The first thing to be said of this 3-film collection is that it's a great value, as I've seen the individual discs priced at more than this boxed set! The movies themselves vary in their quality and satisfaction quotient.
Two of the films ("Jungle Holocaust" and "Eaten Alive") are prequels of sorts by cannibal genre masters Deodato and Lenzi (respectively), presaging their next (more famous/outrageous) efforts ("Cannibal Holocaust" and "Cannibal Ferox"). Both of these earlier flicks still pack a lot of punch and there are scenes of primitive tribesmen chopping off and devouring male genitals and female breasts before totally disemboweling and cooking and eating their prey.
The quality of the DVD transfers are very good and the films are presented in their uncut grandeur. There is some interesting cross-pollination between the Deodato and Lenzi flix--including some scenes showing up in both movies and the beneficial presence of gorgeous Burmese actress Me Me Lai (especially in "Jungle Holocaust"), who appears pretty much naked throughout the entire proceedings.
The third film in the set, "Massacre In Dinosaur Valley", is perhaps the weakest offering for shock value, but it does feature some attractive females in the cast and a fair amount of nudity to make up for it. Sadly there are no dinosaurs in evidence.
All in all a good value and an easy way to round out your cannibal collection. The Deodato and Lenzi discs also include some good background extras featuring commentary and interviews with the directors.
Deadgirl (product link) Horror / Thriller This film has some good transgressive elements to make you squirm but is sort of uneven in its approach and rationale. On the one hand there is a tired, overused, high school teen drama going on with a nerdy guy getting bullied by the school jocks; and on the other there is the plot with the living-dead girl in the abandoned hospital building that everyone starts having sex with.
I found it disappointing that there was never any explanation for the origin of the "deadgirl", but why should I be concerned about a logical premise in a movie that is based around the concept of zombie necrophilia? If it's supposed to be a satire of sorts, it misses the mark by being too trite and nasty. Still it's pretty creepy at times and the zombie sex is appropriately repulsive enough to make it worth a look.
Icons Of Science Fiction: Toho Collection [3-Disc Set] (product link) Science Fiction / Action/Adventure This trilogy of 60's Toho sci-fi flix is great to round out the collection, but they are definitely second string' efforts. On the plus side, the quality of the DVDs is excellent--the widescreen format is a pleasure to see and all the discs include both the original Japanese version of the films with subtitles and the dubbed US version. Production values are great, but these films just didn't deliver the thrills of the best of Toho's special fx opuses.
Yojimbo (product link) Drama / Action/Adventure A long-acknowledged masterwork of samurai cinema by Kurosawa, I'm amazed that it took me this long to finally watch it. From the first frame, the artfulness of Kurosawa's framing is evident and a pleasure to watch. It wasn't long before I noticed that the plot bore a striking resemblence to another classic I had just only recently watched: Sergio Lenone's "A Fistful of Dollars". Not much more needs to be said about this classic--the acting, characters, cinematography, and music are all first rate--a must for the collection!
This flick really showcases Sola Aoi and features lotsa nudity and simulated sex by both of the two lead actresses as they work their way through a somewhat convoluted plotline that deals with themes such as sexual harassment and revenge.
The harassment is interesting in that it deals with an apparent sub-genre in Japanese erotica: the phenomenon of guys groping girls on the crowded railway commuter trains. Sola's character was the frequent victim of such assaults and the camera spends a lot of time focusing on her panty-covered butt getting fingered by various characters while she gazes off into space, we must assume contemplating her reactions to the violations...which remain somewhat unresolved throughout the film despite the fact that much of the plot's intricacies revolve around it. The complex motivations for the various characters are handled in a fairly simplistic fashion and there are a couple of character reversals that are perplexing (none of it helped by a relatively clunky translation in the subtitles!).
In the final analysis it's, once again, mostly all about Sola's smokin' body--which is on display enough to make this film a keeper if you're a fan of her cute looks.
Aftermath / Genesis [DOUBLE FEATURE] [BANNED GRAPHIC COVER] (product link) Horror / Thriller A trio of film shorts dealing with different aspects of death in a fairly surreal fashion. The individual films vary in their quality and sophistication--the first offering being a student project while the director was at USC.
