The Assassin [1967] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I really enjoyed "The Assassin", and I think Jimmy Wang Yu was in top form in this film. There ain't lots of action in the film, but the great story more than makes up for it. The film has great sets, good costume designs, and most importantly, the acting from everyone is excellent. There might not be loads of action in the film, but when there is it's top notch. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes their Shaw films.

Yes, Jimmy Wang Yu was def. in top form in this flick. Great film.
The Boxer From Shantung (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I think "The Boxer From Shantung" is a decent movie with lots of good bloody action scenes and an okay plot. This might not be one of Chen Kuan Tai's better movies, but it's still very enjoyable and well worth checking out.

I must not have seen enough Chen Kuan Tai films: This is probably my favorite - perfectly suited to his form, intensity and abilities. I rate this much higher.
Lone Wolf And Cub 6: White Heaven In Hell (product link) Action/Adventure / Swordplay/Sword(s) What a great way to end a great trilogy. If, like me, you loved all the previous movies, then you've got to get hold of this classic. The film has some really cool characters, and the action and visuals are amazing. This is truly a must-have. Highly recommended.

Each of the films was excellent, but this is one of the best.
The One-Armed Swordsman Trilogy [3-Movie Box] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I would highly recommend the One-Armed Swordsman trilogy to anyone who likes Shaw Brothers flicks. I watched these three classics back to back and not once was I bored. I thought the acting from Jimmy Wang Yu and Lisa Chiao Chiao in the first two movies was excellent; and also the action was really good, with loads of great bloody fight scenes. The third movie, "New One Armed Swordsman", is equally as good as its two predecessors, starring David Chiang as the one-armed swordsman and Ti Lung as his good pal. Both give great performances. I also think Ku Feng played a great part as the villain. Like the first two movies, the acting is good, with loads of great swordplay. I think Chang Cheh made three cracking movies here, and I couldn't fault them in any way. Highly recommended.

Some of Jimmys best work and all three of these movies are a must have in your collection.
I'm not a big fan of Jimmy Wang Yu, but he is extremely good in the first two films. I am basically antagonistic toward David Chiang, but he's pretty good in the third. The central concept was obviously one that engaged Chang Cheh fully.
Martial Arts Of Shaolin (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This was the only collaboration between Jet Li and Lau Kar Leung, and I think they made a classic here. I think "Martial Arts Of Shaolin" is a blast from start to finish, with lots of great choreographed action scenes and very likable characters. I thought the scenery and costume designs were very pleasing to the eye. If you like Jet Li films and haven't seen this one yet, then just get it and, like me, you'll be glad you did.

This was a pretty good film, and I'm surprised Jet and Lau Kar Leung didn't make any more films together.
Lady Whirlwind (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I dont think this is Angela Mao Ying's best film, but there is plenty to like about "Lady Whirlwind". I found the story to be okay, and there's also lots of decent action to keep you interested in the film. Chang Yi also stars in this film and plays a decent character with his fair share of action scenes. And as you probably know, a young Sammo Hung's in the film too, and I've never seen Sammo get his butt kicked as much as he does in this one--honest, he's like a big pussy. Overall, I thought it was a good film; and if you like Angela Mao Ying, this is a worthy addition to your collection.
The Way Of The Dragon (product link) Martial Arts I think "Way Of The Dragon" is an amazing kung fu movie with some of the greatest action you're ever likely to see. This was one of the first kung fu movies I remember seeing when I was a nipper and was blown away by Bruce Lee's ability as a martial artist--especially the confrontation between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in the coliseum. It is just breath taking, and to this day I still think it's one of the best one-on-one fights ever filmed. The plot and the acting leaves a lot to be desired, but who cares, it's still a classic kung fu flick. This film brings back all the memories, and that's why this film will always have a special place in my heart.

Bruce Lee had something he wanted to express, and it came out most clearly in this film. It's a masterpiece - not my favorite of his, but I have no defense of my gauchery.
A must have classic . I have all of bruce lee films on video, They are so great that i got them again on dvd, thanks to HKFLIX, this site is amazing if you are a kung fu movie fan .
Legend Of A Fighter (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is a great kung fu flick starring Leung Kar Yan as the legendary Fok Yun Gap, and he plays the part well. The film is directed by Yuen Wo Ping, and it shows. The action in the film is excellent and there's plenty of it too. I also think Phillip Ko Fei played a great part as the father of Leung Kar Yan's character,
and Yasuaki Kurata was also great in the film. The end fight between Keung Kar Yan and Yasuaki Kurata is just awsome, as are all the fights in the movie. I thought the story was really good, and not once was I bored with it. I highly recommend this great fu movie.

