the action but keeps up a nice pace throughout most of the movie. The all-star cast is a treat to see and the music/cinematography is top-notch. A must-watch for everyone!
Battle Royale (product link) Horror / Thriller This movie was...interesting, to say the least. It seems to be a movie of stylistic extremes. For every well-executed gunshot/crossbow hit, etc., there's a terrible blood-knife swipe. Every harrowing, tension-soaked kill scene is immediately followed by a sappy but-I-loved-you-all-along dramafest. While the premise of the Battle Royale tournament is intriguing, the story around it seems tacked on and convoluted. The ending was also highly anticlimactic and really killed the movie for me. Worth a rental for the gore and tension, but you won't be watching it again.

I may of watched this movie more times than any other in history and still enjoy it especially when i'm drunk.
It may be that this film hasn't aged well for certain viewers. But when it came out it was totally revolutionary, and for me that's what it remains. Bummer you didn't enjoy it more. :(
After all of the positive hype surrounding both the theatrical and home video releases of "Iron Man", I had some high if slightly cautions expectations. I should have gone with my gut: this one's a stinker. I can take a somewhat outlandish movie plot, and especially if it's a comic adaptation, but COME ON. Not to spoil anything, but the "villains" in this movie alternate between mouth-breathing dimwits and maniacal supergeniuses depending on what the plot requires, and it really stands out as poorly executed. Hell, you don't even get to see Stark suited up properly until the last half hour of the two hour plus runtime! Countless corporate namedrops and audience panders further degrade the experience. While almost the entire cast seemed to be phoning it in, Robert Downey's performance is easily worth a star. I'll also admit that the CG was well done, and some of the suit devices were cool to watch. Still, those moments are few and far between; tread lightly.

After hearing all the positive things said about this film, I had high hopes but was totally disappointed.
I totally see where you're coming from on this one, but I still thought it was a fun stupid way to spend some time. I never need to see it again, but I definitely didn't think it was as horrible as you.
Even if you don't dig the content, you can't deny the craftsmanship of these things. The backgrounds are beautiful, the music is fantastic. Just terrific animation. And I love the content too. :)
Margaret Cho: Revolution (product link) Comedy Eh, this was alright. "Revolution" was my first experience of Cho's stand-up, so I viewed this with a clean slate. Although she has some genuinely funny bits and is absolutely stellar with her body language/faces/impressions/etc., she tends to get "stuck" in the same bit for too long. Her vague political jabs were poorly delivered and took away from the much-more-entertaining personal/family bits (Asian Chicken Salad is a highlight). A decent way to spend an hour-and-a-half but don't expect to have your mind blown.

This was the beginning of the end for Cho. Check out "I'm The One That I Want" and "Notorious", and avoid anything later. This once great comedienne is definitely now very much "stuck" in a repetitive doldrums as you say.
Batman (product link) Action/Adventure / Crime Wow, has this film aged terribly. Purely a product of late 80s cheese, Tim Burton's "Batman" pales in comparison with Christopher Nolan's more recent efforts. Michael Keaton is entirely unconvincing as the Dark Knight, and Jack Nicholson's Joker seems comically overacted next to Heath Ledger's more menacing performance. The special effects have hardly held up and the Prince music is simply too much to bear. Still, the symphonic score by Danny Elfman is fantastic, and the few fights of the film are well done. This one's purely for nostalgia; if you want a real "Batman" movie, see "Batman Begins".

Jack nailed Joker perfectly. Heath Ledger is overrated!
Fatal Contact (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Wow, what a letdown. For a movie titled "Fatal Contact" (and featuring a grimacing Wu Jing in battle pose on the Dragon Dynasty version), there sure was a lot of melodramatic, confusing bullcrap. I got the gist of the story but it's completely uninteresting and bland. Wu Jing is a great martial artist and the few fight scenes can attest to that; however, during dramatic scenes all he can seem to do is bob around and smile. If you have to watch this movie, just skip ahead to the fight scenes. You won't miss a thing.
Son Of Swordsman (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Good stuff for swordplay fans: nifty special effects, a compelling story, and great acting. It loses a star for being hard to follow in the middle section.

I would knock it back a 1/2 star, but everything you said was right, especially the part about being hard to follow in the middle section. I also had issue with the subtitles; white subtitles on a white background make them hard to read sometimes.
Born To Fight [2004] (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts What a great film. A decent action plot is easily outshined by the phenomenal stuntwork and great acting/storytelling. Easily recommended for Thai cinema/action/crazy stunt fans.

phenomenal stuntwork but the story is far from great and definately does not deserve 5 stars
Bulletproof Monk (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts A decent movie, but only for the involvement of Chow Yun-Fat. A lackluster story with a weak villain coupled with terrible fight scene editing/wirefu/CG, but somewhat enjoyable nonetheless. Give it a rental and then leave it alone.