The central piece, "Aftermath", that deals with the indignities of the morgue as bodies are dissected and in one case an attractive female corpse in sexually violated by a psychotic forensic doctor, is the strongest in terms of gore and shock value. Personally I found the final segment, "Genesis", to be the most interesting and enigmatic.
As a whole this is a pretty effective showing and has good support extras which show a lot of the behind the scenes planning and thinking behind the shocking imagery.
Fudoh: The New Generation (product link) Action/Adventure / Crime Maybe not the best of Miike's flix but still pretty wild and crazy. It follows the vengeance quest of young Fudoh against those who were involved in the honor-killing of his older brother, aided by his high school posse. Lots of imaginative deaths and some cute girls--my favorite had to be the teen hermaphrodite stripper who kills with a blow-gun powered by her pussy--who thinks this stuff up?!!!
This is an enigmatic BDSM flick that is very pleasant to watch but not very hot in the sex department. Based on yet another screenplay by Japan's sadomeister, Oniroku Dan, the plot deals with the sexual humiliation and ultimate evolution of the principal female character within the context of a corporate business setting.
Without getting into too much detail, the action revolves around an attractive young woman who has risen through the ranks to become the private secretary to a large cosmetics firm's president and is engaged to marry his son (heir to the biz). On her way to the top the girl had a brief affair with one of the lower ranking guys in the sales dept. and he still has feelings for her. After making it with a ditzy prostitute she suggests that he risk all for love and they set up a kidnapping of the secretary, tie her up, and have sex with her--then use photos of the incident to coerce her into further sexual liaisons and humiliations through a series of plot and character twists through to the rather strange conclusion.
This film was visually very artfully conceived, and therein lies the problem, of sorts. The bondage sequences are almost like art tableaus, and while this makes the point that Japanese bondage IS sort of an artform, the scene's potential sexiness suffers. There is also somewhat goofy accordion music (reminded me of a Tinto Brass Italian score) that didn't help to set the mood. The female lead is very attractive (especially when tied up!), but her character's motivation is not well defined and her response to all the sexual abuse she is going through doesn't seem to phase her--as I said at the outset, it's enigmatic.
This IS one of the classiest pinku S&M flicks I've seen come out of Japan, but not the hottest.
I had a hard time deciding whether I felt this movie rated 5 stars or not.
Based on a story idea by Japan's master SM novelist, Oniroku Dan, it presents themes that are by now familiar to those who have watched the films based on his "Flower And Snake" scenarios, but with some interesting variations.
The plot deals with the dynamic between a husband and wife in crisis. The husband is facing ruin as his business is threatened by a hostile takeover and his loving and dutiful wife falls prey to the individuals who are behind the takeover when she attempts to help out by "talking" to them.
The BDSM elements that are at the heart of the film are handled very sensitively and artfully--perhaps SO artfully that they lose a little of the erotic potential that one might be looking for in this type of film (which is why I hesitated to go all the way to 5 stars on this one). On the plus side, though, the character development and production values are excellent and the lead actress is stunning.
What I most appreciated about the film was that it ultimately celebrated the strength of the female character(s)--the bondage elements became a metaphor for that strength rather than being demeaning to women and there is even a happy ending, of sorts. Through movies like this it becomes apparent that author Oniroku Dan is showing his admiration for the transforming power that women have even in the face of great adversity (AND that they look great tied up)! This one is so classy it could almost work as a date movie (with the right girl!). Highly recommended!
A strange frenetic film from southeast Asia (Cambodia?). The box cover states "erotic fantasy meets martial arts action", and that's pretty much the gist of it. Actually there's not really much "erotic fantasy" involved in the plotline, but there are a few sequences featuring naked girls, so I guess that's what is being referred to.
The main plotline revolves around a mythical scenario where a vicious moon monster is reborn periodically who can only be dispatched by a virginal warrior woman. The moon monster shows up and starts killing people and the police get involved, as do a college professor and his brother.