Great action and great story! I agree with you this is an excellent old school classic!
Fubar, ha, ha. Awesome reference. I haven't seen "Tango & Cash" in a while but I do dig that flick. It seems that KungfuManiac might be coming around. We should maybe give him a chance to speak his piece...
Fist Of Legend (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure Well what can be said about this great kung fu classic that hasn't already been said? I shall just say I think this is Jet Li's greatest achievement. The fight choreography in this movie is fast and furious and is up there with the very best kung fu flicks. I was glad to see that Yuen Wo Ping kept the wire work to a minimum and kept the fights more grounded, as I think anything else would have spoiled the film. Some people try comparing this to Bruce Lee's "Fist Of Fury". Yes, the story's more or less the same, but I wouldn't say one is better than the other. I love them both. I reckon most people have seen this classic by now, but if you haven't, you really need to. I can't wait to get my hands on the two-disc ultimate edition in September.

Exceptional martial arts embraced by a very good script and story.
The Victim [1980] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure If you love Sammo Hung fu flicks--and let's be honest, who doesn't?--then you'll certainly enjoy this classic fu movie. The action in this film is brilliant and there's a lot of great comedy too. Also starring with Sammo is "Beardy" (Leung Kar Yan), and as you well know he never disappoints in a Sammo flick. This classic
Sammo Hung movie is sure to please any fan of kung fu flicks. I just hope that this film gets remastered one day because it sure as hell deserves it.

I agree with all comments and the final fight is breathtaking
Shaolin Challenges Ninja (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This film is amazing. How can someone make a martial arts movie without a single death in it? Well Lau Kar Leung did, and boy didn't he do it well. This is without any shadow of doubt one of my top ten kung fu flicks of all time. I would challenge anyone to find a better kung fu weapons flick than this one. Gordon Liu and the Japanese fighters all give superb performances with their chosen weapons. My favorite fight is when Gordon Liu with his 3 section staff takes on one of the Japanese who uses a nunchaku. The fight is just incredible. I can't recommend this film enough. If you haven't seen this film yet, then shame on you. Just go and buy it. Thinking about it I think I'm going to watch this film right now.

A very strong film - with a refreshing humanity to the story.
Hell yeah ,awesome. I found this movie by accident because i was searching for japanese flix . Let me tell you, I was very pleased with this one. I have the older version on dvd . I think i will get it again on the dragon dynasty version.
Gordon Liu is probably the most overlooked of the classic Kung Fu heroes in the modern day. The skill he displayed with the wide variety of weapons in this film is nothing short of extraordinary. This one is a true classic.
Lady Kung Fu (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I think this is a very good kung fu movie starring the queen of kung fu, the beautiful Angela Mao Ying and Carter Wong, plus the legend that is Sammo Hung. I think Mao Ying is exceptional in the film. The kicks plenty of butt and does it well. Also Sammo does his fair share of ass kicking too. The plot is similar to that of "Fist Of Fury", with the Japanese starting a war against Chinese martial art schools. Look out for a young Jackie Chan and Corey Yuen Kwai. I rated the film 4 stars because there are a lot more better kung fu flicks than this one out there. Still I would highly recommend this classic to any kung fu fanatic.

Agreed, this is definitely a Mao Ying old school classic!
Shaolin Intruders (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is a good movie. I think Derek Yee and Jason Pai Piao are both great in this movie. The action in the film is very good, though I think it would have been even better if not for all the flying around. I like to see fighters on the ground kicking butt. It was.good to see Lee Hoi Sang in the movie playing the part of a bad tempered monk--check out his eyebrows, they're wicked. I would certainly recommend purchasing this movie as it's sure to entertain.

I don't usually like extravagant wire work and insane monk-formations, but this film is an awful lot of fun. The cast is very capable.
The Machine Girl (product link) Action/Adventure / Girls With Guns WOW, what a film. I don't think I have seen so much gore in a film like this one before. There are some crazy weapons in this movie, such as the flying guillotine 'chainsaw' and--who could forget?--the drill bra. If you like to see plenty of limbs get the chop and loads of blood squirting everywhere, then you've come to the right place. This is the beautiful Minase Yoshiro's debut film and she doesn't disappoint either. This is sure to entertain.
The film is over-hyped by many reviewers. I did say "Chocolate has good action scenes" It's for the action person. A good kung fu film has a good story 2 follow, so that were not trying to dumb down asian cinema. U need to watch more real fu films.
Ten Tigers From Kwangtung (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I really enjoyed this movie. The only letdown is the story. Apart from that, the action is unbelievable and there is lots of it. Good to see Ti Lung and Fu Sheng with the Venoms mob. If you like loads of kung fu and don't care too much about the plot, this is the film for you.

Each of the constituent parts is extremely good. The problem that the parts don't fit together intelligibly brings my score down a bit - but the cast is great, and each part has many charms. Your score is justifiable.
this was like a bad edit job. nothing made any sense. I'd rather watch a good movie with 4 good fights then a bad one with 10.alright ones no matter who's in it!
You need to watch real kung fu movies, because the story and martial arts are important in Asian Cinema. Without a good story with the action your missing the point of a true fu film.
Return Of The 5 Deadly Venoms (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This is without doubt my favorite Venoms film. The fight choreography in this Chang Cheh classic is some of best I have ever seen. This is a must-have film. Just get it; you won't be disappointed.