The King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters (product link) Documentary / Comedy This is a such a great documentary. Brilliant editing combined with the candid confessions of the participants make for a wild ride that will appeal to anyone, not just video game fans. All of the hype is well deserved!
Microcosmos (product link) Documentary / Art What a great documentary. It's crazy how close they could get to the insects, revealing tiny little movements and details you'd never notice otherwise. A must-see for everyone.

You'd think this doc might be out of date by now, with all the latest advancements in technology, but nope. It's still totally amazing.
The Dark Knight (product link) Action/Adventure / Crime Holy crap, what a ride...easily the best superhero movie ever made, and certainly the best movie of 2008. Nonstop, tightly choreographed action combined with a knockout plot and legendary acting make this one a must-see for all cinema aficionados. This one raises the bar for cinema.

I love this one. Josephine Siao is totally underrated.
Rec (product link) Horror / Thriller This movie really didn't do anything for me. The scares are predictable, the gore isn't realistic, and the acting is too over-the-top hysterical to be convincing. I guess a Blair Zombie movie had to be made eventually, but this is just disappointing.

Bloodsport (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts Kinda' corny and mediocre acting, but the fight scenes are great, especially at the end. Recommended.

This movie deserves no more than one star. This movie is only for the discerning fan who thinks Don "The Dragon" Wilson is an unstoppable force.
Jackie Chan: My Stunts [Documentary] (product link) Documentary / Martial Arts A great watch for Jackie fans, this doc really gets into the nitty gritty of his various styles and techniques. Good stuff!
War (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts A decent actioner saved by a fabulous twist ending. Yeah, I actually liked the final plot twist; it really brought the film together and brought purpose to the random scenes in between. Much better than what you've heard, highly recommended.

Chocolate [2008] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Takes awhile to get going, but once it does, hold on! The stunts in this one were less over-the-top than Prachya's previous work, but they were just as intense. A must-see for Thai action fans.

Another YEP! from me! Slow start-action packed middle and end!
Invisible Target (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts A solid action flick, "Invisible Target" is a must-see for anyone who's attracted to explosions, kick-ass martial arts and slick, stylized characters. There are a couple of corny dramatic scenes, but they are well worth the rest of the movie. See it now!

Definitely lives up to the hype. After "Time and Tide" I'll take a look at any Nicholas Tse flick. Great to see him back in badass form in this one.
Invincible Pole Fighter (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure An absolute classic. While Alexander Fu Sheng's absence is felt near the end of the film (understandable, given his untimely death), everything else about this film is absolutely top notch. The fight scenes are unbelievably fluid and realistic, yet completely over-the-top entertaining at the same time. Top it off with a great story and stunning performances, and you have a winner! See it now!
Shaolin Soccer [Dutch SE 2-Disc Set] (product link) Comedy / Action/Adventure What a great film. Wonderful comedy, exciting and over-the-top soccer action sequences, and a great story, all wrapped up around Chow and co.'s wonderful performances. A must-see!

I agree it's an over-the-top film but it succeeds. The movie is a blast with likeable characters and a great human story it make it a wonderful film.
The Orphanage (product link) Ghost / Thriller Well crafted/acted, but the narrative fell a little flat around the halfway mark. Recommended for horror fans.
Once Upon A Time In China (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts A classic, with Jet Li at his finest. The story can be a little hard to follow in places, but the immaculately choreographed fight scenes more than make up for it.

When I saw this in theaters- I wasn't that amazed- I found it just an ok film, I didn't hate it or anything-but compared to the sequel "Blade 2" it was amazing Del Toro knows his comic books.
Fist Of Fury [1972] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure The definitive Hong Kong Bruce Lee film. A must-see for anyone even remotely interested in martial arts flicks. SEE IT NOW!

Wheels On Meals (product link) Martial Arts / Comedy Great action and humor! Jackie's end fight has to be seen to be believed, and Yuen/Sammo do a great job as well. The story left a little bit to be desired, but everything else is top-notch. Highly recommended!
Appleseed [2004] (product link) Animation / Science Fiction Great movie. It's kind of a weird stylistic mix of CGI modeled after traditional anime character designs, which can look kind of plastic-like at times. It has a great plot, great action scenes, and the finale is truly exciting. Recommended for anime/action fans.