Ultimately this comes off kind of like "Miami Vice" meets "The Devil's Sword" (from Indonesia) as police work meshes with flying sorceresses and magic lightening bolt-emitting swords. There are a lot of character and plot intricacies to follow (which aren't made any easier by the subtitles that often disappear into the white background). Still, there are machine gun battles and spirited martial arts encounters every few minutes to keep the whole show moving through to its inevitable conclusion.
I bought this DVD at HKFLIX "blowout" prices and that's about what it's worth. Still, a fantastic title!
I've been a little harsh in my reviews of some of Sora Aoi's movies, stating that her cute looks and somewhat flat delivery in the acting department didn't seem to really fit some of the roles she has been cast in. "Tsumugi", however, seems tailor made for her and she really delivers in this role as a sexually precocious, quirky teenage girl who flip-flops between seducing one of her high school teachers and one of her nerdish classmates.
In this (typically) short (61 minutes) Pinku offering, Sora's schoolgirl cuteness really works and creates a nice counterpoint to her steamy sexual side that she unleashes on the hapless males in several very hot sex scenes. The action is softcore, as usual, but there is a little full nudity on display and all of the sex scenes in the movie are pretty steamy. The character Tsumugi likes to be tied up and "taken" on occasion, so there are a few lightweight B&D moments to be enjoyed. The character development is good and [Pink Eiga's] translated subtitles are (refreshingly!) clear.
I found this to be a real enjoyable little flick from Sora's early days (2004), showing why she had the potential to rise to AV superstardom.
This is a strange little flick that is fairly uneven and sorta' confusing in its presentation of a pretty basic plotline. The story deals with members of an architectural firm who are bidding on a big project when they get news that there is some last minute competition from another firm that is challenging their submission, and, apparently as part of the competition, the office principal's daughter has been kidnapped.
The plot jumps back and forth between scenes of the firm's boss and the sexual relationship he is having with his young secretary/assistant and the tribulations that his daughter is facing as she is chained up in some cellar full of pipes and tanks being menaced by a strange figure disguised in a sumo wrestler's suit and wearing a gas mask. The captive girl rapidly forms a weird bond with her captor, who ultimately deflowers her before revealing a shocking identity.
The strengths of this flick are mostly in the bondage and sex scenes. The two main female leads are quite attractive and they spend a fair amount of time naked performing animated simulated sex. The bondage isn't particularly creative, mostly handcuffs and chained-to-a-pipe stuff. The weakness of the film is in its rather confusing and sketchy character development, which isn't helped much by a fairly poor translation for the English subtitles [on the HK DVD by CN]. You can understand the basic premise, but a lot of the subtlety gets lost... I had to watch it twice to really get a grasp on who was who and what was going on.
In the final analysis: for B&D fans a few good kinky scenes, but nothing groundbreaking. Worth a look.
Strip Nude For Your Killer (product link) Horror / Erotica [This review refers to the US DVD by Blue Underground.] Blue Underground has released a fairly pristine version of this classic mid seventies Giallo offering, and the quality of the print is appreciated. The movie itself is fairly interesting and was (apparently) real groundbreaking stuff back in the day of its initial release.
The plot loosely unravels around a series of murders committed by a mysterious personage dressed in black Italian motorcycle gear who (in classic Giallo style) is not revealed until the last reel. In addition to its catchy name, this flick does deliver some very attractive naked females and a bit of suspense. The grisly "uncut" shocks include severed breasts and a castration, as well as a nice "extras" interview that adds additional appreciation to the feature.
Jess Franco turns his hand to the "60's secret agent" genre in this somewhat weak attempt to create a comic strip-style movie.
James Bond "Goldfinger" golden girl Shirley Eaton plays a ruler of a land of Amazon women with some stated aspirations to take over the society ruled by men that never really materializes. The plot jumps around a lot, following an agent who has purportedly stolen ten million dollars that everyone is trying to get a hold of.
