Blind Beast Vs. Killer Dwarf (product link) Horror / Thriller The synopsis seemed to give an interesting story, but what the hell went wrong with the directing? The movie is a bore done in a melodrama fashion. Even the well known stars put on an amateurish performance.
Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl (product link) Drama / Historical Here is a movie that gives a cheerful life of a young girl who signs herself up to be re-educated for Mao's great China. It's a grand life up in the mountains of Tibet and being the sole student of a horse herder whom she can never be intimate with. But her loneliness is abated by the many visitors who offers false promises for the favor of her youthful sex. Well, a couple of times she did it for an apple. Anyway, happiness gives way to tragedy in the end.
Hey, just kidding. This is a great movie. Buy it before it becomes unavailable.
Killer Pussy (product link) Erotica / Horror Here is a movie that dares to show the unthinkable, well almost. A big freaking fish that goes into a girl's you know what. The creature multiplies and eventually infects all the girls in the movie, ahem, four of them. The guys get killed when their private parts are bitten off when they agitate these things during sex. Sounds nasty eh? Buy it.
Duelist (product link) Action/Adventure / Thriller I bought this movie because I liked Ha Ji-won in Ditto and Sex is Zero. But this movie just doesn't fit her into the character she plays. Maybe it was the jerky style of story telling or the many redundant scenes thrown in. Fine actors and sets were put to waste here.
Swing Girls (product link) Comedy / Action/Adventure This movie reminds me of when I was in band class in middle school. Learning to play a brass instrument wasn't easy. Takes a lot of practice. The girls in this movie seem to learn it too quickly. But the fast pace of this story doesn't let you down. The characters are believable and sort of funny. The finale was surprisingly good.
Ogenki Clinic [Live Action] (product link) Erotica / Comedy Hey, who watches this kind of stuff? Oops. I was just curious, heh heh.
This movie is the live action version of an anime series, which explains the ridiculous antics of the characters. The main plot involves a guy who comes too quickly. Ogenki Clinic's doctor and nurse help in a big way to achieve his goal of seducing the madame of a sex club. Lots of cute girls here.
Hachi-Ko (product link) Drama This movie isn't anything like a Disney film about a dog and its owner. Being a true story set in a dismal period in 1920s Japan, the hardship is more on the dog than the owner. The lesson here is not to take in a dog if you cannot care for it, simple.
Sex And Fury (product link) Action/Adventure / Crime Probably the best "Pink" movie I've seen from Japan. Reiko Ike somehow brings maturity to the silly movies in this genre. The bath house sword fight scene where she's completely naked and cutting down the yakuza hoods is a must see.
Naughty Guide To Tokyo Nightlife (product link) Comedy / Erotica This movie is supposed to give a glimpse of what goes on in some sex clubs in Tokyo. If they are true, guys can buy some interesting time with cute girls. Done in a comedy sort of way, with several girls telling each other their worst or best moments at the job.
Warm Water Under The Red Bridge (product link) Comedy / Drama Misa Shimizu gives an interesting performance as enigmatic woman who releases bodily fluids at inopportune times. Yakusho Koji happens to come to her aid while looking for the hidden treasure his friend hid many years ago in her house. This is a fun movie to watch. Better get this before it sells out.