Yes! Five stars is eminently appropriate. This is in my top three Venoms films - very high praise indeed.
Game Of Death (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure The film was really bad. Every time I saw Bruce Lee, I kept saying to myself that's from "Fist Of Fury" or that's from "Way Of The Dragon". The only part of the film worth watching is the last 15 minutes, but by then the damage is already done. Had Bruce Lee not passed away, I think this would have been his finest achievement.

The film Bruce Lee intended would have been a masterpiece - but it never existed. This is nothing but the chewing of his bones by jackals who never understood him. So much of "Bruce" here is stuntmen and stand-ins with no real resemblance to the man.
this film is bad. Don't get me wrong i love Bruce and i have this film in my collection. The vision that Bruce lee had for this film is way different than what was shown on the movie screen. Bruce lee would roll in his grave for all the butchering
I understand what you are saying-but give it a couple of stars just for Bruce who makes any film he is in better, especially Enter the Dragon and Game of Death
Chocolate [2008] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I've read a lot of mixed reviews about this film. Some say the plot is weak and others say the action is over the top and badly choreographed. Personally, I loved the film. I must admit the plot is weak to a certain extent, but the action definitely makes up for that. Jeeja Yanin's ability as a martial artist is incredible. She is without doubt in my opinion the best female action star I have seen in a long time. The last 25 minutes of the film is truly astonishing: the way she fights her way through 30 odd bad guys has to be seen to be believed. You can see as the credits roll there were a lot of injuries due to some crazy stunts, Jackie Chan style. I would say if, like me, you enjoyed "Ong-Bak" and "The Warrior King", then you should like this film. I just hope Jeeja Yanin goes on to make more films and not be a flash in the pan. What a waste of talent that would be.

The film is entertaining from start to finish. It isn't a retread of anything else, but something very good in itself.
4 and half stars thats crazy talk. The movie does deliver good action but other then that it's just very bad on storytelling. But give me a break and watch the whole movie again and then review.
the movie was alright, nothing really amazing- the movie could of showcase JeeJa Yanin talent in a much better fu flick. and it's not def. 4 and half stars
The Lady Hermit (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure If, like me, you're a big fan of Cheng Pei Pei, then you'll be in for a treat with this Shaw Brothers classic. I think it's certainly up there with all her other great movies--her acting and swordplay are amazing. I also think Shih Szu is quite handy with a sword, and let's not forget Lo Lieh--he's always great. I found the film very entertaining from start to finish and would highly recommend buying this great wuxia flick.

The Magnificent Butcher (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I've watched this film God knows how many times and I never get tired of the film. I think this is Sammo Hung's best film, and the fight choreography is some of the best I have ever seen. I like the comedy in this film too. Great entertainment from the great Yuen Wo Ping.

Among the very best of the genre - a very legitimate five stars.
Lady Snowblood: Blizzard From The Netherworld (product link) Swordplay/Sword(s) / Drama Meiko Kaji has made some great movies, like the "Female Prisoner 701 Scorpion" trilogy and "Blind Woman's Curse", but for me this is her best film. Meiko shines in this movie slaying the bad guys with her sword. This is a great bloody revenge movie that's sure to entertain. And yes, the song from "Kill Bill"... If you buy this one, be sure to get the sequel, "Love Song Of Vengeance" as well, that's a great film too.

I like Meiko Kaji about 5 stars worth in whatever she does, but this must be in her top two, along with the second Scorpion film. Her fury is demonic, and I root for her all the while.
The Sister Street Fighter Collection [4-Disc Set] (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts If you liked Sonny Chiba's "Street Fighter" trilogy, then you'll enjoy these films. I think the first "Sister Street Fighter" is the best, but don't get me wrong, the other films are still very entertaining. Etsuko Shiomo kicks a lot of ass in these action-packed, fun movies, and she's not bad with Bruce Lee's weapon of choice, the deadly nunchaku, either. Go on, buy it--at the HKFlix price it's a bargain.

A Tale Of Two Sisters (product link) Thriller / Horror Horror with a twist. If you're a fan of k-horror movies, I would highly recommend you buying this gem. Kim Jee-Woon made a masterpiece here. It is up there with the very best. Shitty-pants scary.
The Street Fighter Box Set [3-Disc Set] (product link) Action/Adventure / Martial Arts Bone breaking, ball ripping, eye popping action from Japan's greatest martial arts actor. This is Sonny Chiba at his very best. Highly recommended.

Invincible Pole Fighter (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure I would put this film in the top ten martial films of all time. I have seen a lot of Gordon Liu films and I think this is his best. Entertaining from start to finish.