The characters are confusing, particularly the women who are hard to identify as they are constantly donning different wigs, and there is little sexual chemistry or heat in any of the scenes--some nudity is on display and a lot of goofy 60's style clothing. Franco may have been aiming for another "Barbarella" or "Modesty Blaise", but his ode to the comic kitsch falls short.
Perhaps the most shocking element of the US DVD by Blue Underground was included in the EXTRAS section where an interview with Ms. Eaton shows just how much time has passed since she glittered in "Goldfinger".
Stash (product link) Horror / Thriller Sort of a modern "grindhouse roughie", the plot revolves around a couple of lowlifes who get caught by a local weed grower stealing some of his product. Instead of shooting them, he orders them to provide him with three girls on three consecutive days so that he can imprison the hapless young women in his back-woods make-shift dungeon, where he ravages them to his heart's content. One of the girls' parents go to extreme lengths to find their missing daughter, who was abducted by the bad guys, and the movie jumps back and forth between the scenes of the forces of law and order doing their thing and the big gross weed grower doing his.
All in all, pretty tame and lame. Aging scream queen Debbie Rochon brings a little class to the proceedings, but it's generally a fairly amateurish and wooden exercise, not really living up to the promise of the box art.
Howard The Duck (product link) Comedy / Action/Adventure An early adaptation of a Marvel Comics property that strangely missed its mark, despite George Lucas's stamp on it. The cynically wisecracking animatronic duck is hard to warm up to and the plot line seems to veer off course in the final act, although it does offer the opportunity for some great stop-motion creature effects (largely why I purchased the film), one of the last forays by Phil Tippet in the realm before CGI changed the face of movie creatures forever.
Sex And Zen (product link) Erotica / Comedy I found the character definition and plot line to be a little confusing in this one--not that there was a lot of plot to contend with! The theme of karmic consequences makes for some interesting plot twists that may be unusual to western viewers, and there is a fair dose of comedic and supernatural elements to keep the plot moving forward. The main feature, however, would have to be the many lovely Chinese maidens on display and the sumptuous production values. A classic of its genre and still highly recommended.
The City Of Lost Children (product link) Fantasy / Art A visually rich and dark film populated with bizarre characters. Ron Perlman fits right in with his unusual looks. The film definitely has a "French" flavor that occasionally gets a little goofy but offers some really imaginative sequences and outstanding production values.
This second offering in the "Captive Factory Girls" duo takes us back to the same factory and stock shots of drill bits and arc welders, but with a new group of captive girls. The plot line here is even simpler (if that's possible!) than the previous outing: apparently, "directionless" girls are plucked from a sex bar and are (again) indentured to the evil nameless factory to pay off their debts.
The theme of faithful/stupid women duped by their unscrupulous boyfriends is central. Once inside the factory, the lead female character (again) goes through a process of bonding with her fellow captives, largely through their shared experiences of brutality and rape at the hands of the group of male guards who oversee them as well as the big boss who zips around in a wheelchair. Ultimately the girls figure they've had enough and plan a breakout, leading to an action-packed finale.
Considering that the two "Captive Factory Girls" flix are not sequential, but presented as standalone storylines set in the same location, I would say that the first movie was (slightly) superior in terms of plot, character development, and the attractiveness of the female cast. All of the sex in both films is largely depicted as forced upon the girls, which could be a factor in the enjoyment of the films depending on whether rape scenarios are a turn-on or turn-off for the viewer. There is a protracted bondage/interrogation scene where the heroine is strung up, stripped, and questioned before being gang-banged by the entire crew of guards--all very softcore (of course) with no full frontal nudity anywhere to be found on either DVD.
All in all, "Captive Factory Girls 2: The Revolt" was an easy watch (only 74 mins.), but if I had to choose between the first and second installments, I'd recommend the first chapter for its superior character development and generally hotter girls and sex scenes.
The premise for this film appears to have been drawn from an urban legend about a mysterious factory without a name where one can just imagine all sorts of weird stuff going on inside. The nameless factory in this instance is stocked with (mostly) hot young girls who owe something to the mafia-like factory owners and must work off their debt by being enslaved there.