When The Last Sword Is Drawn [Korean LE 2-Disc Set + Sharpener] (product link) Drama / Swordplay/Sword(s) The story of the Shinsengumi has been the subject of many movies, TV series, comics, etc. I liked this version, which is from the perspective of a lesser known member (to me). The story is told by Saito who recalls fellow member Yoshimura and how the two became involved in the turbulent period of 1860s Japan where factional wars were about to split the country.
Laundry (product link) Romance / Drama I remember this movie being an entry in our local film festival. I thought it would be an interesting movie from the synopsis but was greatly disappointed. I kept falling asleep watching this till I finally ejected it and put it away, way in the back of my DVD cabinet.
Yamato (product link) War / Drama The cast and characters they played were great. The carnage shown in the battle scenes were relatively tame considering what CGI could have done. The effects of shrapnel and 50 caliber bullets from the US planes described a horrific scene by real survivors. But this movie was meant for the general public and not gore fans.
Farewell, Kuro (product link) Drama How can you not like this movie? There is a gentle little mixed breed dog that affects the lives of students and faculty at a high school.
Flower And Snake 2 [2005] (product link) Thriller / Erotica I cannot imagine who else could have played the role of Shizuko. Aya Sugimoto is great here as she was in "Flower And Snake". This one is not a sequel, but a different story.
Sex And Zen 3 (product link) Erotica This movie does have a fairly solid storyline for a cat-3 rating. Visuals and acting are very well done. The talents of the girls aren't wasted here, yep, nice nude scenes too.
Basara: The Princess Goh (product link) Drama Others say that you got to like Rikyu to understand this movie. I haven't seen that movie, but if it is anything like this one, zzzzzz.... It's like watching a Noh play except no one is wearing a mask. The only bright spots are the scenes with Rie Miyazawa.
A Chinese Torture Chamber Story (product link) Horror / Erotica Buy this one! Great story and good acting. The Chinese certainly did have some kinky and decadent methods of torture. Man, that wooden horse thing must hurt a lot.
All Night Long [1992] (product link) Horror / Thriller Of the three movies in this series, this one is the weakest in plot and gore. This one did not delve into the mind and deeds of a psychopath like in the other two successors.

The controversy of this movie still continues. The movie is totally uninhibited in depicting sexual depravity.
Flower And Snake [2003] (product link) Thriller / Erotica This movie is quite ambitious in depicting S&M bondage fantasy in the extreme. Even though it is not X-rated, the implied scenes goes beyond what even hardcore movies show. The cast and acting are terrific!
Always: Sunset On Third Street (product link) Drama This movie seems to have lumped a lot of nostalgia of Japanese family movies from the pre-70's era into one. I liked it, despite some naysayers who thought otherwise elsewhere.
Linda Linda Linda (product link) Comedy / Drama Never heard of the Blue Hearts 'til I saw this movie. Seems that the girls could have played music from any other band and still looked okay. Not a high drama movie, but the girls can play rock/punk fairly well and I wished they had played more.
Angel Guts: The Nikkatsu Series [5-Disc Set] (product link) Erotica / Horror Of the 5 movies in this set, NAMI seems to be the best. The woman reporter who is obsessed with rape stories becomes delusional and creates her own rape scenario which includes everyone at her office. Directed by Takashi Ishii, it is sure to grab your attention.
The other Nikkatsu selections are mildly interesting and gives a general idea of adult fare during the 1970's.
Red Angel (product link) Drama / War Being a war movie buff, I liked this movie. It honestly portrays what a field hospital becomes after a major battle--too many casualties with too few doctors. The directing and dialog are flawless as well as all the details in props and uniforms.

Poppoya: Railroad Man (product link) Romance / Drama This movie is quite a simple story about a railroad guy devoted to his job. It's Takakura Ken here, as an aged poppoya. As the town and his job dies, so does he.

Shonen Jidai (product link) Drama / War A superbly well-directed movie about a young boy and his fellow schoolmates. There is no magic or high action drama here, just a tale of how a child has to cope with gaining friends and then betrayal of a buddy. The wartime period and the rural setting helps to create a wonderful story.
The Host (product link) Horror / Thriller I would have enjoyed this movie much more if only the story did not have the obvious political attack on the U.S. Some scenes also didn't make much sense, like the use of agent orange on the creature.
Yo Yo Girl Cop (product link) Action/Adventure / Crime Not a comedy. Better than the earlier "Sukeban Deka" live action movie. Riki Takeuchi plays a cop here instead of his usual yakuza character, and I thought he did a good job. The new Sukeban girl is hinted to be the daughter of the original one. The whole plot occurs in a three-day period, so she doesn't have much time to get good at the yo-yo. Some may not like the editing, but I thought it was good.
Tattooed Flower Vase (product link) Erotica / Drama Made during the prolific period for pink movies, director Konuma gives us this nonviolent softcore flix. The mother and daughter characters gives us a mildly perverse story of love with the same man. The long tattooing scene is a great turn on, where you almost feel her pain.
Fighter In The Wind (product link) Martial Arts / Action/Adventure A fascinating movie about the formative years of Choi Baedal who later took on the name Mas Oyama. I'm glad to have seen this version first. Now I'm wondering if Sonny Chiba's version is any good.