The flick focuses on one group of girls working in a machine shop environment and there are a LOT of shots of drill presses and grinding wheels to emphasize the point. The girls are kept in line by being brutalized and raped by their male overseers. The plot revolves around a girl (Natsumi) who puts herself into this horrible factory to try to find her investigative reporter boyfriend who, similarly, had previously infiltrated the factory to do an expose article, and then disappeared.
The movie actually has its strength in the character development of the relationships that form between the group of captive girls as they confront their situation, spurred on by Natsumi's fresh energy. The female actresses are all very attractive--my favorite was the female overseer, Kurosawa (not sure who played her because the cast credits are all in Japanese)--there are numerous sex scenes (all of a coercive nature), and several of the captive girls have killer bodies.
This movie doesn't aim very high, but it does move right along through its relatively short play time and delivers a decent storyline along with the usual dose of desired gratuitous sex and violence. It's definitely worth viewing if you like lotsa' scenes of cute girls getting abused and close-ups of machining processes!
Gappa: The Triphibian Monsters (product link) Science Fiction / Horror Okay, these Gappa are some pretty goofy looking monsters, but from the relative perspective of the Japanese rubber suit monster flix, this film has it all! The plot pacing, character development, art direction, and special effects were all excellent! And, to top it off, a "feel good" ending!
I don't know how I've missed Gappa in all my years of viewing and collecting, but it's a valued addition to the collection. My only critique would be that the quality of the DVD transfer was a little blurry (on the Dutch version).
"Dangerous Seductress" shows an apparent attempt by the Indonesian filmmakers to appeal to an American audience by hiring a couple of gorgeous blonds to play the lead sister roles and trying to pawn Jakarta off as Los Angeles in some scenes. Most of the action does take place in Indonesia, where the plot revolves around two sisters--one is a model there and the other is escaping from an abusive relationship in L.A.. While the abused sister is recovering (and her sibling is off on a bikini photo shoot in Bali), she finds a book on the occult and conjures up an evil female entity who inhabits her body and begins a vengeance streak against several innocent men who succumb to her (considerable) charms. Both of the blonde actresses in this film are very hot, managing to transcend the 70's look of the piece, and the opening sequence where the evil female presence is re-born from a skeleton is worth the price of the flick alone!
Lady Terminator (product link) Horror / Erotica "Lady Terminator" is an obvious homage to the Cameron/Schwarzenegger franchise, but with some typically unusual Indonesian twists, blending the cultural mythos of that country with more western sci-fi and horror elements. For example, rather than the terminator coming from the future, this female version originates from the mythical South Seas Queen--an underwater deity with an insatiable sexual appetite and a deadly sea snake hidden in her vagina! Looking to exact vengeance, she takes (sort of) human female form and rises from the water to wreak havoc on the land dwellers with a machine gun that never seems to run out of ammo and an enthusiasm for slaughter that makes Arnie's cyber-killer pale in comparison. For example, after dispatching one hapless male victim with about 80 rounds, she kicks him in the crotch for good measure. A wild bullet-riddled ride all the way!
PinkEiga has managed to unearth another truly bizarre bit of Japanese goofiness with this film. This flick definitely has a manga feel to it, as both the characters and situations are decidedly over the top. The lead character in the flick was either born with or developed (it's not really made clear--as if it matters!) a "snapping pussy" that her father hopes she will utilize to wreak vengeance on his (former) cheating wife and her lover who humiliated him about the size of his male member. He sends his daughter (who has her lethal nether regions locked away in a hi-tech chastity belt!) to an exclusive girls' school run by his old arch rival so that she can exact revenge for his humiliation.
Things of course get interesting as the daughter works her way into the school scene, which turns out to be a training ground to coerce the students into a high level prostitution ring. There is a lot of sex and nudity in this film and some pretty good B&D scenes. Sometimes the editing made the characters and sequencing a little hard to follow, but, as one comes to accept in the Asian cinema, who cares?
A very imaginative, cartoonish offering, albeit short at barely 60 minutes, recommended for good mindless viewing.
Great value 2-disc set of wild Indonesian cinema features:

Both DVDs also feature excellent extra materials on the specific films and the Indonesian cult cinema in general. Highly recommended if you enjoy off-the-wall stuff.
Saint Francis (product link) Erotica / Horror Lord preserve us from filmmakers who attempt to infuse "meaning" and "artfulness" into movies that are obviously intended to be vehicles for hot women of the moment. "Saint Francis", sadly, strives for just such high ground and falls pretty flat.
The headliner, fetish diva Dita Von Teese, projects little erotic heat in her role--she's seen mostly riding around in the back of a limo talking on a cell phone. The film is sprinkled with other X-rated stars, but their contributions are drowned out by all the artsy and confusing plot aspects to do with religious hypocrisy, drug addiction, and altered realities.
Thought-provoking it might be, but hot it's not! Ms. Von Teese should stick with still photos.
Lady Snowblood: Blizzard From The Netherworld (product link) Swordplay/Sword(s) / Drama A classic! It's a good thing that Tarantino so freely admits his influence from these type of female vengeance flix on his "Kill Bill" duo, because after watching "Lady Snowblood" and "Sex & Fury", one might think there could almost be a case for plagiarism!
"Lady Snowblood" does not have the erotic elements of some of the Japanese female vendetta movies, but the lack of skin does not slow the pace and the photography and action are top rate. Highly recommended!
Torso [1973] (product link) Horror / Thriller I read several of the reviews by other people who had purchased this movie so I went in knowing what to expect from this typical '70's style Italian giallo slasher whodunit. As such, it delivered exactly as promised: lots of mysterious murders of women who, before, during, or after getting killed, lose their tops.
The female cast are all very attractive and the killer is cunningly concealed until the last reel, so it's all good fun. The movie does suffer a bit from being dated by today's faster-paced ultra-violent offerings, but as a period piece it really delivers and is a great addition to the collection.
The "Hotaru Swindler" series is obviously a vehicle for the ascendant AV actress Sola Aoi to showcase her "talents". I became enamored of Miss Aoi largely thru her excellent showing in the film "Man, Woman, and the Wall", where she plays a simple ordinary girl next door role to perfection.
Having sampled a couple more of her films, it is now looking like her "acting" abilities may have peaked with the "Wall" film. Sola IS very attractive, but it's beginning to appear that her "talent" lies largely in her abundant chest. Ironically, her persona comes off rather "flat" and the screen doesn't exactly sizzle with her personality, until she sheds her clothes (which fortunately she does quite often!). But even then there's not a lot of excitement as she works her way through the obligatory shower scene and a lot of simulated sex.
All is not lost though. This series also stars (as Hotaru's sidekick, Aoyie) the much more animated actress Minami Aoyama, billed in the trailers as the "attractive Lolita woman". She may be the physical antithesis of Sola's pulchritude, but she's HOT! This flick also suffers a bit from its direct-to-video film technique, but it is worth watching, largely for some decent skin action.
Korean Traditional Nude 2 (product link) Erotica This DVD is very classy in its depiction of the beauty of the Asian female form, focusing primarily on one girl who is fairly attractive but pretty reserved. There are a lot of clothed shots of the girl in traditional kimono syle dress and cuts between still imagery and moving pictures and maybe a few too many arty vignettes of rushing water and leaves--pretty tame but pretty cheap so not a bad value.
It's sorta' ironic that the best thing about these "grindhouse" compilations is also their weakest point: I'm referring to their "period ambiance" with all the blurry images, retched and scratched film stock and "teasing" camerawork. Good old 42nd Street Pete has unearthed some very nice "loops" in this collection--pretty much without exception the girls featured in the vignettes are all very attractive and "put together" (to use Pete's term), BUT the (original!) film quality is so poor on many of the segments that it's hard to really appreciate (or see) the "details" of what's going on.
Despite the fact that I know that this is "part of the fun" of watching these grainy precursors to our modern HD porn fare, a little of this goes a long way (as they say) and it can get a bit tedious watching them en masse. Still, from an archival point of view, the collection is excellent and it's always nice to be reminded that, throughout the decades, there always seem to be a bunch of really hot "liberated" women out there that aren't afraid to get naked and do goofy stuff in front of a camera. And props to 42P for having the foresight to collect such a pile of erotic oddities and make them available again.
Highly recommended, but with keeping the foregoing caveats in mind!
I was hovering between giving this film a 4 or 5 star rating so ended up with a 4 1/2.
This movie seems the quintessential Pink flick, where the director is given free license to explore strange new territories as long as there is a sex scene thrown in periodically--certainly the plot line of this film could not get much stranger (well okay, maybe it could!), but it does offer a unique mix of sensitivity and sexuality that is unusual in the genre.
In the director's notes that are included in the extras [on the US DVD by Pink Eiga], the director states that he was basically looking for a vehicle for the film's (excellent) main male actor who plays the (sometimes) senile father-in-law who mistakes his (deceased) son's wife for his beloved (also deceased) cow Bessie. The plot has some pretty loose threads, but the concept holds up and culminates in a satisfying manner and it is hard to deny the strange eroticism of the imagery of the beautiful naked young woman kneeling along with the cows in the barn, contentedly mooing away while she is milked--gotta love the Japanese mind!
Chocolate [2008] (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure This was a fast paced and well directed martial arts film with an imaginative slant on the lead female character, but I've watched it twice now and darn if I can actually remember the "plot", which leads me to conclude that (as with so many "fast paced martial arts" flix) they are more style than substance. Still very watchable and worth having in the collection.
This movie was pretty intriguing! Its strong point is definitely the lovely Christina Lindberg who is featured sans clothes enough to keep the whole thing rolling. The "plot" is a little confusing as there are scenes throughout the film that appear to be fantasy sequences from the heroine's libidinous imagination intermixed with similar scenes that may be flashbacks to actual events. This ambiguity could be interpreted as a preconceived artfulness that would definitely raise the level of the picture's status a notch or two, but when one watches the (very interesting) background featurette that is included in the extras, the director comes off as fairly naive about the whole thing.
Apparently this film was a big, groundbreaking (sexually speaking) hit back in the '70's when it was first released--hard to imagine now, but it does hold up well regardless--aided by a pile of gorgeous undraped Scandinavian girls, some decent acting by the (evil) male lead, and Ms. Linberg's smokin' body. An amusing extra included are a couple of pop songs recorded by Christina (doubtless attempting to cash in on her notoriety from the movie)--they give new meaning to the phrase "don't quit your day job"!
This two-movie set features a couple of sexy vampire flicks that are worth watching.
The first movie is featured as "Cemetery Girls" on the box cover but is titled "Dracula's Great Love" on the actual DVD. It is a period piece and features four beautiful women who are way-laid while on a trip through the Carpathian Mountains and end up taking shelter in an "abandoned" sanitarium inhabited by a (seemingly) mild mannered Dr. Wendall, who is actually Dracula. In short order three of the girls are turned into "vampire brides", but the fourth (apparently virginal) becomes the focus of Dracula's affections as she appears to fulfill a prophecy that Dracula will have a bride who falls in love with him of her own free will and leads to his renewed empowerment and rebirth.
This movie proved to be very enjoyable and full of surprises--the appearance of the female vampire accomplices was reminiscent of the similar trio in the more recent "Van Helsing" flick, and Paul Naschy makes an excellent prince of darkness. The attractiveness of the female leads definitely helped to make this film watchable, but it had many redeemable elements and is a definite keeper!
The second flick, "Vampire Hookers", follows a more tongue-in-cheek approach and features an aged John Carradine as the poetry-spouting male vampire with a trio of beautiful brides who lure some U.S. Navy sailors on shore leave into their subterranean lair in a cemetery.
This film was apparently shot in Mexico, and its most outstanding feature (again) is largely the female vampire cuties who show some skin during a sequence where they all "have their way" with one of the kidnapped sailors. Carradine is surprisingly good in this film and elevates the goofy proceedings by virtue of his presence. And the end credits Vampire Hooker "theme song" is pretty amusing with its tag line of "they suck more than blood". All in all a good fun and value!
This is apparently Sora Aoi's first movie, and I ordered the movie because I enjoyed her performance (and looks!) in the later flick, "Man, Woman, And The Wall". Having now watched them both, I'd have to say that she does a lot better job in the latter film. Her "performance" in "Erotic Ghost: Siren" is minimal, although her character is pivotal--she plays a malevolent sea-spirit who "feeds" on men's greed, killing them during sexual encounters that she initiates.
The plot revolves around a group of guys who just pulled off a big heist and are lying low for a few days until they can divide up the loot and flee the country to pursue their individual dreams with their newly acquired wealth. They stop at a roadside pull-off to pick up some pre-arranged food and supplies for their hide-out and discover a girl (Aoi) who they assume was sent to deliver the goods. They pull her into their van, tie her up, and plan on holding her captive and taking advantage of her sexually, but over the succeeding days their number starts to mysteriously die and they begin to turn on one another in suspicion until they come to realize that they are the prey of the succubus-like sea ogre.
It's all fairly intriguing and Sora gets naked a lot, but I found her to be a little "too cute" to be convincing as the evil entity that she's supposed to be. Having seen her later work ("..The Wall") first, one can appreciate how she has matured in her craft and has gotten "hotter" with a little age and experience. All in all though, this was an enjoyable enough flick and worth a look.

This DVD offers some great Japanese shibari rope work, BUT it is sadly flawed by a couple of elements that detract from its enjoyment.
Firstly there is no English subtitle available. This fact WAS made clear in the promo for the disc, so I knew it going in, but it is unfortunate because it would be really interesting to hear what the rope masters and their female bondage subjects are saying about the subject.
The other more glaring fault (that is not mentioned anywhere) is that the film has a lot of the lame censorship blackouts of the female pubic regions. This is not a subtle digital pixelation as on some sex flix but is a giant black dot that often obscures practicaly the entire figure of the model. Really too bad, because there are some very intense bondage sessions that could have been super hot but end up just being annoying.
Not a total write-off as there are some great B&D scenes with beautiful women but ultimately sorta' disappointing.
This was a quirky little S&M-themed flick that left me feeling rather bemused at its ending.
As the description on the box says, the plot revolves around an older wealthy S&M fan who wants to make his own private bondage movie based on an S&M story written by an author of his acquaintence, and who also acts as a narrator of the plot. An AV film director is hired, as well as two actors who are not initially told the true nature of the film they are supposed to appear in. The female lead is actually just a poor college student strapped for money who gets sucked in and is ultimately "forced" to participate in the film by being stripped naked and locked in a large cell in the basement of the producer's home where the filming is supposed to take place.
The film jumps around a bit between scenes from the "source" S&M story, as told by the author, and scenes of the filming of the novel with the "kidnapped" actors. The cast of the films is attractive enough and there are some decent kinky scenes, but he movie is hampered a bit by lack of character development, poorly translated subtitles [on the Hong Kong DVD by Unicorn], and a rather abrupt ending to it all--just as things were getting interesting! All in all a watchable enough flick but not the best of its genre.
This somewhat dated Peter Sellers vehicle would make a good two-pack paired with Michael Moore's "Sicko", as both films take aim at the avaricious tendencies of the medical system.
In "Where Does It Hurt?", Sellers plays the chief administrator of a large hospital complex who keeps his bottom line properous by luring patients into the medical system with unnecessary tests and procedures--generally milking their health insurance programs. The plot thickens as a recently unemployed man with no insurance gets sucked into the scheme and, after an un-needed surgery, blows the whistle on the operation, and Sellers' character must use all his sleazy skills to save himself and the hospital staff from the powers that be.
The writing is a little heavy handed, but the movie does offer a few good laughs--Sellers' comic genius definitely saves the day as he manages to make the thoroughly despicable character he plays amusing. There are some attractive females in the movie but no nudity.
Overall it's decent enough to watch as one of Sellers' more obscure U.S.-made films, but is probably a better candidate for a rental than a purchase.
